Horse Canyon Road - Dispersed Open Area

Access to Horse Canyon dispersed camping area is straightforward. Take the "Rest Area" exit from Highway 6 onto Horse Canyon Road. The main camping area begins about a half mile to one mile down the road, with numerous spots spreading out along the way. Plenty of pull-offs are available both close to the main road and further in for more seclusion. Just keep driving past the rest stop until you find a suitable spot. The area is quite large, providing ample space for dispersed camping.

Horse Canyon Road offers mixed road conditions that vary depending on how far you venture. The main road is paved initially, transitioning to dirt routes leading to camping sites. While there are spots that can accommodate up to 26-foot trailers, some areas require caution. Sedans should be careful as the dirt trails aren't always in great condition. For deeper exploration, particularly down side roads to the right, a 4x4 vehicle with high clearance is recommended. Small Class C RVs can navigate the area but should watch their approach carefully.

The Horse Canyon area offers spectacular scenic views, especially as you gain elevation. Continuing further toward the canyon rewards you with breathtaking 360-degree vistas of the valley below. The location is known for its stunning sunsets that paint the sky in vibrant colors, and on occasion, you might even witness a double rainbow during rainy weather. The higher elevation points provide incredible panoramic views, making this spot particularly appealing for photographers and nature lovers seeking wide-open landscapes under star-filled night skies.
