Ledge E

This was an epic campsite. The most remote of the Ledge sites, with an awesome monolithic rock structure a few hundred feet away. But to access Ledges E and D, there’s a section that has the potential to flood pretty bad. I didn’t know about it, got lucky for my first night. I packed all my gear out with me thankfully. The second night, it was flooded about 50 feet wide, up to 1.5 feet deep or so. Every car turned around (including myself) except a couple 4 wheelers. Think carefully before you choose this one over Ledges A-C, check the potential for flooding. Probably avoid during monsoon season or another stormy season (a local told me May it storms a lot). Also the area that feeds the channel is about 20 miles to the south according to the park officer.

BEWARE YOU WILL HAVE TO FJORD A STREAM TO ACCESS THIS SITE. We saw a 2WD do it in January when the stream was low and had no issues but I don't know what it is like the rest of the year, so worth checking road conditions with BLM before going. Caddy corner to Ledge D, this one is protected from the southerly breeze. It faces East so the sunrise is glorious. In January the larger section on the campground is closed, but there are 2-3 sites by the road with fire rings, picnic tables and level sites. Super close to the Y-Junction for Chicken Corners and Hurrah OHV Trails. Epic spot for an adventure basecamp.
