Black Hills National Forest manages this dispersed site along a forest road outside Hill City, where road conditions are the deciding factor for most campers. The road runs rutted and rough enough that low-clearance vehicles have turned back within a quarter mile. High-clearance four-wheel-drive rigs can push a mile or more in, where at least one site offers a pull-through layout on level ground and two bars of Verizon signal. A pull-through spot sits just off Highway 16 for those unwilling to risk the road. If the access conditions match your rig, the site rewards with open views and low traffic.
