With full hookups available year-round and sites arranged in rows across red dirt terrain, Gouldings RV and Campground operates as a private facility within the Navajo Nation. The campground charges $47 for full hookup sites and $29 for dry camping, with an additional $10 dump station fee for those without sewer connections. Reservations are accepted, and the facility stays open through all seasons despite extreme summer heat that can empty the grounds during peak temperatures.
The campground sits in an open field with minimal tree coverage, as Ian H. notes: "Sites are red dirt. Not many trees up this way." Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with views of the surrounding rock formations from most locations. Site 43 drew complaints for being severely unlevel, while corner tent sites away from RV areas provide more space and privacy. Roaming dogs frequent the area, prompting staff to warn campers against leaving shoes outside overnight.
A half-mile hiking trail leads from the campground to a natural arch formation, offering a quick excursion without leaving the property. The facility includes clean restrooms, hot showers, laundry machines (though several may be out of service), a camp store, and an indoor pool. WiFi service proves unreliable according to multiple reviews, while cellular coverage varies by provider with Verizon receiving favorable mentions.
The adjacent Gouldings Lodge complex houses a restaurant, gift shop, museum, and nightly movie theater featuring John Wayne films shot in Monument Valley. Laura M. found the setup "your basic RV park lineup of sites all in a row, but we didn't mind at all, surrounded by such gorgeous scenery." RVs cannot access the Monument Valley scenic loop drive, and the America the Beautiful Pass is not honored for park entry fees.
The campground works well for RV travelers needing full services while exploring the Monument Valley area, though tent campers should request sites away from generator noise and RV activity.
