Camping right in the Reservoir

8/24/25 Beautiful view of the water and mountains in the background . Surrounded by hills. Just off highway 189. Very convenient for traveling. This was a quick overnight stop for us. There is a vault toilet, covered picnic tables and fire rings. Also a boat ramp. It was $7.00 FF no reservation needed. Very windy! No trees to block. There were only two other sites taken

Really nice

Very open scenery by the lake. BLM sites with a picnic table and roof cover over it. It’s $7 a night a think. Me and my friends cowboy camped here for a night during December, about 4°F with snow on the ground. There is also a boat ramp right next to the campground and you can ice fish on the lake.

Hidden Gem

This campground has lovely views of the reservoir and was a respite from a long day on the road. As others said it’s a bit dated, treeless and windy. Quiet and peaceful.

Paved sites by a reservoir

There are not many campgrounds in this part of Wyoming. This is a BLM facility with paved sites, a metal shade by the picnic table, barbecue grills, garbage, potable water and flush toilets. All this for $7 per site. There is fishing here and a boat ramp. Our 24’ pop up truck camper had more than enough room. There are two handicap access sites and restrooms. It was barren with few trees but it was clean and a great deal for the price. There were only a few people when we were there in very early October 2020. There are 55 sites.

WINDY

This is a barren and windy campground. They provide shelters from the wind. See photo. There are rarely people camped here. It is right near the lake and not far from the boat launch. They fish for bass, trout and lingcod in Fontenell reservoir There are much better camp sites below the dam along the river with trees.
