Road 302 dispersed camping sits within Kaibab National Forest, south of the Grand Canyon's south rim, and the flight corridors that serve canyon tour operators pass overhead roughly every half hour from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Campers who arrive expecting forest silence will want to factor that in. Road noise from passing vehicles is less of an issue, since the sites sit far enough from the main corridor that traffic doesn't carry.

The road itself gives access to multiple dispersed spots along its length. Sites near the entrance, at the top of the first hill close to the information station, tend to see more cars moving through toward spots further in. T-Mobile users report decent cell coverage at that area of the road. RVs up to 30 feet can access the campground, and campfires, pets, and alcohol are all permitted. Groceries and fuel are worth stocking up on before arriving. One reviewer reported diesel at $4.99 per gallon at a nearby station in early November.
