Great overnight spot close to caverns

Stayed here while seeing the Carlsbad caverns. Great free spot close to whites city with laundry and showers as well as the national park. Close enough to highway where you can see headlights in the distance but you can’t hear the noise at all. Level site, and some spots big enough for big rigs. We stayed in early Feb, and the weather was chilly at night but 50’s during the day. Great spot.

Beautiful spot

Stayed here two night, very close to town and the white sands national park. Lots of spots for all campers, some pre-existing fire rings. I can see where a big rig might have an issue navigating the gate, so if your rig is large check your angles. Wind can get up and since this is a wastewater evaporation lake it can get smelly, also worth noting that you should keep all animals and kids away from the water.

White rim trail. Epic camping.

Permits required. Vault toilets available, no water. Amazing views, access to white rim trail, and some hiking/biking trails to island in the sky.

White Rim Trail camping

Epic views, close to trail head, right off the white rim trail. One vault toilet, no access to water, rough road on the white rim. High clearance 4x4 is necessary, as well as obtaining permits from island in the sky visitor center.

White Rim Trail 4x4 camping

Note you will need high clearance 4x4, dirt bike, or hectic mountain bike to access this site. Permits required from Island in the sky visitor center. Highly sought after camp sites in peak season.

Amazing stay near the OHV trails

Excellent camping near town and the OHV trails in the Sand Flats Recreation area. Note: camping includes the day fee cost, so you do not have to pay for day use and camping. Loops A-E are easily accessible, once you pass that the road turns to dirt and some camp loops recommend 4x4 to access. There are a few straggler campsites close to the road, but they are just that… close to the road. There’s also an overflow campground with 5 slots, but this is limited to 1 nights stay. Loops E-H are on the backside of Fins n’ things trail so some noise could be present.

Candlestick views- unreal

Candlestick campground is gorgeous. The views are breathtaking. The road to access this site is the white rim trail. You will need a permit from the island in the sky visitor center and a camping permit from there or rec.gov. The road is rough, and has some technical aspects to it, so high clearance 4x4 and experiences off road driving is a must. Access to mountain bikers and hikers is available as well. Keep in mind we did this in January. We saw no one else on the trail, or campground but when peak season hits you need to get permits and camping reservations months in advance or win the permit lottery.

White crack, fantastic views

For us, when we did this in January there were no other cars or bikes on the trail, and certainly none in the campground. You will need a permit from the island in the sky visitor center to drive the white rim trail and access this site. The road is very rough and is only suitable for high clearance 4x4 travelers, or mountain bikers/hikers

Great spot right in town

Epic spot for re-supply right in town with hot showers, cabins, pull through sites and propane refill. Texaco Gas station right in front. Street noise a little loud but nothing unbearable.

Ledge E - Right next to the OHV Trailheads

BEWARE YOU WILL HAVE TO FJORD A STREAM TO ACCESS THIS SITE. We saw a 2WD do it in January when the stream was low and had no issues but I don't know what it is like the rest of the year, so worth checking road conditions with BLM before going. Caddy corner to Ledge D, this one is protected from the southerly breeze. It faces East so the sunrise is glorious. In January the larger section on the campground is closed, but there are 2-3 sites by the road with fire rings, picnic tables and level sites. Super close to the Y-Junction for Chicken Corners and Hurrah OHV Trails. Epic spot for an adventure basecamp.

Overlooks a canyon, great views

BEWARE YOU WILL HAVE TO FJORD A RIVER TO ACCESS. We visited in January and the river was flowing but not high enough to cause concern. We saw someone with 2WD go through with no problem but I am not sure what this is like the rest of the year, so worth noting. Ledge D has 8-10 campsites with picnic tables and fire rings overlooking a gorgeous canyon. When the wind blows from the south though, it can be a vortex. One bathroom is available and the Fee station right next door. $20.00 per night, and $10 if you have an interagency pass. BLM and Public Lands Management do an excellent job and keeping these sites tidy.

Close for Winter

This site is closed for winter but many others nearby on either side to choose from. The road gets a little rougher once you pass Ledge B, but is still doable if you take it slow. Each site had picnic tables, and fire rings, no cell service but amazing views all around. Toilets and dumpster available in season. Close to all outdoor activities.

Half open half closed for winter

We drove down Kane Creek Road about 30 minutes, once off the pavement near Kane Creek Campground the road continues on but is dirt. For the most part it is do-able with 2 wheel drive but if you have a van or anything with a high center of gravity take it slow on some of the switchbacks. The first loop was open, with 15-20 sites all with picnic tables and fire rings. Two toilets and dumpsters available as well. Maintained by BLM and Public Land Use they do a really good job! Great area for mountain biking, hiking, petroglyph hunting, and off roading. No cell signal, but who needs it when you have views this beautiful.

Well laid out site near loads of off road tracks

Ledge A was closed for the season when we drove in around late January. From the road the sites look well maintained by BLM and public land use.  Tidy plots of gravel with picnic tables and fire rings, toilets and dumpsters. No cell signal with T-Mobile. Back down the road if you are coming from Moab near Hunter Canyon when the stream is running you might have to fjord the stream so beware of that.

This is going to be so nice, when completed.

This campground is currently under construction but so far it is looking really nice. The sign says it is opening in Spring 2022, and so far they have one site with a picnic table and fire ring. This campground is right off the road but mind you this is a dirt road that won't see too much traffic, at least in the winter. Close to cliffhanger mountain biking spot and many other off road tracks. Close to a stream and loads of birds and wild life around. Very pretty and well done. There was no fee information just yet, but check back with BLM and public lands management. On the South side of the campsite road there is a paved area that looks like when the stream is flowing full force you will have to fjord if you want to carry on down the road.

Not sure if they're expanding or what.

Passed 4-5 different signs saying Kane Creek Campground. One was completely cleared out, and listed as revegetation area. The next was an abandoned riverfront campground and then further down the road you come across an RV park section on the left that is well signmarked with a CLOSED banner over the top. Peeking out from underneath were their rates and even a sign saying that they had canvas teepees for rent. The facilities at the end looked really nice, but closed.. Not sure if its for the season, for moving, or closed forever? Wish we could know, it looks cool.

Actually $25.00 / Night

Great spot, close to the road, trailhead and river with some petroglyphs right there. 4 picnic tables, 1 fire pit and 1 bbq available as well as toilets, and large parking lots. flat sites in canyon for tents. I believe the pricing was $25/ for up to 5 people and an additional $5.00/ camper per night. No cell signal but close enough to town for connection or supplies.

Close to town, right on the river.

$20.00 per night, nice level gravel sites for Tent, RV, Van, or Walk-In sites. Bathrooms, picnic tables, fire pits and dumpsters all right there. Close to the road, but also right on the river. Great spot if you don't want to drive further down the road where the pavement turns to dirt.

Great pull off for the night.

Amazing vista point to look down into capitol reef national park or Torrey. Close to town with great cell signal. Close to National Park. Sadly lots of broken glass close to the entrance, so watch it when you drive in. Pack it in, pack it out people. The further you go in the better the sites get, some with decent wind protection.

Awesome free spot close to trail

Great spot to pull out for the night or more. We stayed 2 nights due to its proximity to town and capitol reef NP. The trailhead is right there, so it’s perfect! Probably 10-15 sites if you look around and get deep towards the hills. Bumpy for the first but off the road but easily accessible for vans and cars alike. One site had an epic rock fire pit that created a perfect little oven on a windy night. Great sunset and sunrise spot, with 2 bars of T-Mobile service.
