Exposed Views

Beautiful views of the swell. Can be windy. Exposed with no privacy, but other sites are far apart. Can hear highway. Cell service was only one bar with Verizon.

Small camping spot

The road to drive into the camp site is dirt, one lane, uphill. We kept our vehicle in first gear. It's a round a bout on top of the hill. Large enough for two to 4 sites depending on how large the rigs are. Only one fire pit. But the views are absolutely breathtaking.

Great spot

Great spot. Can get windy, but that’s about the same everywhere. The view is fantastic, and very quiet. In the open, but the spots are far so still private. Loved it.

Top of knob "phonebooth"

A short road goes up to a small circle bordered by boulders. This knob functions more as a cell "phonebooth" more than dispersed camping. The primitive two track road goes past boulders along the open low ridge for possible better overland dispersed camping.

Windy but amazing views

Not much space and nobody else here, close to a quiet road, very basic site on top of a small mesa

Frequently Asked Questions

How many camping spots are available at West Temple Road?

The main camping area consists of a roundabout on top of the hill that can accommodate approximately 2-4 sites, depending on the size of your camping setup. Additional dispersed camping spots may be available along the primitive two-track road that extends beyond the main circle. Space is limited, so arriving early during peak seasons is recommended.

What is West Temple Road in Goblin Valley like for camping?

West Temple Road offers primitive camping on top of a small mesa with stunning panoramic views of rock formations and distant buttes. The site features a circular area bordered by boulders at the top of a hill, with a dirt road extending past for additional dispersed camping opportunities. While basic with no developed amenities, the location provides a peaceful, scenic experience with sites spaced far enough apart to maintain some privacy despite the open terrain.

What are the views like from the West Temple Road camping area?

The views are absolutely breathtaking. Being situated on top of a mesa provides panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape, including impressive rock formations, the San Rafael Swell, and distant buttes. This elevated position offers some of the most scenic camping in the area, particularly beautiful during sunrise and sunset.

What amenities are available at West Temple Road camping area?

This is a very basic, undeveloped camping area with minimal amenities. There is only one fire pit in the main circle area. No water, restrooms, tables, or other facilities are provided. Campers should come fully prepared with all necessary supplies including water, food, and waste disposal bags. This is true primitive camping that requires self-sufficiency.

How is the cell phone coverage at West Temple Road?

Cell phone coverage is limited but present. Verizon users report getting one bar of service. The elevated position actually makes this spot function somewhat as a cell "phonebooth" for the area, providing better connectivity than some surrounding locations, though signal strength remains weak. Don't count on reliable service for streaming or video calls.

What's the road access like to West Temple Road camping area?

Access is via a narrow, uphill dirt road that's single-lane in places. The road can be navigated with careful driving, but it's steep enough that keeping your vehicle in first gear is recommended. Four-wheel drive isn't explicitly required but would be beneficial, especially during wet conditions. The road leads to a roundabout on top of a hill where the main camping area is located.

Can RVs or trailers access West Temple Road camping area?

The camping area can accommodate smaller RVs and trailers, but the access road presents challenges. The dirt, uphill, single-lane road requires careful navigation. The roundabout at the top has limited space for 2-4 sites depending on rig size. Larger RVs may struggle with both the road and available space. Smaller trailers and truck campers are better suited for this location.

Is West Temple Road camping area private?

While the camping area is quite exposed with no natural screening between sites, the spots are spaced far enough apart to provide a sense of privacy. You'll likely be visible to other campers, but not right on top of each other. The elevation and openness that creates the spectacular views also means limited shelter from other campers' view.

How is the weather at West Temple Road camping area?

The area can get quite windy due to its elevated, exposed position on top of a mesa. There's very little natural protection from the elements. Be prepared for changing weather conditions and secure your tent and gear properly. Temperature fluctuations between day and night can be significant in this desert environment.

How noisy is it at West Temple Road camping area?

The camping area is generally very quiet, though some highway noise can be heard in the distance. The remote location means minimal human-generated noise beyond fellow campers. The wind can create natural background noise during breezy periods. Overall, it offers a peaceful setting for those seeking quiet relaxation.
