    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Clear Springs Campground on Wright Patman Lake accommodates pets at all campsites with water and electric hookups directly along the lakeshore or full hookups in wooded areas. Atlanta State Park Campground, Texarkana KOA, and Beavers Bend State Park maintain similar pet-friendly policies across their tent sites, RV spots, and cabin rentals. Leashed pets must be supervised at all times in these parks, with designated pet waste stations located throughout camping areas. Shady Pines RV Park offers spacious sites with enough room between neighbors for pets to exercise while still respecting boundaries. Reviewers consistently note the frequent wildlife sightings at these campgrounds, with deer regularly visiting campsites at dawn and dusk, requiring campers to keep dogs properly secured.

Rocky Point and Malden Lake campgrounds provide water access points where dogs can cool off during warmer months, though swimming areas designated for humans prohibit pets. The pine forest settings of these campgrounds offer shaded walking paths ideal for dog exercise during hot Texas summers when morning and evening walks are recommended. Forest Lake RV Park features a fishing pond where leashed pets can accompany their owners, though campers should bring ant repellent as multiple reviews mention ant problems at various campgrounds in this region. The Clear Springs area experiences minimal road noise, creating a peaceful environment for pets sensitive to loud sounds. Texarkana's veterinary services remain approximately 15-20 minutes from most campgrounds, with basic pet supplies available at camp stores or nearby markets.

      Ramblin Fever RV Park

      Close to Restaurants and Shopping

I stayed for 4 nights from a Thursday through Monday. The owner is very nice and helped me with choosing a drive thru site. It is well maintained. Mix of long term and short stay resident s. It is near a busy arterial highway so it's not especially quiet. The hookups worked great. I was two spots from the very front of the park. I used Passport America pass for my first 3 nights. I felt safe. It is very pet friendly. Keep dogs on leash and clean up after them. I have 3 black labs. No fenced dog park yet, so I drove them to the city park with tennis courts every morning to run free. I will most likely stay here again. I mostly boondock in the forests, but when I need a place to resupply and take care of business needs, this place is very nice.

      Mount Pleasant KOA

      Clean and friendly staff

We only stayed one night at a pull-thru site but the campground was clean and we really appreciated the nice fully grassed dog park for our pups to run around.

Texarkana RV Park & Event Center

      Not impressed

Made reservations for a back in site. Upon check in, nobody was in the office. Called the number on the door and was directed to park in the pull-through immediately at the entrance. Gate is broken and doesn’t close, nobody at the check in, RIGHT off the highway. Didn’t feel safe. Very loud. Playground area was very old and not maintained. “Dog park” was a 6ft x 6ft chain link square. Lots of permanent lots that are kind of gross. There is a new Love’s hookup & Sunrise RV parks nearby— will be using those in the future! Will not be back.

      Sunrise RV Park

      Great spot

Small stone roads that were clean and nice. Sites are very close together, but well maintained. Full hookups and pull through sites. Dog park and bath houses. Only complaint was the road noise was very close and when a semi tire blew it was extremely loud. All utilities are nice and neat on concrete slabs.

      Texarkana KOA

      Nasty

Te office is nasty dirty has a moldy smell. The bathhouse has mold on shower curtains no soap to wash hands problem flushing toilet.  There was wires zip tied to lady's side . No security after hours and no way to get help after lady leaves at 5. The dog park had poop everywhere and other campers had dogs running off chain. No lights at night was very scary the back of park was awful.  Grass and weeds growing up needs a major clean up and maintenance!!! The playground is near drains that child could fall and very outdated and ran down. Wifi was very poor to say less

Great location & customer service !

We called and let the office know we were 30 minutes away and the park office was closing in 5 minutes. Shannon said she would wait for us! She was so helpful and even offered to help us hook up as we arrived just as it was getting dark. She also let us know that she was on call and said to let her know if we had ant issues. Bathrooms were spacious and clean. Easy on off interstate and food/gas nearby. Small dog park but nice to let pups off leash for a bit. With fan on we didn’t hear the traffic from road. Perfect spot for overnight stay for 2 adults &our pups.

      Kelly Creek Park

      Beautiful and Quiet, but...

1/19/23- 1/26/23: We stayed one week and it was a quiet and enjoyable campground at a reasonable price, but it still has some misgivings.

Good Points: The park was mostly empty and very quiet. The views of the lake are particularly nice. The sites are grass(good for dryer weather) and spread reasonably apart for privacy. 30A electric, fresh water, picnic tables, Verizon 4G: 4-bars with 4.8Mbps(down) and 3Mbps(up) can be found here.

      Other Points:

      * Rainy days completely saturates the grass with large puddles in the uneven areas; while walking to the office I discovered that the road had unavoidable puddles too.

      * 40 of the 75 sites have sewer; site#36 does not. Those with sewer were uncapped PVC pipes stubbed out of the ground.

      * Pricing: On Campendium, the facility is listed as Army Corps Of Engineers(COE) with a daily rate of$20. Naturally, with a Senior Lifetime Pass I expected to get a spot for$10/night. No so. The owner Leon Jennings(903-585-5453) said that it is a privately run(and leased) campground and the rate is$20(also posted in the office). After I said that I’d move on to a COE site he offered a spot for$13/night matching what the Clear Springs Park campground(COE) nearby would charge me. Rates on Campendium, the Wright Patman Lake website, and the RoverPass list at$20,$13, and$17 respectively. My interpretation is that the real rates are $17 (30A) and $20 (50A). I didn't see a distinction between sewer or no sewer sites.

      * Odor: There can be a sewer-like odor that I'm told is coming from a paper mill in New Boston.

      * Un-level sites: The sites are rolling grass hills; it is possible to park in a direction that is even (L/R) but may take some finesse.

      * The dump station is a PVC pipe protruding diagonally from the grassy ground across from the office and there is no water spigot for cleanup. I pulled the diagonal pipe out and inserted the dump hose directly into the drain below grass level. After dumping, be sure to use your gray-water to flush your dump hose.

Summary: The owner and staff are very nice and accommodating. However,$13 at the Clear Springs Park campground would have provided level sites with good drainage, a proper dump station, and perhaps less odor from the paper mill.

      Piney Point

      Clean campground

Clean campground with decent sized sites. Only a handful are 50 amp, which we were fortunate to get. The park isn’t very large (about 50 sites). Exterior sites have more space between them than interior sites. Lots of people pulling their boats up to the shoreline and docking there. Lots of shade. Nice little campground, but because of the size, don’t expect to be “away from it all.” Nice playground for those with kids. Rocky Point campground (also COE) is just around the corner. Only cons (not the park, but camping etiquette): I have noticed a lot of folks not adhering to the “pets on leash” rule, and people also don’t seem to mind walking through others’ campsites. Beautiful trees, water is nice, and the campground is close to town if you need to run out for supplies. Will definitely camp here again.

    Guide to New Boston

Camping in the New Boston area of Texas offers options within the Piney Woods region, where elevation ranges between 300-500 feet above sea level. Pine forests dominate the landscape with numerous lakes and waterways providing recreational opportunities. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly reaching 90°F from June through September, making early morning and evening activities preferable during summer months.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Rocky Point Campground offers excellent lake access for anglers. "We had a great 3 night stay here in c4. Close to the water and had good views. Lake still flooded so boat ramp and beach were closed. Put boat in at piney woods up the road," notes camper Natalie S.

Water recreation: Water activities are popular in warm months at Atlanta State Park Campground. "Great spot to get away with only 2ish hours of driving from Dallas. The park is meticulously maintained with several hiking trails, minimally busy on the lake. Great for sup/kayaking!!" shares Jennifer C.

Trail exploration: Multiple hiking trails provide exercise opportunities through pine forests. "Trails are beautiful and if you piece them together can be challenging. This park is very well maintained. I saw a few trail signs that were brand new and another trail is closed for maintenance," reports Amie M. about Atlanta State Park Campground.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Shady Pines RV Park offers roomier camping spots than many alternatives. "Friendly service at check-in. A couple of sites were available for us to chose from. We choose A4 backing up to the catch and release pond. We caught many brim in the pond. Level site. Metal picnic table. FHU. Plenty of space between our neighbors. I had enough room to do yoga," writes Jody J.

Wildlife viewing: The abundance of deer is frequently mentioned by campers. "COE park on Wright Patman Lake. Numerous sites with full hookups, many with electricity & water. The staff here are super friendly & helpful. Deer are oftentimes seen in the park," notes Louann C. from Clear Spring.

Lake views: Several campgrounds offer sites directly overlooking water. "We were in site B5 (one of 15 sites out of 124 that have FHU), for 12 days in September and October 2020. This site was not very level but we had great views of the lake out the front and side of our MH," shares Jan S. about Rocky Point Campground.

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Online booking is essential at some parks. "Nice place for a weekend getaway. The smell that was mentioned is a thing, but we only noticed it at night. Must be the lake. Remember to book in advance online! They won't let you in without an online reservation and cell coverage is minimal," warns kcki M. at Clear Spring.

Seasonal challenges: Summer heat affects camping comfort significantly. "Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good. 70 yr olds in 17' trailer: Overall Rating: 3.5. Usage during visit: moderate. Site Privacy: 2. None and some sites are close," reports Roger W. about campsite spacing at Clear Spring.

Ant problems: Multiple campgrounds report ant issues during warmer months. "Long and short term sites! We love nearby and plan to take our camper just for fun one night! The have an event center also for groups!" notes Kim B. at Forest Lake RV Park, while another camper mentioned: "Good-beautiful grounds with a fishing pond. Large, flat spots. Bad-Very loud and very close train nearby. Ants everywhere."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds offer play areas for children. "We LOVED our site and all the amenities. We had a spacious site in the D loop, camp was clean, and beach was fun. Highly recommend! Big playground, well laid out sites," recommends Carrie I. about Rocky Point Campground.

Budget-friendly options: State parks typically offer lower rates. "The cheapest Texas State Park for electric or electric/water campsites at only 14/night! Spaces are spread out and loads and loads of pull through sites if that's your thing," shares Amie M. about Atlanta State Park.

Pet-friendly accommodations: Beavers Bend State Park Campground welcomes families with pets. "Buckeye campground is a newly renovated loop. The sites on the water are absolutely beautiful! Easy set up. Plenty of room for our 5th wheel and truck. Level concrete site," reports Bonnie B., while other reviewers note the abundant wildlife and pet-friendly policies.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Choose exterior sites for more privacy. "Clean campground with decent sized sites. Only a handful are 50 amp, which we were fortunate to get. Exterior sites have more space between them than interior sites," advises Gari-Ann L. about Piney Point.

Hookup variations: Different campgrounds offer varying hookup configurations. "Your choice, water and electric by the water or full hookups in the woods," explains John R. about Clear Spring, highlighting how location preference affects available utilities.

Leveling considerations: Be prepared for uneven sites in some areas. "The sites are well spaced apart and angled, providing nice privacy. This is our second time visiting this CG because we enjoyed it last year. It's a fairly quiet campground – even the weekend partiers quieted down around 10ish," notes Jan S. about Rocky Point Campground.
