Horse Canyon Road - Dispersed Open Area

We got in with a 36' fifth wheel but it might be better with smaller. Roads are a bit rough and we caught a few mice during our week here. It was ik for what we needed and 1 mile from a rest area for easy trash dump.

Stopped here on the way from Moab back to SLC. It was an easy side trip from the freeway. There's a rest area with pit toilets and plenty of trash cans at the turnoff onto Horse Canyon Rd., which was a nice bonus!

Personally I thought this place was great for a 1 night stay! So many open options for camping on the road. We drove down a few miles from the bathroom.

Easy to find place to crash for the night on the way to Moab. There are pit toilets at the rest area off the highway then a number of dispersed sites. Very quiet, maybe one other set of campers. Faint highest noise but very nice and relaxing spot.

Not sure if it’s the time of year but we were swarmed with gnats all around us and our rig. It was however a quiet and scenic easy pull off from the highway. Very secluded with half decent dirt/sand roads, just watch where you drive with some larger rocks and broken glass.

This site is pretty sweet! Right off the main road. There are sites closer to the road but I went a bit further to get away from the noise. I didn't see a single other person once I got to my site. Definitely need a bit of clearance but I made it in my Crosstrek. Sunset would have been incredible if the clouds hadn't rolled in. Slept great🤙🏻

Stayed behind the rest area fairly close to the road. No one else here. Nice scenery quiet. Signs of past partying. Little bit of trash I picked up. Other than that I will stay here again.Gorgeous sunset

Spent just one night while in transit to Colorado. Lots of spots for selection. Quiet. Some good views. Spectacular sunsets. Even a double rainbow with some rain.

Dispersed BLM good for boondocking one night while traveling. Small Class C, just watch your approach.

Many spots to choose from, but also a bit sketchy as the town is near and you can hear some noise.

Great location for a night's rest. Unfortunately the area has been abused and there is broken glass and trash everywhere. It's far enough from the highway that you can't hear road noise, but based on the trash and fire pits this area could be quite busy.

Great secluded spot. If you go a mile or so down and take the dirt road to the right you can find tons of camping. Suggest a 4x4 with high clearance. We saw one other camper, but just kept driving to find our own spot.

I stopped in here late one night while traveling, and the location is quiet, not hard to find, and has ample area to be away from anyone else.

Just like the others said a ton of spots just off the highway. Flat and easy to get to.

About 8 spots big enough for a 26’ trailer along the road. This site was about 200 yards off a side road. GREAT place for a sunset.

This is a decent spot if you just want to get off the highway for the night. Plenty of spots to pull off of the paved road to camp. Sedans use caution, as the dirt trails to the camp sites are not the greatest.

Gorgeous views. Very quiet. Lots of fire rings. Take the road past the rest stop and there are plenty of secluded spots off the road. Great spot!

We got tired on the way to Moab, so I found Horse Canyon Road on this app and it looked good for dry camping! Turn into the Horse Canyon Rd rest stop area and just keep driving until you find your type of spot. We stopped about a half mile down the road, lots of places to turn around, and found a mostly flat spot for our Motorhome. You can’t really hear the road, it’s very quiet and gorgeous, with fire rings for if you want to have a fire (fire season permitting). 2 bars of Verizon service.

I kept driving past the map dot and further toward the canyon and as elevation increases, you get a 360 view of the valley below—it’s incredible! Saw no one, but it’s also the middle of winter. 2 bars of at&t cell service!

Nice place with good signal and fire rings. Great sky of stars. We were alone. While we can’t see the highway we can hear it.

To get to this BLM dispersed camping area you just take the "Rest Area" exit from Highway 6 onto Horse Canyon Road. The area we found to camp was about a mile or so down the road on the right side. It's a huge area so plenty of space to dispersed camp and a few fire rings around to use when there are no fire bans. There was no one anywhere near us. Beautiful views for as far as you can see and we had a perfectly clear night. We were lucky enough to be there during the beginning of a meteor shower and saw a few fly across the sky.
