Wooded sites, birdsong at dawn, and a mid-century lodge define the atmosphere at Wall Doxey State Park Campground outside Holly Springs, Mississippi. The campground sits within a forested stretch of north Mississippi, where sites are shaded by pines and hardwoods thick enough that fall leaves accumulate across the ground by October. It runs year-round, which means it occasionally sees snow in winter, though rangers have a reputation for going out of their way to accommodate campers who arrive in difficult conditions.
Sites vary in their suitability depending on how you're camping. Tent campers should arrive by early afternoon to verify that their assigned site has flat ground for stakes, since not all sites accommodate tents equally well. RV campers with larger rigs should note that trees crowd both sides of many spaces, limiting slide-out clearance, and that most sites are not level. Orita I. noted that a 38-foot RV fit without major difficulty, but site selection mattered. Sites do have water and electric hookups, with full sewer hookups also available. Cell service is workable, with T-Mobile and AT&T both reported as functional, though AT&T signal runs weak.
The park's main draw beyond the campsite itself is Spring Lake. Fishing is the primary water activity, with two piers and a small boat launch. Swimming is not permitted in the lake. A two-mile hiking trail circles the water, and an 18-hole disc golf course winds through the pine forest. The park also has two playgrounds, volleyball, and a bathhouse with coin-operated laundry. Firewood is sometimes unavailable for purchase, so bringing your own is worth considering.
Bathrooms are older but consistently described as clean. Crowding is rarely an issue, though proximity to a university means disc golfers and day-use visitors show up regularly on weekends. Campers who have stayed here as a base for exploring the Holly Springs National Forest area find it well-positioned for that purpose. Tick awareness is warranted during warmer months given the dense pine cover. The campground works best for campers who prioritize wooded sites, lake access, and full hookups over updated facilities.
