The Ozark National Forest and Ouachita National Forest provide several primitive tent camping options near Paris, Arkansas. Tent campsites in the area range from free dispersed sites at Buzzards Rock in the Mt. Magazine Wildlife Management Area to Fourche Mountain Campground, which offers five primitive sites with picnic tables and fire rings. Jack Creek Recreation Area, located near Booneville, offers tent camping in a scenic setting with access to a swimming hole during warmer months.

Tent sites throughout the region typically feature dirt or gravel surfaces with minimal improvements. Most primitive tent campgrounds have fire rings and picnic tables, but lack drinking water, showers, or electric hookups. Vault toilets are available at established sites like Fourche Mountain and Haw Creek Falls, but dispersed camping areas have no facilities. Campers should pack in all water and supplies, as services are limited in this rural area. Flash flooding can occur near creeks after heavy rains, particularly at sites like Haw Creek Falls and Bayou Bluff, requiring tent campers to monitor weather conditions.

The tent camping in this region offers excellent access to hiking trails, creek swimming, and forest exploration. Sites at Haw Creek Falls Camping provide tent campers with proximity to waterfalls and swimming holes, making them popular during summer months. Bayou Bluff Point of Interest features unique stone structures where tent campers can set up somewhat protected from the elements. The area's forests provide ample shade for most tent sites, though summer temperatures can still be challenging. A visitor commented about Fourche Mountain: "Small 5-site primitive campground with clean vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings. Sites are small with reasonable separation, but no privacy. Good for an overnight stay when exploring the national forest."

      Springhill

      Beautiful Park!

We stayed in the a loop, a 11. Honestly, the pads look brand new, level, convenient to power and water hook up. The table is on a separate gravel pad all nice and clean. We loved watching the birds over the water, took a nice walk and watched our neighbor fish! It was very quiet at night and peaceful. A few people mentioned planes flying over and around 4 o’clock on arrival day we did hear quite a few planes, but that was it. The bath houses were very nice and clean and efficient. A large room with shower, sink and toilet. We felt safe and relaxed! The only thing I didn’t like is that I only booked one night and it’s time to go… We will definitely camp here again.

      Piney Bay

Beautiful, clean park with huge sites and a friendly host who obviously takes pride in her work. I only booked for 2 days for a break while traveling through the area and I wish I had a week or more. It's so peaceful and my dog loved being here.

      Riverfront RV Resort

I’m rating 5 stars as it fits the bill for RV Park Vs campground. Very spacious sites and very clean as it is only 3 years old. Easy to reserve, easy access, nice staff. Facilities are all clean and connections are layed-out properly. There are trees in the park which are still small but will eventually grow taller. Pull through Sites have concrete pad and fire ring. Fires were allowed and wood is available for $10 per bundle. There is a beautiful river walk trail that is wide and paved and will actually lead into downtown Fort Smith about 1 mile away. Massive shade tress along the river walk trail. Wildlife spotted along the river and occasional barge traffic on the river. Fort Smith has some unique history like the hanging judge Parker. Plenty of stores and restaurants in and around the town. Easy access to I-40. Had no problem driving travel trailer through city streets to get around. I plan to visit again and will make sure it’s in a cool season. We were here in October and it was quite warm.

      Ouachita Campground at Edendell

Sites are closer together than what appears online—overall clean and well maintained. A hike to the bathhouse but there is one!

      Adams Mountain Rd Dispersed Campsite

Nice little spot. Very easy to get in with plenty of room, level ground, and multiple fire rings. No spectacular view or anything, you're just in the woods with a couple ATV trails. Quiet.

      Irons Fork

      Nice sites but not maintained

Easy to get to off the main road. Spots are spread out with tables, grills and fire rings. The bathroom is disgusting with broken doors, didn't even look inside all the way. Water level currently too low to use the boat launch. Other than someone who arrived after dark and slept in their car on the boat ramp, we were the only ones there. Burn ban in effect while we were there. A park ranger did drive bys at 5:15am and again at 10:30am. Good for an overnight spot, very quiet and pretty. One bar with T-Mobile. Bonus persimmon trees along the shore!

      Shores Lake

A slightly below average quality camping spot. It's not a state park which probably explains it. It is managed by the Forest Service. All the expected amenities available.

      Piney Bay

      Great quiet spot

This camping spot is about 9 miles off of I40 and no traffic noise. Right on a lake with great views. I have a pop up tent on my truck and they allowed me to stay at one of the 5 now service tent spots and open my tent on the parking spot reserved for A4 tent site. You cannot drive right into your site. If you want to do as I did try for site A4 it’s table in closest to your vehicle. View of the lake. Camp host was very helpful.
