Tusayan Dispersed Camping FS Road 302

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

FS Road 302 cuts south off SR-64 just outside the town of Tusayan, putting campers within a short drive of the south entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. The terrain is open ponderosa pine forest with red dirt pull-ins scattered along the gravel road. No fees, no reservations, and no formal facilities. Campers who need a restroom have noted that the gas station in Tusayan is close enough for a quick run.

Site conditions vary with season. In late winter and early spring, snowmelt can turn the pull-in areas muddy enough to require four-wheel drive, so vehicles with limited clearance should plan accordingly. Summer and fall visits tend to find the road and sites in better shape. Elk have been spotted in the area. Loops A and B sit directly under the flight path used by sightseeing helicopters returning from the canyon, and the air traffic runs consistently from around 9 a.m. onward. Campers who want more distance from the noise should head further from SR-64 along the road.

Crowd levels are generally low. Multiple visitors report arriving to find only a handful of other campers, with sites spread far enough apart to feel uncrowded. Cell service is available. Campfires and pets are permitted. Nearby dispersed options include Kaibab NF Dispersed near FR 302 — Tusayan and FSR 303 Dispersed Outside Grand Canyon Airport for campers who want to compare spots before committing. For a broader look at camping near Kaibab National Forest, The Dyrt lists additional sites across the surrounding forest. This is a functional, no-cost base for anyone using Tusayan as a staging point for a Grand Canyon visit.

Campers regularly cited the convenient location near Tusayan and Grand Canyon with spacious, level sites. Many mentioned helicopter tour noise as a notable drawback, especially in loops A&B under the flight path.

Perfect spot, shady and easy access

Would stay again, great spot in the Forrest super close to town for a quick run in to the toilets at the gas station if need be. Lots of helicopters flying over from about 9am. Only 2 other vans there when we were and very spread out. Easy and roomy

Awesome.

Just the right mixture of having some privacy and having a nice large space and knowing that there’s a few other campers within insight. Make me feel safe.

Quick and Easy in and out

Nicely situated a minute or two off the main road. No services but plenty of camping spots. I got in late and left early and there were only a few other campers.

Easy and close to Grand Canyon

Great spot right off the main road just south of Tusayan. Really easy to get to and find. Just minutes from the south entrance of grand canyon. We stayed here in late February and only saw one other group camping here. The gravel road was fine but the campsite pull ins were extremely muddy and we had to use 4 wheel drive to get out of one spot. Lots of snow melt caused these conditions so I am sure other times of the year won't be as bad. Not extremely scenic, just a bunch of pine trees and red dirt but I was perfect for the night.

Lovely forest, good road, easy to find a level spot, friendly elk. Loops A&B are directly under the flight path of sightseeing helicopters returning from the Grand Canyon. Go further from SR64.

FS dispersed camping just outside Tusayan

Nice dispersed area close to town, easy bike ride or walk to stores but seems remote. It is close to airport so GC tour helicopters come in low and often, cool but gets old. Fortunately times are regulated.
