Peace of Mind Campgrounds: SHOW LOW, AZ

We are an RV and tent property in the white mountains located in Vernon, AZ. We have plenty of bare land that we maintain to pick a spot and start camping on, we have a fast food restaurant/grocery store on property that offers drive in/outdoor movies on designated nights. The peaceful tranquil property is located at the foot of Cerro Montoso Volcano where the Antelopes roam. We have limited Free electricity due to solar power and are working extending this limited free electricity to sites. We are also in process of building a shower/outhouse across from the store.

**The Camp**

**Nevado Ranch Camp** is 2.2 acres located smack dab in the middle of the Springerville “monogenetic” Volcanic Field (3rd largest in the U.S.) that consists of 405 discrete and dormant vents. The ground is relatively soft and perfect for a tent. We have plenty of free on-site parking.

At an elevation of 6,993 feet, **Nevado Ranch Camp**, Apache County, AZ, is an easy day’s drive to dozens of popular tourist destinations in Arizona and New Mexico.

In Portuguese, the word Nevado means “snowy.” The delicious city water we use is sourced from the never-gone-dry Coconino Aquafer. While we are completely off-the-grid, **Nevado Ranch Camp** is solar powered because we want to present as small a carbon footprint as possible.

**Changes in aLtitude, changes in aTtitude**

Given its elevation, there is no air pollution up here and it is roughly 20-25 degrees cooler at the Camp than it is in the Phoenix or Tucson valleys. At Nevado Ranch Camp, the air is clear and crisp which makes for awesome stargazing - the Milky Way can easily be seen overhead.

**The Campsites**

**At Nevado Ranch Camp**, we offer 10 well-maintained, level campsites nestled among a forest of juniper trees. We have intentionally kept the number of campsites low so that our guests don't feel like they are part of a chaotic crowd. Each campsite has a 10’ x 10’ area for tent as well as additional space for chairs, bikes and other camping items. Deck lights provide a smidgeon of illumination at night. You can have your own private campfire as long as you use the locations provided AND when checking in, you prove to management that you have a working fire extinguisher on hand.

You will be glad to know that the Camp is completely fenced off for your security. Our location is smack dab in the middle of the land inhabited by giant elk, coyotes, black bears, mule deer, antelope, foxes and mountain lions. The animals are usually active from dusk to dawn so don't be surprised if you hear these animals walking past your campsite on the road. The reason why they do so is because the series of roads and the vacant property next to us is the only unobstructed north/south passage for miles around - and the animals make use of it!

**The Hut**

The Hut is a converted barn (with hot and cold running water) that has a "serve yourself" kitchen for your use. There is a microwave, a three-burner stove, an air fryer and a George Forman grill, two refrigerators, and a blender. You bring your own K pods for the coffee maker, as well as your own sugar, creamer, etc. We provide the paper plates and bowls, plastic cutlery, drink cups, and napkins for your use - you bring your own food and beverages, seasonings, etc. The bathroom w/shower is cleaned and sterilized daily.

**Recreation Deck**

When you want to step away from the tent and lounge in the sun or moonlight, you will find a 15' x 20' asymmetrical Victorian stone deck outfitted with a gas grill, a music entertainment system, a lounge bed w/shade, an in-the-deck fire pit and a number of comfy Adirondack lounge chairs. Tiki torches and deck lights provide a subtle illumination at night. A badminton net is also used for volleyball and "tickle ball" (our version of pickleball). Bring your own paddles and other equipment. We keep the net down low so the young'uns can experience the thrill of spiking the ball!

**Indoor Relaxation Area**

You will like the indoor relaxation area that has a sofa, a recliner, a computer desk w/printer, wi-fi (no streaming, please!), and a tv. A shaded patio with sofa and chairs is just outside the front door.

**Live music**

If you’re a musician and/or a singer, bring your instruments and your melodic voice. The instruments we make available to guests include a Gibson Les Paul 100-year anniversary edition electric guitar, baritone and tenor ukeleles, a Brazilian mini Djembe drum, bongos, a harmonica, and a hand-carved Hawaiian tenor percussion block.

Our property is 7 miles away from Show Low Safeway. Picturesque, laden with trees, quiet, peaceful surroundings. Our private property has good security as it is fenced in and gated.

Mountain Destiny

One Camping Per Vehicle Permit covers up to a maximum of 8 people or 1 vehicle, in a campsite. RV’s towing an unoccupied vehicle is also covered under this permit. Individuals who bike, hike, get bused in, or come as a single person (without vehicle) must purchase a Camping Daily Per Vehicle Permit. Reservation camping permits are NON-TRANSFERABLE and NON-REFUNDABLE. Primitive camping requires the same permit as camping in designed areas. We also offer a monthly (30-day) camping permit for the outdoor lovers. All designated campsites are first-come first-serve basis. Campers are limited to 1 table per daily permit or 2 tables per monthly permit.

## Overview

Winn Campground is situated near the Mt. Baldy trailheads and the East and West Forks of the Little Colorado River, making it an excellent choice for anglers and hikers. The facility offers many amenities and a variety of campsites, from group sites to tent-only and standard individual sites. It offers a peaceful and remote setting, as well as convenience to a host of outdoor activities and scenic areas.

## Recreation

Several nearby lakes invite anglers and boaters to fish for trout, including stocked Apache trout at Lee Valley Reservoir. With its proximity to the Mt. Baldy Wilderness, Winn Campground also attracts hikers. Mount Baldy tops out at 11,420 feet and is the tallest peak in Arizona's White Mountains.

## Facilities

The facility provides 63 campsites, including some that can accommodate RVs or tents, others are for tents only and two group sites can accommodate up to 50 people each. The group sites are especially popular with scout groups and family reunions.   
  
Due to water restrictions, RVs must arrive with their water tanks already filled. Water is available at Big Lake, just 10 miles away if needed. Limited drinking water is available at the campground. Firewood can be purchased on-site.

## Natural Features

Winn Campground is situated in a thick pine and aspen forest at an elevation of 8,500 feet near Lee Valley and Big Lake. Several smaller lakes are located within a short drive. From the campground, visitors can take in scenic views of the surrounding White Mountains. Some campsites border a large meadow where elk are often seen at twilight.   
  
Summer temperatures can be very pleasant because of the elevation. However, the rainy season often brings afternoon thunderstorms from late June through August. Visitors should come prepared for rain and cool nighttime temperatures.

Visitors can explore endless vistas and take part in many outdoor activities in the surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, which encompasses 2 million acres of magnificent mountain country in east-central Arizona and New Mexico. The nearest town is Springerville, Arizona.
