FR171 is one of my favorite spots.

Has 48 spots to camp. Some are great for rv, and some are very rocky. The road along sites are rv friendly. We spent 14 days in July and 20 days total. August went back for 12 days. September, it rained once every day.

Beautiful Views!

This campsite was very clean upon arrival and was very easy drive in and out. We were less than a 10 min walk to the rim which has a stunning view! I highly recommend this spot to people at any camping level.

new favorite spot

Absolutely loved this campground! I went on a weekday so I got a great spot right near the rim. My little 2wd car made it in just fine. Can't wait to visit again as soon as I get the chance. :)

Free and Easy!

I have camped here twice. Both times found a great spot with a fire pit. Proximity to the Rim Visitor's Center for some ranger advice and a toliet! Also just right across the street from the Rim Lakes. Love to spend the night here and then get an early start to Horton's or other nearby hikes.

Great for a quick & easy camp out

Swung through here on my way to Phoenix after driving 13hrs. Middle of the week so was easy to find an open spot and honestly I want too picky. There were still a good amount of people camping so I can only imagine weekends or prime times this place is hectic

Good flat spots all around with fire rings. Road can be a lil severe in spots but not bad at all. Can definitely tell this place gets a lot of use and there is trash here and there so do your best to pack out EVERYTHING you bring in

Best spots are on the cliff edge overlooking the valley but also taken pretty quick sooo cross your fingers.

Overall a great area if you just need to get some rest but I don’t think I’d come here for a weekend camp trip

Beautiful views!

Great free area to camp. Spots go fast on the weekends. There were some campsites where people left trash which was disappointing. Pack it in and out!

Really nice

We came in on a Friday and stayed until Monday. The weekend was pretty busy with atv’s but we were close to the road. We had site 34 which was pretty large and we had good wifi and satellite signal. You couldn’t really hear your neighbors. Some sites are very rocky, but there is a site for pretty much every type of camper. We had wild horses walk by our site. Most people left on Sunday and then it was really quiet. We would definitely stay here again.

Quiet. Peaceful. Clean.

A lovely, quiet place, even on the 4th of July. Beautiful. Has picnic tables but no other amenities. You bring it in with you, take it out with you. No trash. Not sure if there's toilets (we brought our own).

Nice area and easy to access

We are fairly new to camping in Arizona. We decided to go camping last minute this past weekend, so we had no reservations. We found this area randomly, and we were very pleased. It was easy to access, and dispersed campgrounds lined the road. Tons of space between sites. There were plenty of other campers near us, but it still felt fairly private. The fire pits were well maintained. Our site had a beautiful set up of stones surrounding the pit. The campsite was very clean. The area was pretty, but not spectacular. There is road noise from the highway, but that’s the price you pay for easy access. It didn’t bother us for a quick getaway.

Edge of the world

Neat little place to go see the views from the rim. The Old Rim Raod gets a little busy for my taste, but being 50 yards off the road helps. The temperatures were great 70s in the day and high 40s at night. The wind starts late morning and blows pretty good until well after sun set. The camp host was very friendly and informative about the dangers of local wildlife.

Beautiful view!

Fires rarely allowed and the wind can make camping here a bit chilly. Nothing can take away the view though! Some of this area is literally at the edge of the Mog Rim! I wouldn’t bring tiny kids here for fear of them tumbling down the cliff, but adults looking for a quiet getaway would love it here.
