Best RV Parks & Resorts near Mission, TX

Mission and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley area contain several RV-specific parks catering to winter travelers. Bluebonnet RV Resort provides concrete pads with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, accommodating larger rigs in a well-maintained setting. "Nice slabs, great hook ups, friendly staff," noted one visitor about Bluebonnet. Split Rail RV Park & Resort, a 55+ community, also offers full hookup sites with similar amenities, while Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort features a unique hub-and-spoke circle design that creates ample maneuvering space for big rigs. Mission West RV Park and Americana RV Resort round out the options, both catering to larger vehicles with 50-amp service and sewer connections.

Most RV parks in the Mission area remain open year-round, with peak season occurring during winter months when northern travelers (often called "Winter Texans") migrate to the region. Full hookup sites typically include 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections, with dump stations available at select locations. Cellular service is generally reliable throughout the area. Many parks enforce age restrictions as 55+ communities, particularly those marketing to seasonal residents. A visitor to Bentsen Palm Village noted, "Their unique hub-and-spoke circle design allows ample space to maneuver even the biggest RVs." Pet policies vary by location, with several parks offering designated dog areas. Proximity to South Padre Island (approximately one hour away) and the Mexican border makes this region popular for extended winter stays.

    Encore Sunshine

    Nice amenities, quiet for off-season

We stayed here a month in April 2019. We originally were going to stay two weeks, but we extended due to the great birding in the area. It was off-season and the park was very quiet. Many times, it felt like we had to place to ourselves. We are not 55+, but according to the office staff they are an 80/20 park so up to 20% of occupants can be less than 55. They do, however, restrict people with kids. Doesn’t hurt to call and ask if you are interested in staying. The park has many amenities, including, mail room, pool, spa, showers, laundry, pickle ball courts, horseshoe courts, and shuffleboard courts.  Many of the occupants are full-time residents or winter-only with permanent structures, but they had numerous sites available for short-time stays. Our site was nice and level and we had full hook-up. The staff was very nice and accommodated our last-minute stay and our change to a monthly visit. This was a great spot for us because we were close to many good birding spots. Estero Llano, South Padre Island, Santa Ana, Hugh Ramsey Park, and Laguna Atascosa NWR are within an hour drive. The park is also close to grocery and other stores. Nearby is everything you need. As I said, the park was quiet, but there is a train nearby that would come through in the early morning sometimes which was annoying. The park was well maintained, but there were some potholes that need to be fixed. They were doing some sewer pipe construction when we were there, so hopefully some of those roads will be patched. The price for a month stay plus electricity was reasonable. It was starting to get a bit warm while we were there, but they do have a nice breeze most of the time, so mosquitoes were not an issue. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will stay here again.

    Llano Grande Lake Park Resort

    Nice over 55 RV Park!

Llano Grande was a nice park and we enjoyed our stay there, but it sounded lime there were some issues with pools being heated and communication on events. We dont really use ammenities, so didnt affect us, but could hear grumbling among guests. We had a nice pull thru site, level and plenty long and were close to the laundryroom/pool. Everyone had a golf cart and it was nice to see all the activity going on. There is a big canal behind the park with a levy you can walk on, a nice rec room, a shuffleboard area, horseshoe area, three pools, pickleball courts, a golf course and very nice people. I was bummed that it was so far from the beach. There is a bird viewing state park near, costco and walmart were fairly close and South Padre Island was about an hour away.

    The Fig Tree RV Resort

    Friendly atmosophere

I stayed here for February and March while visiting my aunt, who snow birds at Fig Tree. While it’s marketed as a 55+ community, they do allow a small portion of spots to be booked by younger singles or couples (I don’t think they would allow families with children, however). They have a wide array of events weekly that can be fun to attend, and the residents and staff are kind and enjoyable. The park is clean but could use some upgrades/fixing up (a fence needs to be replaced, 1-2 washer/dryers are usually out of order, the gate was broken during my stay, etc), but they are actively working on improvements. Pets are welcome, it’s about 45 minutes from South Padre, and great for day trips into Mexico.

Don’t count on their WiFi working (it is also not secured), but I did have great service with Verizon and good service with AT&T.

Overall, I would definitely consider coming back next winter.

    Encore Lakewood

    Very Pet Friendly. Great amenities

If you are near the border and are looking for a great place for your furry companion, Lakewood RV Resort is a great stop.  It's near South Padre Island, and the border. If you're looking for a location where you can stay and experience nice amenities though, this is great for that as well.

Don't expect rustic or run down locations here. Full RV hookups, pools, billiards, and outdoor activities for all ages, but especially seniors. I can't recommend this place enough!
