Lockhart Road Dispersed

Had a great stay in this beautiful area. Quite busy as it's close to the NP and a bit noisy because of the recreation allowed, but it's convenient and again, beautiful. Cell service is pretty much non-existent, but a message may come/go through sporadically. No rhyme or reason.

5 miles from Canyonlands

This location is super conveniently located next to the main road that leads into Canyonlands NP. About 5 miles from the gate. Large spot with fire pit.

It is near the entrance to the area so all cars coming in and out pass bye but it’s still pretty quiet and the views are excellent

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Lockhart Road dispersed camping located?

Lock Hart Road dispersed camping is conveniently located approximately 5 miles from the entrance gate to Canyonlands National Park. It sits adjacent to the main road that leads into the park, making it an excellent basecamp for exploring this spectacular area. The location offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape while providing easy access to the national park's attractions.

Are there any amenities at Lockhart Road dispersed camping sites?

Lock Hart Road offers minimal amenities typical of dispersed camping. Some sites have established fire rings, but you should be prepared for primitive camping with no water, restrooms, or trash services available. The area's main advantage is its proximity to Canyonlands National Park rather than its facilities. Cell service is extremely limited, with messages occasionally going through but no reliable coverage. Bring everything you need, including plenty of water and a way to pack out all waste.

Do I need a 4WD vehicle to access Lockhart Road dispersed camping?

A 4WD vehicle doesn't appear necessary to access Lock Hart Road dispersed camping. The site's location adjacent to the main road leading to Canyonlands National Park suggests reasonable accessibility for most vehicles. The camping area's proximity to the park entrance road (about 5 miles from the gate) indicates it's likely accessible by standard passenger vehicles under normal conditions. However, as with any unpaved areas, road conditions can vary with weather, so checking recent conditions before arrival is advisable.

What are the rules for dispersed camping on Lockhart Road?

While specific regulations aren't detailed, standard BLM dispersed camping rules likely apply at Lock Hart Road. These typically include a 14-day stay limit, camping in previously used sites, properly disposing of waste (pack it in, pack it out), and maintaining appropriate distance from water sources. Fire restrictions may apply seasonally, though existing fire rings indicate fires are permitted when conditions allow. Since this is a recreation area, expect some noise from various activities. Always check current BLM regulations before your visit.
