Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Wayside, TX

Clean place to stop for the night, while traveling through.  It was a good value in terms of price. Fairly quiet at night.

One item to consider is that the back side of the park, right off the main (busy) road, was not fenced.  So, it may be a consideration if you are traveling with kids, pets or by yourself.  Did feel safe, overall.

If you are looking to soak in nature...Nope. Though it does have a nice pretty lake and some nice cliff backdrops.

If you are looking for quiet...nope

If you are looking for cheap...nope. I booked online for $17 and then had to pay $16 entry fee on top of that. For a primitive campground.

If you are looking for space or privacy...nope. Especially the RVs are crammed tight. We lucked into the biggest spot in the place.

If you are looking for a place to have a party/gathering in a nice outdoor spot, this could be your place. Dogs running around. ATVs about. Ice Cream trucks and vendors selling roasted corn. Quiet hours that don’t start until 11 pm. Live music and stereos playing music of all types. Kids running, screaming and scootering through every camp site.

If you are looking for that - and there isn’t anything wrong with it if you are - this is a good spot.

And if you are looking for that, I don’t think you will find nicer people. Everyone has been super friendly and meeting folks has actually been my favorite thing about this spot.

My friend and I camped our way from CA to Austin and was heading back home. We chose Lubbock area to stop for the night. Buffalo Springs campground was the only nearby place I found to camp. I called them and was told that I had to register online. I was surprised to pay a total of $60 for a camp site. It cost $25 for a tent site plus $5 fee plus $15/adult just to get into the gate. What a rip off! It was split between the two of us so it didn't seem too terrible but...when we drove to our site, there wasn't a shade structure or picnic table in our assigned site. We were told to go online for any changes. I couldn't figure out how to do that and since we were the only campers there, we moved to another site. Fire rings, shade structures, picnic tables and little pieces of trash were randomly spread out everywhere! This was the most unorganized, run down place to tent camp I have ever seen! My dog kept finding bones tossed about on the ground. There were cigarette butts everywhere. We even found a vintage beer pull tab amongst other trashy little things. This was the only tent camping place that I was not happy with the whole 3,600 mile drive!

We just stopped for a night while heading south across Texas. Very easy access off the interstate. It is your typical RV park with full hookups. Sites are close together in the traditional manner.

Check in was a snap as all out paperwork was in an envelope taped to the office door. The price is fair for what you get.

About 2/3rd of the park are filled with RVs that don't move very often but that's fine. None of the full timers were run down. Most were like new and the park was well kept and clean. The full timers were friendly and quiet.

The only drawback was the noise from the interstate and occasional plane overhead. We are from a very rural area so we are not used to urban noise. That said, I would stay again if in the area.

New RV park nestled among the trees which is a rare find in this area! Great amenities such as heated pool, laundry facilities, workout facilities and family area. Large concrete roads, concrete pads and concrete patios. Friendly and helpful staff!

This is NOT a resort or retreat! Yes the staff was nice(not helpful though) and the concrete pads, gym, laundry, and store are nice and the pool was clean. However, the Wifi only works in the lodge, cable cut, cockroaches in the water bay, pool not heated, no picnic benches, no showers& SUPER noisy from the road!

We enjoyed our stay at the Retreat. The concrete pads made set up so nice and easy! The trees are so nice to find in Lubbock during the summer. The swimming pool looked so inviting, but our schedule didn’t allow our use. I could hear some traffic noise, but we are in a city. I had forgotten how nice it was to wake up to so many bird sounds! Overall I would recommend and we plan on staying there again!

Impressed by what this place had to offer! Nice pool area, laundry room, and decent little gym. The only downside is the location as far as pulling into the park itself is right off of an interstate and is a pretty tight turn off a somewhat busy road. All in all would stay again!

Stayed here for our first time. The site we were out was extremely uneven. Missing chunks of pavement. If you’re going to charge $40/night make sure to maintain the sites to those standards not $10/nught standardsz

We like to stop and stay at this campground when traveling to/from colorado. It has a really pretty lake good for fishing and walking. We've been lucky it's never been crowded but word has it that this is a party spot on holiday weekends. It's also very expensive for what we're used to, at $30 night plus $11 per adult per day... Totaling $55 for 2 people for a night!

I read up on this park and planned it into my route based on everything I read. It looked like a nice place. Nothing I read indicated a reservation was required. It did look a little pricey for a campground but still cheaper than a hotel. I arrived early enough to set camp before dark. Got to the gate and was told if I did not have a reservation, I could not enter. I was on a motorcycle/trike. They claimed they were absolutely booked and had no room for a tent. Yet there was a lot of vehicles in line behind me. I watched and those vehicles were all allowed in. I feel this park is not motorcycle friendly. Not very welcoming to travelers. I then drove into Lubbock and got a hotel for twice the price of camping. Not happy. Very disappointed in this place. Not hospitable to long-distance travelers. I do not recommend this place. I will never bother to visit this park again.
