San Antonio Alamo KOA

Just outside the San Antonio metro area, this KOA sits on expansive grounds with paved roads and gravel sites spread across multiple sections. The campground connects directly to an eight-mile biking and walking trail along Salado Creek, giving campers immediate access to outdoor recreation without leaving the property.

Sites vary considerably in layout and amenities. Many feature concrete patios with picnic tables, swings, grills, and fire pits, while others offer more basic setups on slightly uneven ground. The campground accommodates everything from tent camping on the outer edges to large RVs in spacious pull-through sites. Multiple shower and restroom buildings serve different areas of the park, with some featuring family shower rooms for added convenience.

The fishing pond supports catch-and-release angling, and the heated swimming pool stays warm enough for winter use. An on-site café serves breakfast, while the pizza counter delivers directly to campsites. Bike rentals let visitors explore the connected trail system and nearby San Antonio Missions National Historic Park. Richard G. notes that "Park and restrooms are extremely clean." The clubhouse provides a central gathering space, and the front office stocks camping supplies and propane.

Traffic noise from surrounding roadways affects some sites more than others, with spaces set back from the main roads experiencing less truck noise. WiFi hubs distributed throughout the park provide reliable internet service for remote work and streaming. The campground operates with security gates and after-hours access codes. Recent bike thefts have prompted management to remind guests about securing belongings overnight.

Downtown San Antonio, including the Alamo and River Walk, sits about 10 minutes away by car. Public bus service runs directly from the campground entrance to downtown attractions. For campers exploring the broader region, Alamo City RV Park provides another option nearby.

Many campers appreciated the exceptional staff service, pristine facilities, and family-friendly amenities at this well-maintained KOA. The majority found sites level and spacious with excellent proximity to San Antonio attractions via public transit. Some noted traffic noise concerns, but most considered it a top-quality campground worth the premium pricing.

ok campground, good location

Nice site at back of lot near walking path. Unfortunately lots of traffic noise even at back of lot due to an interstate nearby (not road in front). Did laundry- good facilities- need quarters. Decided to sit in lounge next door and read. Well a family came in with several children who were loud and running around- then they left the children there by themselves!!! (5, 6 years old) I finally had to use my teacher voice and tell them to quiet down and stop running around. This lounge should be labeled for adults- there are plenty of other spaces for children. My biggest disappointment was there was no hot water in the shower. KOA's are expensive ($100)- how can you not have hot water for the shower!!!! (and yes, I let it run for a long time). They also had nowhere that you could park your RV to take the bus into town (We were leaving that afternoon but with checkout so early we would not get back in time) so we had to drive the RV to the Alamo. There was absolutely NO RV parking downtown.

Everything you need!

This place is amazing! We are only a 10 minute drive from the Riverwalk and the Alamo. About a 15 to 20 minute drive from the missions. Roads are paved lots have nice room! Some lots have a concrete patio that has picnic table swing grill and fire pit. There’s lots to do for families. Nice spacious playground for kids a swimming pool a fishing pond activities in the hole. Which tonight they’re having a Super Bowl party at. There is a small café, a dog park and many other activities like bike rentals. This place has a lot of things to offer in. This will definitely be a place we return!

Really Nice Place!

We loved our 2 night stay here!Campground was immaculate & half full when we arrived in November. We had a site with a large cement pad, a very clean bbq grill, fire pit, round picnic table/chairs & a sliding comfortable patio chair for two! We especially loved the guest area where you could order food and relax with the other guests or take the food back to your campsite. Would love to come back & stay even longer!

Still nice 7 years later

Stopped here a second time, 7 years after our first visit. Still a nice spot for exploring The Alamo, San Antonio Missions, Riverwalk, and more. Bus stop right in front to get to main attractions. Several nice bathrooms/shower buildings. Great walking trail for pets

Taj Mahal of KOAs

Super nice people and place. Started raining hard as we were checking in (tents), so we waited in the TV room, watched the news and ordered a pizza. Bath houses air conditioned. We were initially assigned T-6, but there was a low, overhead power line and we had a roof top tent. When I went to the office, they were very understanding, and put us in T-1. Very helpful with bus information. We were there to tour the Alamo. I would definitely stay there again.

Great for a spot near the city

We came in here after a long day of travel and we’re able to snag a site without a reservation. It’s a koa, so not much privacy to be expected but there was a decent amount of trees and well kept facilities. Would recommend if you’re looking for a place in town!

2015’s KOA of the year

They have a pool, pond for catch and release fishing, bikes to rent to ride on the near by trail, on site pizza available and a breakfast cafe. They were named KOA of the year in 2015 and we see why. They did mention that there have been some recent bike thefts, so be sure to lock up your belongings at night.

Very nice and close to the Alamo/river walk

We called an audible on our trip and spent a couple nights here that we weren’t originally planning on. We were able to get reservations on a day notice, and got a great spot across from the playground (our kids loved) with full hookups. They’ve got a nice little pool, pretty big playground and a fishing hole that is stocked. In a first for us, they had a pizza shop on sight and it was a pretty good pizza. We’re about 10 minutes from the Alamo and we’re able to get there in no time for our reservations there. Other families are here for longer than us, so if you need a stop over for a couple nights or a week long trip, this is a solid pick.

Beautiful grounds close to Downtown SA

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as a Basecamp — grounds that offer a comfortable home base that you’re happy to return to after a day of exploring the surrounding area. Ratings for this category are based on: Value to cost: 5 Overall grounds: 5 Utility of sites (hookups, layout, accessibility): 4 Local Attraction Proximity: 5 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Amenities: 5 Customer Service: 5 Cleanliness: 5

These grounds are massive and beautifully kept. The spacious grounds allow for wider spaces and plenty of room between larger RVs. There are smaller RV spaces, several levels of cabin rentals and tent spaces on the outer edges of the grounds with many different options for hookups available. The park is easily navigable with paved roads and packed gravel spaces. Our space was slightly uneven and did not have the small brick patio of our neighbors, but this was inconsequential to us.

As a KoA Holiday, the amenities are appealing with nice patio spaces, a pool, a stocked catch & release pond, a massive clubhouse with a cafe and lots to explore nearby. The front office has a pretty large marketplace as well as a small pizza/wing counter. The wifi is very decent with hubs scattered across the park, making working from a computer very easy and streaming mostly reliable. They also offer ice for sale, propane AND they have recycling bins near the garbage dumpsters (swoon). We came during one of the coldest winter weather storms in Texas history, so use of the amenities was limited and they had to shut off the water during our stay, but this is not a fault of theirs and they were highly communicative during this time.

The grounds are just 5 miles from the center of San Antonio including the Alamo and Riverwalk. Also, there's a beautiful & long walking and biking trail connected to the grounds, along Salado Creek. The whole park is secure and clean with good security at the front of the park and a code needed to enter the grounds after hours. Upon arrival, the gate will automatically open.

The nearby roadways can get a bit noisy, depending on your space, but many of the sites are set back away from the street, so tractor trailer noise is typically at a minimum.

Bring your bike or rent one from the KoA office to explore the area with all the bike trails nearby, including the trails through all the Historic Missions.

Second time

We stopped here on our way back because we liked it. This time it seemed the weekend crew did not have the same courtesy the weekday crew does. We wanted a cabin because of how cold. We stayed and seemed to be the only in the cabins, but throughout the night cars came in and people hid in the cabin parking areas. Worked for us but was not impressed this time.

RTT across the country

We traveled and lived in an RV for a year. We been to a lot of KOA’s. This is by far one of the best. Like I said we are RTT’n and figure to get a normal tent spot. Nope we got a back in RV spot and when we checked in they gave us a dinner menu which was pizzas to order and a breakfast menu. These meals are an additional cost but great to have offered. They have an 8 mile bike/run trail, a fishing river, and pond. The showers and bathrooms were amazingly clean. They area looks very good and comfortable. We ordered the pizza and they delivered right to our site. We will definitely come back to this one for a longer period of time.

Great facilities, poor internet

We stopped here for one night and the facilities are amazing. The park is huge with every kind of site you might want. Everything was clean and each site had some pretty great fire pits. Unfortunately, it poured rain all night. The rain could have been the reason the internet was slow if everyone else was using it. While the signal appeared strong, the service itself lagged and we stopped trying to use it. We would definitely come back, given the quality of the sites, the access to the trail and activities -- but for the price, I hope they improve their internet.

As far as KOA's go (being hit or miss), this one is a hit! Clean KOA, good place to walk around. Outdoor pool, playground, access to trail.

The only real downside we had was the amount of noise from the surrounding area. LOTS of bass and loud music in middle of the night.

We left our ford 350 in a lot near the Alamo thieves broke in the truck and stole our Garmin and tireminder display . Busted open the safe . Don’t leave a gun in your car. Police said 5 Ford trucks were broken in that day. There are some Homeless people around the parking lot and in the river walk so we wanted to have access to our car. MAybe Uber in to Alamo and river walk better idea. Not a lot of people around the city so parking is wide open .

I know not everyone loves the tent pitching experience so 2 days later ,before heading home, I decided to book a basic cabin to see how it is inside and out. I have to say that it’s a lot of fun for all of us . We didn’t want the kitchen or restroom, still keeping it outdoors kinda, but the restrooms are about a minute or 2 walk, and they have a barbque pit. We just fired up some wood and made some fried bologna sandwiches. 😂 Pool was also open so the kids and wife had a blast!
