Fishing access draws many visitors to Weeping Rock Campground, a small BLM site along the river outside Kemmerer, Wyoming. Several campers have pulled rainbow trout directly from the bank, and Chuck S. notes "easy shore fishing access" with multiple eagles visible overhead. The campground sits just below the Fontenelle Reservoir dam, surrounded by cottonwood trees, and includes sites of different sizes to accommodate both tents and RVs. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with a cooking grate.
The road in requires some attention. Following posted signs rather than GPS navigation is strongly recommended, as at least one route involves a rougher gravel road with significant washboard sections. Cell service is unreliable at the campground itself, even for carriers that show coverage nearby. The site is free and first-come, first-served, which means weekend crowds are common. Spots closest to the water tend to fill quickly on Fridays and Saturdays.
Amenities include vault toilets, a dumpster, and listed drinking water, though at least one visitor found no water on site and advises bringing your own supply. Maintenance has been inconsistent, with some recent reviews noting full trash receptacles and unstocked toilet facilities. The Tail Race Campground sits less than a mile to the west and provides an overflow option if Weeping Rock is full. For a broader look at the region, Fontenelle Creek Rec Area is located to the northwest. Arrive early on summer weekends and carry water regardless of what the listing states.
Description
Weeping Rock Campground is a popular spot for fishermen, campers and picnickers and offers fishing and boat access to the Green River. It has 10 campsites with picnic tables, barbecue grills, and a vault toilet. Trout and kokanee salmon live in this area of the Green River, and since the area is restricted to motorboats, the fishing is always good. This site is located near historic resources. Please do not collect or damage resources.
