Baraga State Park Campground

One thing you can always count on at Baraga State Park is cleanliness and polite staff

Decided to drive north to stay on Keweenaw Bay. The only thing you couldn't tell is that the State Park was right on the road. Literally. No site is quiet. Traffic goes all day and all night. Park was curiously mostly full with families and ither campers set up fir the weekend?. Clearly a popular spot. Very clean bathrooms and showers a lovely Park Ranger.

I can hear my neighbors talking at their campsite from mine. We are packed in here like sardines.

Beautiful area, though. Caught a rainbow just as we were setting up camp. And they had wood and ice.

The campgrond ok the bathrooms nice the site we had was not very good did not like it by road but all site you can hear traffic it was loud and not camper friendly to set out side at all so I will not go back they give you rules and one was don't leave dogwood in site and we had it at our site we went to breakfast one morning came back and the man his wife camping in front was standing outside his slide and peeing just pretty disgusting. So no will not go back was not fun experience

Overall, it’s a very nice park.  Sites are mostly level & of adequate size.  Bathrooms & showers are top notch (relatively speaking).  There’s a 3/4 mile trail at back of park that well short, is quite nice.  The campground itself is quiet, the noise from hwy 41 on the other hand, is noticeable yet not a dealbreaker.  Well situated to check out the area.

This campground is right next to the highway and the traffic noise goes on all night. Granted, there is a beautiful view of the bay since there is no tree line to buffer the noise, but it’s very difficult to enjoy that view due to the constant racket. I will not be back.

This was a pretty typical state park camping experience. It is right on the highway so there is highway noise. We could see the lake over the highway from our site which was nice. This site was okayed for a 35 ft trailer but we had some challenges positioning our 33ft trailer so beware of that! There was a nice 3/4 mile trail that had a fun activity. We heard some loud speaker noises on that trail and realized there is a maximum security prison nearby so just note that if that concerns you at all. Definitely not a quiet experience but clean and very well kept. Not sure we'd visit again for a long stay but might be a nice stopping point for a night on a longer drive.

My review is mixed. Seems well run. Bathrooms are clean and the water is hot. There is a sign that says $5 for a shower if you aren’t a registered camper so that is good if you are just passing through. Sites are typical for a state park. Our site was a little muddy. Lots of activities for kids. My biggest complaint is the park is right on the main highway. The road noise was loud and constant. The lake is across the highway so to get to the water would be like playing frogger. Not a place I would want to spend time hanging in the camp, but a good base for heading further north.

Newer bath house in center of park. Right off highway, so there is some highway noise. Well kept up park. Nice sites.

We were in 50 amp site. Water and dump station available. Verizon cell service adequate. i

I will be totally transparent and say I definitely prefer rustic or dispersed campsites.. however, I always give state parks an honest chance.

Baraga State Park... I have tried. Ohh, have I tried to like you over the years.

However, this is the WORST example of what a Michigan DNR campground can be. They squeezed in WAY too many sites in this place. You can hear the campers next to you fart in their sleep.

Not even a stones throw from US-41 makes for constant road noise... and sites that have been submerged in water a day following rainfall. You always see campers here moving their tents, RV’s, etc... to drier portions of their sites.

The only reason I give this TWO stars is because of the well-kept and nice bathhouse.

I stop here solely to shower during my travels. I will stay on the side of the road before I set up camp here again.

The campsites are very close together and the whole campground is next to very busy road. My tent was under a flood light all night.

Baraga is an interesting place to visit - but don't plan to camp here. The campground is literally a few yards from Interstate 41 - the trucks and noise make it impossible to catch any shut eye from any site in the park.

Campsites are small and when we went, totally muddy (Mid July) There is a small hole in the wall casino nearby. We golfed at a course a little north and it was like golfing in a cow pasture, but prices were right up there. (Had to take motion sickness pills to survive the ride back to the club house after only 5 holes.) Lake Superior is beautiful and there was a good steak house within 15 minutes.

Fort Wilkin, at the northern tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula is not worth the drive.

Camp host very helpful, highway noisy. Small trail behind rail road tracks, which were seldom used.

Nice being in the bay of Lake Superior, but the highway is loud, and in between us and the bay. Teepee optional, for campers who don’t want to set up tents- with bunks and furniture inside!!!

Really did not like this campground at all and it was a very big disappointment. It is right next to a state highway that was way busier than I thought it was and was noisy all night long. You have to cross this highway to get to the Keweenaw Bay. The weekend we stayed there was apparently a "Christmas in July" festival complete with all the tacky decorations and absurd amount of lights. Camp sites were very close together with no privacy or wooded spots between. Bathrooms were meh and had small stalls, no ADA stalls and no ADA showers. I would not recommend this campground at all.

the campground is very nice and so are the campground hosts. its very close to 41 so you hear a lot of road noise (reason for my lower score). there are train tracks behind our site. we’ve only been here a few hours and havent had a train come by. it seems to be close to orv trails, lots of people here have sidexsides and quads. no one has been loud though. bathrooms are nice and clean and showers seem clean too (havent used them yet). no laundry here if youre looking for that. dogs are welcome.

While the park itself is nice, it is right next to the road. So if you tent or hammock camp, there is a lot of road noise.
