Wildlife sightings and open desert skies draw campers to Bartlett Wash, a dispersed BLM area off Dubinky Road northwest of Moab. The rocky terrain sits in open redrock country with little shade, so sun exposure is a real consideration, especially in warmer months. Cattle roam the area, and reviewers have spotted other wildlife as well. At night, the lack of light pollution makes for clear, unobstructed star-gazing.
Getting here requires attention. The access road off Bartlett Wash Road is rough and rocky in sections, and while at least one camper reports making it in a sedan by going slowly and carefully, the route is better suited to overlanders, high-clearance trucks, and vehicles accustomed to unimproved roads. As Greg L. notes, it's "not for big low RVs." Trailers and large rigs should expect a difficult approach, and cell service is absent once you're in.
Capacity here is limited. Only a handful of groups can spread out across the area at one time, and RVs and trailers tend to claim the flatter spots, leaving tent campers to find positions along the edges. The site has no services of any kind, just open ground, fire rings, and room for pets. Campers wanting a more developed setup nearby can look at BLM Bartlett Flat Camping Area about a mile to the southeast.
