Long Jim Loop Campground

Long Jim Loop has a fantastic location directly down the road from the south entrance to the Grand Canyon. The area is pretty with rocky hills and pine trees. Sites are good size and have decent separation. Sites are directly off the road which is used by local residents.

Tons of spots off of the loop and the road is very well maintained (dirt/gravel but smooth). We rolled up on a Sunday night around 10:30pm and had plenty of spots to choose from.

Right outside of the south gate of the Grand Canyon, this is a perfect spot if you get here early enough. The loop leads to housing and apartments but this area is part of the national forest on a grated road and very quiet even though it's near the main road going to the park. Supplies are less than a mile away, but I'd make sure you bring everything with you. The prices of groceries and gas are way over the top. Gas is currently $4.59 here (12/25), when I paid $2.77 near Flagstaff. But the area is gorgeous and the spots are easy to get into, even with a camper. Its probably hard to find a spot during the regular season. Im visiting in December. Mid 60's during the day, with lows around 30 at night.

Easy accessible right behind the park entrance, outside of the park. Perfect to catch the sunrise at Mather point. There are a couple sites. There were 3 more C-Class RV (25-30 feet) beside us.

Could be tricky during heavy rain because of the „soft“ Forrest soil.

The dirt entrance road is well maintained. We are in a 40-foot motorhome, pulling a 24-foot trailer and found multiple spots big enough for us. Online reviews of this area say it's rarely used. We only saw a handful of other campers on the entire loop road. I would estimate there are 40-50 different dispersed camping spots of varying sizes on this dirt road. Very quiet and private off the main road to Grand Canyon National Park entrance.

No amenities available but sites are pretty level and there is decent spacing between sites. Seems very safe and there is a good balance of trees and open area.

In this dispersed campground in the nature you are near everything near to Grand Canyon near to some market but it’s also so calm just a really good place to crash if you want to stay without paying a Rv park or something like that No amenities but you can go to the Mather Campground and pay a little if you want to take a shower or to do your laundry. I recommend this place

Super close to the Grand Canyon. Easy access. There are some rough patches in the road but even large rvs can still come and go easy as long as they slow down.

The location can be busy especially during tourist season. I went during the off time so it wasn’t too bad but it still had quite a few people.

The cell coverage was good enough for phone calls no problems but internet was really hit and miss. Mostly miss.

Very easy to find! Several other people, but enough space to not be too close together.

This is my favorite campground ever! It is so convenient, only 1 mile out from the South Rim entrance of Grand Canyon and was not crowded whatsoever. There are tons of sites and each one is private, shaded, and easily accessible. No bathrooms but it doesn’t really matter since you’re so close to Grand Canyon NP and there is also some shops down the road. For the most part the road is totally fine but there are areas with big potholes to get to some sites off the main road.

We loved how close we were to everything! Little town just a minute from the loop entrance for souvenirs, food and whatever else you need, and only a couple minutes from the south rim entrance of the Grand Canyon! The chicken alfredo from We Cook Pizza And Pasta was delicious! Only down side was the N Long Jim Loop road has a TON of potholes so you have to go like 5mph. Lots of spots for all different kinds of campers, rvs, tents. Fire places at each spot. Some sites have neighbors closer than others, our site felt pretty private! LOTS of wild elk in the area.

Really lovely area, gorgeous to camp in, super easy to find. It's a long road with several places to pull out for either motorized dispersed camping or other camping farther from the road. It ends at all these buildings that I didnt know the use of but there were all these elk running around.

It was pretty crowded on a wednesday in early May. I got there 4:30 and it rapidly filled up. Since my site was far back along the road I think people got to the end and then turned around and stopped there. It was kinda sad seeing the RVs and camper vans make it all the way along just to turn back.

But all my neighbors were nice but all spoke French. Overall, crowded, but can't beat proximity to the park so it's alright. Also worth noting is there were several fire roads/forest service roads on the same highway north getting to Long Jim Loop, so if there's no room I'd have just gone there.

Pure nature and quiet. Public area for camping. Campfire can be made. No toilets or electronic connections.

Spots every where we got here at 10 pm on a Saturday and found a spot right off of long Jim loop road. You'll definitely have neighbors close to you but it's the perfect spot being right by the grand canyon entrance

About 10min driving from Grand Canyon south rim entrance. Very close to the grocery store and coffee shop and other stores. Lots of spacious spots to choose from.

Because it is so close to town, and easily averting to large vehicles, this site will attract lots of RVs. I have a minivan so I'm limited in privacy but it still worked. I think I got the best spot and this was way better than FS 538 which was easy to confuse the direction of the exit. I did see the elk on the way in and just cherished my first wild sighting ever 🥰.

At first we didn't know what to expect, but this place was so beautiful, we used our 4x4 and parked in the back 40, worth the drive, the stars were beautiful, we were close to town for beer and ice, the only thing is, people don't pick up there trash, broken glass at every call sight I walked too, very sad, but its elk country, a elk came to visit us at night, scared the hell of of me at first but I'm from Colorado so I know how to avoid them and let them carry on, the bat that lived in the tree kinda became our friend, the stars out here are beautiful, and I didn't hear the road traffic cause we were in the back 40 area, very beautiful place

We staid here on the night before we went to GC NP and on the way out. Nice site and close to the park close to the town to get some food or get free WiFi. Since it’s close to the airport you’ll hear the planes in the morning and also since it’s close to the town you hear the street, but it was not busy at night.

This is a nice campground with good cell service (I'm using Verizon). No hookups, pack in/pack out. Campsites are grouped fairly close together but still dispersed, not bad on weekdays but quite busy on the weekends & a spots are on a first come, first served basis. Road gets quite busy in the evenings with people looking for spots but if unable to find one, there is Mather Campground or a dispersed off road site 2 minutes down the road just past Smokey Bear sign on the left hand side. Good sun for people with solar & very close to the Grand Canyon Park entrance! Happy camping everyone!

It’s a very nice spot, about 10 minutes from the park. There are a lot of spots, kinda close together but not so much it would bother. Very well marked. Lots of wood to make fire. Very pretty.

This is a parking lot to a shopping plaza.

Perfect spot under the trees on Long Jim Loop road (a few meters on the left after the Tusayan roundabout going to Grand Canyon). During off-season there were plenty of spaces to park. Super quiet and under 15 mins you are in Grand Canyon village!

The spot is super close to the south Grand Canyon entrance. There are some fire spots provided but other than that pretty basic. You need to drive a short gravel road to get there, but being so close to the street you can't hear almost any noise. Gets pretty busy in the evening so claim your place early.

Great dispersed sites. Probably at least 15 or so sites. Most have fire pits and plenty of space. Nothing extra special other than the fact that it’s free camping not even 5 minutes from the South Gate of Grand Canyon NP.
