Tobyhanna State Park Campground

The foliage and trees helps it feel private although there’s someone on both sides and across from you, luckily we were alone for the weekend bc it wasn’t fully booked. Bathrooms and showers were very clean and had potable. Each campground has lake access but it’s very critter heavy so I recommend the main fishing dock area. Caught a bullhead catfish around 11 pm 8 in. Recommend small rods under 6 ft. Staff was very friendly and super easy to extend our stay another day. $50 2 nights out of state res.

we loved both of our stays here! it was mine and my partner’s first time camping and we had a great experience. the layout was really nice, and easy to get to. the bathrooms were really close to walk to and VERY clean! the only issue we faced was the closeness of the other campsites. we went during off season and during the week, so it didn’t really affect us but i can see how this place can get crowded and a little noisy during peak season. with all the being said, it was WONDERFUL!! we LOVED the late checkout (3pm) and loved the peaceful atmosphere! i would definitely recommend this place for beginner campers!

The lake is gorgeous and there are nice hiking trails, but sites are very small and close together. Let’s are allowed in less than half of the campground, which means all the dogs are in a smaller area and barking at each other more than other places. The no-pet area was practically empty when we were there midweek but the pets-allowed area was much more crowded than we would have liked.

Also rules and signage are wildly confusing, lots of things contradict each other. Cell service exists but not great for remote work.

Our first timing camping at Tobyhanna and it won't be our last.

Mix of electric and non-electric sites.  No water hook ups but a water station is on site.

Camp sites are generously size, good spacing between sites and heavily treed.  Huge lake to enjoy.  We rode our mountain bikes around the 5 mile trail around the lake.  Just awesome.

My fiancee and I stayed for 2 nights and loved the campsite. While not very private by any means, the facilities were clean, well organized, and access to the lake/firewood/basic necessities were all very satisfactory. The weather in this area is very pleasant during the summer and made for a great stay.

Lots of lake front campsites, although most don't have views of the lake. Very clean and pretty campground. It's large and easy to get away from other people. Most sites appeared to be quite flat.

We have been hiking here several times, this was our first time getting a campsite. We really enjoyed it. The 5 mile hike around the lake was very pretty with the trees just starting to come into full summer bloom and the bird activity was through the roof. Our site was good size, we didn't have electricity, but didn't need it. Friendly people camping near us and the facilities seemed well kept up. Looked like there is a place to rent boats or kayaks from, we might do that this summer. Lots of people kayaking the lake and there was a launch from right inside the campground. Like other state parks in PA, dogs are limited. Kind of a bummer as one of our favorite things to do is walk around and check out everyone else's unique set-ups. Can't walk your dog in the non-pet parts. But all in all, good weekend and we will be back.

Site 132, it's the hardest to get with good reason! Secluded, dog friendly, and you have your very own nature trail to the lake. Wonderful place, we love coming here!

This place only gets 4 stars because I thought we were going to have water and electric hook ups. They only have 2 kinds of sites, modern electric (only electric) and primitive. They have a potable water station and dump station and very few sites with electric hook up. They also have specific pet friendly sites. We had a wonderful time here. We went for Father’s Day weekend in June. The lake is gorgeous! Beachfront swimming and boat rentals, great biking and hiking trails. Sites are mostly separated by trees but are still close. Bath houses were very clean and they have a dish washing sink as well. Beach is within walking and biking distance. Two cons- Bath house at the beach is 50 cents for a 2-minute shower, so we just went back to the campground bath house to clean up. The playground near sites 53-56 is a little underwhelming. Otherwise was a great stay! We already booked another stay in September this year!

Such a friendly campsite but definitely more suited to families with kids. There were a lot of family groups booked in with adjacent sites. Unfortunately we were opposite a site being used as the kitchen area by a group of 5 dads and 12-15 kids, it was very, very loud at 7am!

I did love the atmosphere though, the camp host was great, and it is super convenient for kayaking and hiking. The bathrooms were convenient and clean.

Many of the sites weren’t super private and some were very small so pick with care depending on your preference.

The in-park campgrounds are pretty basic and very crowded. But, getting into the state game lands around it gives you a very private area and the campsites are easily accessible by car.

Just stayed 2 nights with my 7 yrs. old daughter we had a blast. Everyone was very nice camp host and DCNR were very helpful We were warned at check in that there have been a lot of bears in the area but never really thought that we would see one. As soon as we got to our site one came right up as we were setting up our tent. Do not leave any food out be sure to lock up everything in car. Camp sites were nice most had plenty of trees for privacy but were still kind of close. Pet sites looked to have more space. The lake is very nice a little copper kind of like iced tea color but was very nice. They have a few hiking trails we didn't get to do, also have a horse shoe pit volleyball ball area and a little play area in the camping area. There was plenty more at the swimming area. Bathrooms were immaculate even had a family bathroom

Scenic state park with a lake. You can swim in the lake in the summer or do a 5-mile hike around the lake along well-marked walk paths. There are at least two parking lots(no parking fees). Both are easily accessible from State Route 423. One is by the lake spillway), which is very picturesque with the cascading water. This area would be an ideal spot to start the hike. The hike should last 1.5 to 2 hours for the average person. Spray some insect repellent before you start. The other parking lot is near the beachwhich is obviously where you'd want to park if you're planning to swim. The beach area is part of the hiking trail so you can easily start a hike before or after you take a dip. There are shower facilities near the beach. Swimming is at your own risk since there are no life guards around.

Great place to bring kids.

The campsites are nice. Fish was great.

Camped here growing up. Visited again as an adult. Great memories. Quiet and relaxing. Great place to do nothing

Just finished up two nights in site 123. These sites are RIGHT AGAINST THE ROAD. Other state parks tend to make their sites deep, whereas these are wide.

They dont seem to enforce quiet time after 9, which would be fine if each campsite wasn't right up on the neighbor. Bathrooms were clean enough, and they have coin op laundry which could be nice for families. They only had one utility sink to clean dishes, and the faucet was a poorly working motion sensor- time consuming and annoying.

The park seems best suited to families who want to fish off of a dam, hand out at a "beach", play volleyball, or let their kids run around with some freedom.

Decent hiking trail nearby, in state game lands 122, but this park is centered around the lake with no great hiking on site.

Didn't hate it, won't be back.

We walked around the reservoir on a lovely path and enjoyed the nicely-cared-for amenities. My family thought the sites were too close together and that the sites along the water would be better if they were tucked back from the road and closer to the water. The bullfrogs made joyful sounds, but we were hoping to be more rustic and further from other people.

There are sites right on the lake. The bathrooms aren’t the greatest but overall it’s a beautiful place

Scenic and spacious. Large camping areas that can fit two cars onsite and include picnic tables, some even with water and electric hookups. The bathrooms are large and well kept. The lake is nearby and doesn’t get crowded. There’s a separate shore for kayaks and canoes to enter the lake. We even got to see an eagles’ nest near our campsite.

We picked this site because you can kayak and it’s close to the tree top adventures. Typical campground with bathrooms and showers. The best part is the lake for water activities and the surrounding things you can do.

I was able to get up to the Poconos before the fall color ended! What an experience!! Breathtaking views from nearby trails and nearby Big Pocono State Park. The park staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about nearby trails and best places to get the most out of the views! I felt very safe camping here alone as a woman. The park ranger would frequently drive through the campground. I never saw any bears, although the staff said there were bears in the area. They had large dumpsters away from the campsites to dispose of garbage safely. Being able to wake up lakeside up in the mountain and looking at the view was an experience that I will always treasure!

I have been going to this campground since I could walk and it's never gotten old. I just went there again this past summer, and the lake and near by hikes are perfect for everyone in the family. We went to boulder fields and hawk falls as well!
