Kofa Queen Canyon sits within Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where dispersed sites line the road into the canyon. High clearance is required. Campers must stay within 100 feet of an existing road, and fire pits are already established at many spots. Teddy bear cholla are dense throughout the area, so dogs must stay leashed. Spacing between campers tends to run a half mile or more, and some daytime ATV traffic passes through. This setup works best for self-sufficient campers comfortable with true boondocking conditions.
