Set within forested terrain in Apache National Forest, Gabaldon operates as an eight-site horse campground that accommodates RVs up to 16 feet. Each site includes horse stalls that campers report as clean and well-maintained, though the facility caters specifically to equestrian camping. The campground provides basic amenities including toilets, trash service, and allows campfires and pets.
Campers describe the location as quiet, with a trail crossing a nearby creek providing direct water access. Black bears actively visit the area, as evidenced by claw marks left on vehicles, making proper food storage essential. For additional options, see campgrounds around Greer. The Forest Service requires bear spray on hiking trails, so pack accordingly for this backcountry setting.
Description
Gabaldon Campground is situated amid spruce trees at the foot of the Mount Baldy Wilderness. The campground is named for Juan Gabaldon, who retired from the Forest Service after working on many of the trails in the area. The campground is a perfect spot to relax after a day's ride. This campground is limited to campers with horses or stock animals.
