Reservations are available year-round at Twin Lakes State Park Campground, and advance booking matters here. Sites fill quickly in summer, and walk-in availability is limited in a state where campgrounds book out well ahead of peak season. Nightly rates run $35 to $80, with full hookup sites accommodating RVs up to 40 feet. The campground sits directly on Lake Roland, and lakeside sites are the ones campers compete for. Some sites back up against Highway 26, which generates road noise worth factoring into site selection. The blacktop site surfaces hold up well in wet weather, with at least one reviewer noting that even during heavy rain a lakeside site stayed dry.
Water access drives most visits. Campers can launch watercraft at the boat ramp and access a connected trail system that draws UTV riders and off-road enthusiasts. Swimming in the lake gets consistent mentions across reviews. Facilities are functional: flush and pit toilets, showers, a dump station, and electric, water, and sewer hookups. The bathrooms were dated as of recent visits, though a significant renovation including new paving and updated shower facilities was announced for 2024. Cell service on AT&T has been reported as strong.
The surrounding Upper Peninsula puts the campground within reach of Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park and Lake of the Clouds. A waterfall is located roughly five minutes away by car. Meredith J. describes having "a nice spot right on the lake" in fall when the tree cover changes color. Campers wanting a quieter, less developed stay might consider Emily Lake State Forest Campground to the south as an alternative.
