    Nice Weekend 🐂

Little family campground off of Rt. 29. Ok location for meeting friends between DC and Richmond, although if you do your research, you could find something better. At the time I went, there was a one-dog limit so one of my friends didn’t stay the night because he couldn’t bring his dog, so that was a bummer.

Standard RV hook-up sites are available. They’ve got the usual: bathhouses, fire ring, picnic table. They were selling local bison at the camp store so we bought some and made burgers. There’s also an Amish market, Yoder’s, just up the road. They have everything you could need, including hot coffee, deli sandwiches (the have the best bread), biscuits and gravy, freshly baked items, bulk goods, a petting zoo and so much more. They’re closed Sundays, so stock up the day before!

Overall we had a good time as we were there to meet friends vs. take in the scenery. If you’re looking for scenery - check out Graves Mill for a hike or hit Skyline Drive for hiking and camping. Madison is a beautiful county.

    Nice and quiet

We actually got a tent site at this RV park (there are only 5) and they are pretty close together in an open area of grass but we are currently the only tent campers here so that’s nice. Honestly I don’t think this place gets many tent campers but it’s really nice. My only complaint is that the streetlight across the way is SUPER bright and It keeps the tent area fairly well lit which might make it hard for some to sleep. Oh and the bathrooms are immaculate! The staff is super friendly and offered us free dinner when we arrived but we got in a bit later than expected. It’s a lovely spot, close to the highway and gas stations as well as a brewery/restaurant. We are only stopping over for the night but I’m super pleased and would definitely stay here again in the future. There are some long term RV spots that have decorated for the holidays and it’s adorable.

Great Escape while still close to civilization

We loved the location of this RV park. We enjoyed our long-term stay. Laundry facilities need to be updated since a majority of the time they were out of commission and the wifi is almost non-existent. The staff is lovely and friendly. Grateful we were able to stay for as long as we did.

Good for a short stay, or long term

We stopped overnight. Site was full hookups and level. Staff was pleasant and offered information on area. Big plus was the brewery. Craft beers well done and all on-site. We had beer tasting and pizza with some friendly long term travel nurses. Fun evening. Traffic noise throughout night is present.

    Not Bad!

Lots of long term residents in dirty rundown campers. Trash dumpsters are always full.

Bathrooms and showers are always clean. Full hookups at most sites. Staff very friendly.

Laundry on site as well. Do not try and come in after dark. Very tight and very dark.

    Americamps RV Resort

    Great RV Resort

We picked Americamps because we were traveling through the Richmond area and it was very convenient to I-95. We usually pass up on RV parks because most are wide open fields with large trailers and/or motor homes parked close together and prefer more private camp spots in out teardrop. But upon our arrival we were happily surprised. Amricamps has mostly full hook up sites (about 2/3 pull through sites and a 1/3 back in) and a small tent area with a handful of sites. While the sites were close together in typical RV park style, they were not scrapping together like we’ve seen at some places and there were many well established trees to provide lots of share instead of being in an open field. All the sites were level, most were gravel, but some were concrete pads. All style sites include a picnic table and fire ring. Hook ups also included cable with about 70 channels.

Check-in was easy and the staff was very helpful. Check-in is at noon, but our road trip got us there about 11:20 and the staff had no problem letting us in early. Thanks! A host guides you to your site and assist you in positioning if needed. The campground is gated and you are provided a gate code. We stayed on site D-08 on this visit. The site was level, gravel, and had good shade.

We used the bathhouse in the main building as it was closest to our site. It was very clean and air-conditioned, which was nice on this warm summer stay. There is a second bathhouse on the property but we did not visit it.

Firewood and a good-sized camp store was available at the office. The resort has many amenities to include a heated pool, fitness center, playground, dog park, laundry, a rally room with a large deck and gas grill, dump station, and propane filling station.

We found good cell phone service with Verizon throughout the property. The campground did have wi-fi and it worked good at our site.

Pro Tip: There is a FREE breakfast every morning in the rally room. The morning we were there they were making waffles, and had bagels, pastries, fruit, and a variety of drinks to include coffee. They also had an ice cream social in the rally room the first night we were there, so watch the bulletin board for cool events like that. Additionally, right across the street (a short walk depending on where your site is in the park) there is a brewery that also serves food.

While we were hesitant to stay at a RV park, we found this place to a pleasant surprise. Very quiet and clean for its size. We’ll definitely keep this one on the list when passing through Richmond.

    Quick Stay

While we only camped here for one night, we enjoyed the park from check in to checkout!

Since we tent camp our site was dry and had no amenities but there were full hook up sites available. Our site was nestled in with the full hook up sites so it was as far away from the bathrooms as possible, not a big deal just something to note.

Since we visited in March, the trees did not have much foliage so the sites were more exposed than I tend to prefer and lots of the campers around left their outside RV lights on all night.

Being in campground A, we were only a short walk to the trail leading to fossil beach which was beautiful!

    Great for Adults

The campground is pretty big and has a wonderful beach with swim access to the lake. Most of the campers are long time seasonal campers, and a lot even live here. The beach is well maintained and campsites are spacious. Pull through options available. The playground is for kids 5+ and there’s not much to do outside of swimming in the lake for 5 and under. People at the lake were friendly but long term campers seemed to want to have nothing to do with anyone. I’d recommend for adults and teens more so than large families with younger kiddos.

    Convenient

Campground is close (ish) to the DC area. It is easy and convenient to get to. Almost all sites are pull through and are close together. Most have some tree cover (and some of the trees could use a trim along the roads). Some long term guests occupy the back sites which have sewer.

Close to Prince William Forest which is a fantastic National Parks forest.

    Att coverage is good.

    Playground is nice.

Great Location for Boaters to Explore the Potomac!

We camped here in a rental while towing our boat. Super nice people, mostly long term sites, with 8 transient sites. They are in an open and mostly flat area.  Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Good boat ramp with slips. Water and electric, no sewage, but there is a pump out truck. Location on the Potomac is great for boaters. Bought a bushel of crabs right off of the boat from Mr. Joe. Many people have golf carts, but not necessary as the campground was very walkable. Highly recommend for boaters, maybe not for others. The site next to the pool is a great one, since you have a large area of grass next to the site.

Well if you need a place?!

Can’t remember our lot # we were a lot away from the gate, it was used a lot and all night long. People working in DC using the campground as their residence, leaving 5ish because of traffic to be encountered. Well hopped up diesel pickups, non-baffled Harley exhausts. Our camper is incredibly quiet so we closed the windows a slept. 60% were long term residents of the campground. Our sight was one of the few semi- isolated.

    Cherry Hill Park

    Awesome Campground near Washington, D.C.

We had another great stay at Cherry Hill Park in College Park, MD.

We stayed in a level pull-thru site(#1715) with picnic table on a paver patio, iron table and chairs, clean gravel surface, grill, and fire pit. The site was just big enough for our motor home and Jeep. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service all worked fine.

If you’re visiting Washington, this is the place to stay. They offer a daily charter bus plus the Metro bus stops at the campground entrance. And if you have a car, it’s about 35-minutes drive time(maybe a bit longer with traffic).

To be honest, it’s a great place to stay even if you’re not visiting D.C. They have two swimming pools, a cafe, playgrounds, well-stocked camp store, delivery of firewood, ice, and cafe orders, and a concierge to help with travel and tourist sites.

The entire park is clean and well-maintained.

    THINGS I ESPECIALLY LIKED:

    1. Proximity to Washington, D.C.

    2. Excellent condition and clean

    3. Great staff to help with making the most of your stay

    Decent family camping here

Decent campground here suitable for campers new and old. Have tent, full hook up RV sites and even cabin sites for the families who just want the comfort of a home. The sites and clean and spacious. The bathrooms are also clean and have hot showers.

The are tons of amenities here. Really great for beginner campers. There a water park type thing here. Hiking, biking, swimming, fishing. Downfall there's a shooting range near by so can be kind of noisy or at least it was the night we were here. Lots of history near by so check out the old battle fields and buildings that housed troops during civil war. Very cool stuff:

    Cheers!

    Americamps RV Resort

    Not Just For RV Campers

The name of this place is a bit deceiving if you find it on one of the many brochures "Americamps RV Resort". I was at first completely discouraged by itself name in fact but went ahead while passing through the area on the way to one of my blog sites to check it out.

Pulling into the location the grounds were very well manicured and looked like a lot of work is regularly being put into the facility. The office was very nice and going inside they were very friendly in telling me a bit about the sites and area. I was then taken on a tour of the park and told a bit more. While they do offer RV sites for both overnight and weekly or monthly stay, they have a constant flow of tent campers, although weekly and monthly rates are not offered for this service.

The tent sites they took me to were padded with lush grass and had very nice picnic tables which looked well maintained. They also had grills which were around waist height. Something which set this tent location apart from others was they have a valet trash service at the park which applies to each site. With this you can place your items out for pick up in the morning and they will do so instead of you having to find a place to discard items.

But the sites were not the only thing that impressed me. The grounds themselves have a fitness facility and pool which are nice, a group gathering area and also a very substantial store. There is a shared grill garden for grilling with a propane grill, a basketball court and dog run area as well. Basically it is a resort without staying in a hotel style room.

Pricing was very fair depending on which amenities you wanted at your site. There were some tent sites with electricity and they were a bit more but base rate for dry camping was $25.

I would definitely return to this site if I was staying here instead of passing though. It is close to so many things and makes a great place for a day or a weekend away. I found it to be only about 10 minutes from the site I was going to and only a short distance from dozens of other exciting things in Richmond.

    TIPS:

    • If you are wanting to stay make sure to call in advance for this one. It is to nice to pass up on making a smart reservation.

    Westmoreland State Park Campground

    Beautiful nature escape!

This is a stunning state park with a gorgeous campground. The whole place seems very well taken care of, with a camp store, visitor center, and discovery/education center for kids.

We are on our way up from South Carolina, so we only stayed a night, but it was wonderful nonetheless. Everything was closed when we arrived, so it was a welcome surprise to have firewood available for sale on an honor system. The roads to the campsites were paved, and we had an easy time finding ours thanks to a prominent sign.

We booked a pull through site with full hook ups, a faux wood picnic table (no splinters,) and fire pit. The site was pretty big, laid with gravel and pebbles, and edged with wooden curbs. We didn’t have any trouble leveling out and hooking up, the connections were in a great spot for our trailer and others on the grounds. The site is in a thicker forest, so bring bug spray, and I found setting out a couple Thermacell mosquito repellants was effective (very little wind that day.) The site had a lot of privacy and the ones around us were spread out nicely as well, some even had two levels with stairs put in. Easily one of the nicest sites we have ever stayed in. The campground has a ravine behind it, something to be cautious about with pets/kids.

The park is on a cliff overlooking the Potomac River, and the Big Meadow trail brings you too Fossil Beach. It’s a sandy beach with lots of rocks and clay, I’m sure I would have found more fossils had I brought a little sifter with me.

We loved it here, it was a beautiful and private campsite with a great park to explore.

They have playgrounds. Everyone is nice. Most of the spots are level. The grounds are well cab. The campground Wi-Fi is decent. We had a fantastic time!

We had a fantastic time our 1st time at #AdventureBoundCampingResort in Lothian, Maryland. While at the campsite, we met a great guy from East Tennessee, Steve, who was in the Air Force, and he was as nice as could be. We had arrived after dark on Friday and Steve came over to offer to help with the tent setup but we wanted to do it all on our own in true “girl power” form! But after rethinking it, we decided to sleep in the car!!!! 😂 Next morning we arose to setup our sitewe had an absolutely wonderful time doing it .That is, until the rain came about 1am Sunday morning! It rained and rained and rained and rained and rained! Not only did it wake us, it started us thinking what we’d do with a WET TENT! I was going to stay another day just to let the tent dry out but, it’s going to rain all day into Monday. And then! My oldest granddaughter felt ill and had to be picked up by her mom! I was left with my two little munchkins, Michaela and Samaijah to take everything down — in the constant rain!!! Well, we decided to head over to Home Depot to get ponchos for us and McDonald’s for their promised pancake breakfast, then headed back to start the task of breaking down our camp site. With the help of my little munchkins, we packed everything up and loaded the car in no time. The only thing left was the wet tent! I decided to forego the folding and just gather it up and put it in a garbage bag just to get us home and out if the rain — that worked for them too!! They did a great job and were a true representation of the saying “little but mighty”! Steve and many of the long term campers were military and construction workers, in addition to senior citizens. Saturday night seems to be the neighbors party night so it was quite lively with music and laughter. This camp has electric and water at each site, clean toilet and shower facilities, playground and pool.

    Beautiful park!

We just stayed one night as we were passing through the area, but we were very impressed by this park. It is huge, but so pretty and clean. There’s multiple bath houses, playgrounds and even pools. There is also a mini golf course and splash park. We were there in the winter, so some things were closed for the season.

The gift shop has just about everything you could possibly want or need. We were able to get souvenirs and also some necessities for our RV.

The bus spots right at the entrance to the park, which is super helpful for getting to downtown DC for sightseeing.

We are already planning our next visit to this park and can’t wait!

    Monroe Bay Marina and Campground

    too many, too close.

    Good Sam recommends this campground?

Location on river/bay is good (hence the two stars).

Bathhouses are in disrepair (lost a star).

River is spilling onto some sites (lost a star).

Too many Mobile homes and campers on top of each other, most old (lost a star).

I wish I had loved it.

    Great Proximity to Richmond

We’re originally from Richmond and needed a centrally located campground to spend 5 weeks in our class A while taking care of some things in town. (We’re full time travelers in our motorhome.) The location is the best in the Richmond area for a full hookup campground for a large RV. It’s right off I-95 and is mostly good size pull through sites. The kids loved the playground and pool area. The staff was friendly and put on some fun events during the time we were there like mimosas on Mother’s Day and a larger race day event with a band and food trucks. It’s a large campground but was surprisingly quiet. Very convenient to restaurants and shopping. Would certainly recommend for a quick overnight stay or if you need to visit Richmond.

    Breezy Point Beach

Great Beach Access - No Shade or Dump Station

We have stayed here twice and will stay here again later this summer; it is the closest campground to our home.  The campground is operated by Calvert County Parks.  Alcohol and pets are prohibited in the day-use area... but are allowed in the campground, so don't let the signs scare you when you first enter.  The reason for the 3-star rating is as follows... I had to mark it down for the loose-sandy sites; yes, I know it is a beach but they really need to firm-up the actual RV parking spots.  Some are worse than others, but it can be a challenge leveling and stabilizers can't get a firm footing, be sure to have some wood or other platform for your stabilizers.  Also, there us no dump statin and the pump-out option is only offered a couple days per week.  Finally, there is no camp store although Breezy Point Market is just a mile or so away.  Okay... none of that should be a deal breaker... the sites are backed right to the Chesapeake Bay and the view and access are priceless.  The day-use folks are not allowed on the camping side of the beach... so, there's plenty of beach space and water space for campers.

    Very Clean

Spent the night here on site E4. It is a level gravel site with full hookups, including cable TV. There is a pool, playground, meeting room, bar and BBQ area, laundry facilities as well as shower rooms. Each site had plenty of room. Ours was a pull through and we didn't have to unhook to fit! The campground is very clean with beautiful landscaping.
