Goblin Valley State Park

Free dispersed camping managed by Goblin Valley State Park provides access to established sites with fire pits between the main park and Little Wild Horse Canyon. The area divides into eastern and western sections, with rough dirt roads that require slow driving but remain passable for larger RVs including Airstreams.

Sites come equipped with existing fire rings, and campers should scout for water runoff channels visible after recent rains to avoid setup in drainage areas. The remote location means no cell service until reaching Temple Mountain Road, though AT&T picks up signal at that junction. Solar power works well here, with spring conditions generating around 2 kilowatts from a modest panel setup.

Road conditions vary significantly and demand patience. Jeremy H. notes the dispersed camping area offers both accessibility and solitude despite the challenging access route. The terrain provides natural alcoves that shelter campers from view of the main road.

Several campgrounds near Hanksville offer developed facilities for those preferring established amenities, while Dispersed Campground - Goblin Valley sits just west for additional free options.

Not free dispersed but beautiful and not expensive

We found a spot easily on Friday afternoon. It was at times very windy, expected and planned for. But windy! No cell. But we got alerts about possible flash flooding. We will be back to this area.

Nice location - but no longer dispersed or free

Still a great spot but this is now a state park campsite $15/night max 2nights as of October 1, 2025. They’ve added picnic tables, campfire grates, toilets at the entrances and some disc golf baskets.

Great views

The kids really enjoyed this location until about 10 in the morning! But it was very secluded and nice and you could see another site from it but no one was there. The roads were very bumpy so we just went slow.

Dark skies certified camping

Run by Goblin Valley SP, the dispersed camping is incredible. It's located between the SP and Little Wild Horse canyon and offers an eastern and western section to camp. The roads are not in the best condition, but was able to get an Airstream into a spot in the western portion of the dispersed camping area without issue (just take it slow). The existing sites being used come with fire pits. While it didn't rain on my trip out there, it's always good to identify spots water runs throughout the campsite-it rained and dried out prior to my arrival, but could make out the channels and avoided setting up in those areas. I relied on solar, and late April sunshine provided about 2kwh off 3-100 watt panels. No service until you get to Temple Mt Rd and Goblin Valley Rd for AT&T. There was a spot somewhere in the SP that had service as well, and they offer WiFi at the visitor center.

Unbelievable scenery

Roads are slow going but doable. The alcove we were able to get was off the road. It felt like we were by ourselves. Very dog friendly. We will be back for sure!

Free dispersed still!

This is the second of three free dispersed on way to little wild horse th. This very rough dirt road has a sign at the start. No services, no cell signal...but it is free. This area used to be BLM but the goblin valley st park was expanded to include this area.
