North Fork County Park sits in a canyon above Eden, Utah, where the North Fork of the Ogden River runs through a broad, forested valley in the Wasatch Range. The park is large enough that campers frequently compare it to several campgrounds combined, with distinct areas including creek-front sites, open meadow spots, shaded and unshaded loops, and a dedicated section for horse camping. Reservations are available and worth booking in advance, particularly for sites along the water, which tend to fill by nightfall on summer weekends.
The site variety here is one of the more practical aspects of the park. Jen B. notes the sites "felt pretty private, lots of trees and brush between sites," though she also points out that site 12 at Cutler Flats gets more direct sun than the tree-sheltered spots, making it workable for solar setups. Creek-adjacent sites come with a trade-off: when water levels are high, the current runs fast and loud, which reviewers note effectively drowns out neighboring camp noise. Bathrooms are flush toilets, but bring a light since the facilities can be dark inside.
Hiking and mountain biking give campers plenty to do without leaving the canyon. Trails here connect to the Cold Canyon waterfall route and longer routes up to Ben Lomond Peak, with the option to cut across toward Willard Peak Campground further into the range. Smoke from summer wildfires can obscure the high-elevation views, so May and June tend to offer clearer conditions on the longer ridge routes. Dispersed alternatives like Perry Reservoir Dispersed -- Cache National Forest sit to the northwest for campers who want a less-structured stay.
Cell service is present, at least on T-Mobile, with one reviewer confirming reliable enough signal for remote work in July 2021. The park is county-managed, close enough to town for a supply run, and accepts trailers up to 30 feet at the majority of sites. Campers planning a summer weekend stay should reserve early, particularly for the creek-side spots near the waterfall trailhead.
Description
North Fork Park is a 2600-acre camping and outdoor gem located in Liberty, Utah on the eastern side of the Wasatch Mountain Range. North Fork Park has four qualities that set it apart from many other Dark Sky Parks: urban adjacency, intense focus on wildlife, an extensive outreach program, and innovative public art incorporating dark skies themes. The combination of these characteristics results in a unique dark sky experience for the approximately 2.2 million people living along the adjacent Wasatch Front.
