Top 10+ Equestrian Campgrounds near South Salt Lake, UT

This is not a pull-in campground. This is backcountry access off of the Lame Horse trails. Please use leave no trace and enjoy the backcountry in a responsible manner. We love these areas because the views of the mountains and meadows are breathtaking. You will need to backpack a ways in to find a good place to set up a tent. Just be sure to camp at least 100 feet off the trail. Enjoy responsibly.

This campground has been a friends and family favorite for many years.

My husband and I recently took our toddler and infant here and had a blast. They found joy in simply throwing pebbles in the creek and making mud. Before we had kids, we would bike and hike along the different trails. There’s a short waterfall hike, but also a long hike that will take you up to Ben Lomond Peak & cut across to Willard Peak. Go when there’s no smoke and you’ll have breathtaking views (I’d say May & June are your best bet).

Back to camping: there’s a tiny-creek front, meadow, shaded and unshaded, and a specific area for if you bring horses. You choose what you want.

You can reserve a spot (we did this and were very grateful since we had to keep leaving and coming back). We had service this last time too in July 2021 for the first time (T-Mobile). Hubby was able to work remotely just fine.

This campground was nestled in the middle of Lehi Utah and it was a great place for us to swing in for one night.

This was a beautiful campground. Very nice. I love how it is near a river. You can hear it at night. It's so nice to get to a cool area out of the hot valley and into the cool scenic back country of Utah county. Bathrooms were fresh non out house smelling for sure. Highly recommended.

An inexpensive stay in town near great places like Silicon Slopes, Thanksgiving Point, Utah Lake, Traverse Mountain and centered between Salt Lake and Provo. This is a nice spot along the Jordan River Parkway. The hosts are a little loony, but they stay out of your way if you follow the rules of the park. There are nice tables, boat launch for non-motorized water crafts, bathrooms, and playgrounds.

Utah is such an amazing place to visit for the outdoors. My family and I come here once a year because we love hiking and being in the outdoors. This place was great and provided us a place to stay for a few nights before making the long drive home. There are some great hikes nearby that I highly recommend. We went on a 10 mile round trip hike one of the mornings and the views were incredible. The campground was great, and the campsites were awesome. Each campsite is separated by trees so you feel like you have some privacy which we really loved. There is a great burger joint nearby that I recommend going too. We ate here twice!

I stayed here for three nights (July 7-9 2021) and it was great!! I’m on a road trip to Chicago from California and this was the first place I stayed and I absolutely loved it.

The campsites are hidden but close together which I loved being a solo female traveler it made me feel so safe knowing people were on both sides of me.

The roads are really rough don’t think you’ll be able to do it without 4x4 or awd my Honda CR-V did great!!

One thing though, the camp sites fill up quick my first night was a Wednesday and I got there around 6pm and I found a spot just big enough to park my car for the three nights. It was just off the road and basically no privacy but I was just looking for a safe place to sleep and that’s what I got!

I spent one day exploring salt lake, which is about an hours drive from the campsite. And I spent another day only up near the site, there’s a trail head that leads off to about 3 or 4 different trails I did trail 173 it was 2.5miles and it took you up so you have an amazing elevated view of the mountains and lake and about 2 miles in it leads you to the opposite side of the lake that you drive up next to.

This is blm land so you can stay for free up to 14 days which was a big factor into why I chose to camp here!

Overall I loved it here I totally fell I love with Utah and I can’t wait to stop by on my way home and camp here again!

Oh also if you ride dirt bikes/atvs most of the trails are motor friendly and the lake is a great spot for kayaking!!

Close the to the valley for a quick little getaway! Campgrounds are pretty close to one another but somewhat secluded depending on the spot you get. Parking next to your campground is a plus for me! They have restrooms which is nice! Decent place for a quick trip!

Diana (one of the campground leaders) celebrated her birthday with us while we were Questivaling. Big shoutout to her and co. for saving the day with a last minute site. Clean, big and beautiful.

We stayed with another Questival group and loved it! The owner was very nice and welcoming AND it was her birthday. Had a great time.

We were staying here during the Cotopaxi question and it had great scenery and clean camp grounds!

Tanners flat is a close trip up Little Cottonwood Canyon. NO Dogs allowed in the canyon- it is a watershed. Very popular spot for locals to day trip or weekend trip.

The campground is pretty, but it is not for family camping with a tent. This campground has pull-through areas for people towing camping trailers, but not much for those that want to set up a full-size tent and lounge around outside. The nearby creek is pretty, but you cannot so much as wade in it without facing prosecution and a $1500 fine. I would not camp here again.
