Slate Creek Campground

We arrived here late on a weekday and found lots of open spots. Although, it wasn't always clear where the actual sites were and where the road was. There were quite a few campers set up along the river, and several people fishing.

We were able to find a level spot with trees around it and an easy walk to the toilet.

The toilet was clean and well stocked.

Saw lots of pelicans and other water birds in and near the river.

Very easy access with a good road.

Very quiet and pleasant stay.

This is a fully dispersed site— it’s about ten minutes from Blue Forest if you’re interested in rockhounding for fossilized wood.

We pulled up at 6pm on a Saturday night, and most of the spots were still available.

The entire camp was maintained and clean. There’s a river to fish on and swim in (if you can brave the cold) and a hill to the river which makes it easier to put a boat in.

We had no issues until sunset around 9pm and the amount of gnats that came out was so insane, you could hardly breathe without inhaling a few.

Not mosquitos— gnats.

We had bug nets for our van so it was fine, but it forced an early bedtime. 🤣

Peaceful camping right on the green! A decent amount of people use this place, but it doesn’t seem to fill up. I came here on a Sunday night and there was plenty of room. Still here three days later cause it’s a great spot. Free, 14 day limit. It is windy in the afternoons, which is fine if you are in a van, but can imagine a tent could be a little unpleasant sometimes. Trash and pit toilets available.

We accidentally happened upon this site at the end of the summer of 2024 & vowed to return.  We spent five nights here in July 2025 & another five nights with friends Labor Day weekend.  While there were numerous folks there, it was fairly quiet.  The wildlife is plentiful and there are plenty of surrounding areas to explore.  The sunsets are spectacular!

I can imagine we will return here every time we pass through the area.

Small gem along the Green River. Open habitat with cottonwoods and willows. Great birds! And access to river for fishing. Some mosquitos in the evening but not bad. Thoroughly enjoyed our one night stopover here.

Nice little campground off the beaten trail. Still quite popular with at least 10 other groups set up. Popular trout stream runs through the back of the campground. Bird watching was fantastic with dozens of species spotted in one evening.

Very busy, almost all the sites with shade were taken when we visited during the week so we grabbed a spot that unfortunately had A LOT of ants. Windy at the time but we loved the wind considering it was pretty hot. Great spot otherwise. Pretty clean bathrooms and good sized sites! We don’t fish but seemingly great fishing opportunities.

Very remote location with a primitive, yet beautiful campsite. The only services are a couple of bathrooms, which were nice and clean, otherwise you are on your own. There were not marked campsites that we noticed, only some had a fire ring and/or picnic tables. It was right next to the green river, so the mosquitoes were worse than usual. Otherwise a wonderful campsite. First come, first served. No registration or advance notice.

Excellent fishing in the Upper Green River! Campsites are spread out so you aren't on top of other campers. Quite a few campsites and not as busy or crowded as Weeping Rock up river. There is a boat launch area. Pit toilet facilities are cleaner than others. Great place! Don't forget bug spray, especially in army summer.
