Best Cabin Camping near Malvern, OH

Atwood Lake Park Campground and Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA offer cabin options within 30 miles of Malvern. Atwood Lake features full-service cabins with electricity, bathrooms, and kitchen facilities, while KOA provides deluxe cabins with multiple bedrooms, private bathrooms, and kitchenettes. West Branch State Park also maintains cabin accommodations with varying levels of furnishing. Most cabins include beds, tables, and basic kitchen amenities, with deluxe options adding private bathrooms and enhanced furnishings. "We had a cozy cabin with 2 bathrooms. We also had a small kitchen where we could cook when we didn't want to cook over the fire," noted one visitor about their KOA cabin experience.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Basic cabins typically feature electricity and sleeping platforms, while premium options include multi-room layouts with furnished living spaces. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park near Akron/Canton provides family-oriented cabin accommodations, though some visitors note limitations: "The bunk beds have very thin rv style mattresses. And the master bed mattress was a weak memory foam." Booking patterns show high demand during summer months, with many facilities requiring reservations up to six months in advance. Most KOA-style cabins allow pets, while state park cabins often have more restrictive pet policies.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. While deluxe options may provide linens seasonally, standard practice is for guests to bring bedding. Basic kitchen supplies like refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee makers are common in premium cabins, though availability varies by location. On-site camp stores at locations like Atwood Lake and Salem-Lisbon KOA sell essentials including firewood, ice, and basic food items. For extended stays, the towns of Carrollton, Minerva, and Canton provide full grocery options within reasonable driving distance. According to one review, some locations host convenient services: "The camp store has most camping needs in it and once a week they host an ice cream social."

    Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA

    A Traditional KOA Experience

This was a Fall camping experience in a cabin as we knew it would be cold in the evenings.  We also had a non-camper with us so this was a nice compromise.  We had a cozy cabin with 2 bathrooms.  We also had a small kitchen where we could cook when we didn't want to cook over the fire.  This was another way for us to social distance as COVID-19 was still an issue.

I also took photos of the camping bathrooms as each KOA does it a little differently. You will notice that the bathroom is unisex.  It is a single bathroom (toilet and shower).  This is in the center of the campground.  The bathroom photos below are not of the cabin.

The cabin you see here is the Deluxe. "Deluxe Cabin(More than two Bathrooms), Patio Deluxe Cabin(w/ Bathroom)- Evergreen KL8-9-10 Perfect for large family or two couples with two queen bedrooms, sleeping loft, 1 1/2 baths, kitchenette, 3 tvs located in quiet corner with shade trees. Sorry, Not Pet Friendly! Linens are included in all seasons except Winter. Please bring pool towels." Taken from Reservation Email.

For 2 nights it totaled $153.00 which is a good price compared to other cabins we were looking at within the region.  We could have had others camping in the tent section of the campground so it is an easy way to have a mixed crowd for a camping outing.

I did type in some information into the Special Requests within my reservation booking online, as I had a question about who had to pick up the key as a friend lived closer.  No one responded and I had to call them.

Cabins Check in is at 3PM and Check out is at 12 PM

We were able to buy firewood from the KOA camp office. They bring it to your campsite and we were able to grill hotdogs and other food items on our camp fire.  Do read the general information closely and look at number 15 for a free scoop of ice cream.

https://www.whitehousefruitfarm.com/donuts  We did a donut run and explored the farm for our outing for the day.

We also spent the day checking out a local mill https://www.millcreekmetroparks.org/visit/places/mill-creek-park/lantermans-mill/

    West Branch State Park Campground

Well kept campground with access to beach and dock

Each campsite in on a leveled cement pad and comes with a fire ring a picnic table. There is plenty of room around your site and you don't feel crowded. Most sites offer nice tree coverage for shade. The restrooms and showers are very clean and well taken care of. There is also a laundry facility and sink outside each one for washing dishes and water fountains throughout the park. There is a nice beachfront for swimming and then a dock that be reached from outside the park. A beautiful lake for kayaking or boating. The store has most camping needs in it and once a week they host an ice cream social. Has a very nice playground and a sand volleyball court. There are some hiking trails, but nothing extensive.

    Roundup Lake RV Resort

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

    Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

    Pet friendly campsite, with electric

While most of the campgrounds in the park are no pets- there are 2 loops that allow your furry companions! Loop F includes electric spots! Loved seeing the 'neighbors' dogs get excited and curious when I walked my 4-legged best friend around the site. Clean area , close to a modern bathroom (a few stalls & even 2 showers!) Looking forward to going back at the end of the month.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Wooded Waterside Sites

Make reservations! (6 months in advance).  Waterside sites fill up quickly! Check in is very easy as you pass the camp store on your way in. All campsites have a fire ring and picnic table.  West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days. The park office loans games and sports equipment to campers. Washers and dryers are also at the shower house. There is an outside sink to wash up dishes. Bring your boat or kayak. There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake. There is a boat launch at the campground.  There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend. There is a newer dog park near the intersection of Rock Spring  and Esworthy roads. There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd. West Branch is our favorite campground and we make sure to visit every year.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

    Salt Fork State Park Campground

    My Go-to Weekend Getaway

Saltfork is located about 45 minutes from my house, and makes for the perfect overnight trip.

There are tons of things to do, and lots of space in which to do them. My favorites includes hiking trails, and the lakeside dog park.

I stay in the primitive camping, it allows for more privacy and quiet. Although it also means you are relegated to the pit toilets. I personally don't mind them, but I know some campers will make the drive to the nicer shower house in the RV heavy side of the park.

Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, the fire rings in the primitive section need some work, as the grates are very old and small.

    Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

    Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

    Atwood Lake Park Campground

    Incredible!

The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio! We’ve visited the Atwood region many times in the past but have never camped - but after this visit we’ll be back for sure. The campground is relatively new, with the campground area being completely revamped beginning in 2017. There are two overnight camping areas with seasonal sites in a separate section; we stayed in “Camp H” which is the newest area. There is a huge bathhouse with two sets of men’s and women’s restrooms and shower facilities along with a very nice laundry area. Adjoining the bathhouse area is a beautiful pavilion and children’s playground - all of which overlooks Atwood Lake. The campsites are nicely spaced though if you’re in the inner loop as we were or even some of the outer ring sites you’ll be looking right into your neighbor’s site. All sites are FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring. If needed there are two very well equipped dump stations if you prefer to use them instead of the sewer connection at your site. Many sites are on cul de sacs directly on the lake with docks and fishing areas adjacent to the campsites. Lots of hiking trails, paved bike paths, a swimming beach and restaurant are in a nearby area. We loved the campground and will return soon!

Guide to Malvern

Cabins near Malvern, Ohio offer comfortable accommodations within the rolling hills of eastern Ohio, where elevations range from 1,000 to 1,200 feet. Located between Atwood and Leesville Lakes, Malvern's cabin rentals experience seasonal temperature variations with summer highs around 83°F and winter lows frequently below freezing. Most cabin facilities in this region remain open from April through October, with limited winter availability.

What to do

Beach activities: At Atwood Lake Park Campground, visitors can enjoy a designated swimming area with lifeguards during summer months. "The beach was awesome... sandy all the way out. Concession stand is nice by beach too," notes one camper, who also mentions the convenient paved trails for biking or walking.

Fishing opportunities: West Branch State Park Campground offers excellent fishing access directly from waterside sites. According to one visitor: "Great site! Shades lots of space semi private area. Right off the water with area to tie boat for easy water access." The park's multiple lake inlets create prime fishing spots for bass and crappie.

Disc golf courses: Clay's Resort Jellystone Park maintains an on-site disc golf course among its numerous amenities. "We decided to stay after plenty of referrals from friends and family. Pleasantly surprised with how clean everything was," mentions a recent visitor who enjoyed the various recreational facilities.

Trail exploration: Several cabin properties connect to hiking paths through hardwood forests. Many trails are suitable for all skill levels and most are under three miles round-trip. "There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd," shares one regular visitor who returns to the park annually.

What campers like

Private bathrooms: The deluxe cabins at Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA feature in-cabin bathroom facilities, which guests particularly appreciate. One reviewer specifically mentioned, "This was a Fall camping experience in a cabin as we knew it would be cold in the evenings. We had a cozy cabin with 2 bathrooms. We also had a small kitchen where we could cook when we didn't want to cook over the fire."

Waterfront sites: Premium cabin locations at Atwood Lake Park Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist offer direct lake access. A camper noted, "Overall we had fun there and made best of it. Many sites here are new and amidst a concrete jungle. Pads w small decorative newly planted plants... We did search out best spots here and they're at the tip of the peninsula. Largest lots I saw AND there right on the water!!"

Year-round availability: Some cabin facilities remain open during winter months, providing off-season options. A winter visitor to Salem-Lisbon KOA shared: "This was an awesome place for a winter trip! The tent sites were big and right on the lake. Everyone was so kind!"

Recreation amenities: Woods Tall Timber Resort provides extensive recreational facilities that enhance cabin stays. "WTTR is our families favorite place to be during camping season in Ohio. It has everything you can imagine, it's safe and CLEAN! We couldn't recommend a resort more than this one," states an enthusiastic reviewer.

What you should know

Site differences: Cabin quality and amenities vary widely between parks. At Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park- Akron/Canton, one visitor observed: "Overall we had a nice trip but the bathroom facilities made tent and popup camping pretty difficult." This highlights the importance of researching specific cabin features before booking.

Water quality concerns: Some cabin locations experience water quality issues. A Jellystone visitor mentioned: "The water situation was equally disturbing. The water smelled horrible, and both the shower head and faucet were caked with scum. My kids begged not to have to take a shower because of the smell."

Seasonal crowds: Summer months bring higher attendance, especially at parks with water features. "The lake was over crowded to the point that they ran out of life jackets, which are required to swim, so we sat," reported a Clay's Resort visitor, adding that "day pass users received all the privileges of campers."

Reservation requirements: For prime cabin locations, especially waterfront sites, advance planning is essential. A West Branch regular advises: "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!" Many parks use online reservation systems with booking windows opening exactly six months before arrival dates.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Canton/East Sparta KOA Holiday - Bear Creek Ranch offers specialized family activities including horseback riding. A return visitor notes, "This is our favorite KOA! I have 4 kids and return at least 1x per year. Great family owned KOA. Horseback riding on site."

Playground access: Multiple cabins are situated near play areas for convenient supervision. Atwood Lake features "several playground areas for the children," and one visitor mentioned that "kids love the playgrounds and being able to bike or scoot all around."

Ice cream socials: Weekend treats are available at several parks during summer. A West Branch visitor shared, "An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend."

Age-appropriate amenities: Different parks cater to various age groups. Jellystone Park specializes in younger children with character visits, while others offer teen-friendly activities. "Many activities for kids including mini golf, 2 playground areas and a water park. Although the water park and mini golf are open to public, they were not overly crowded," notes one Jellystone visitor.

Tips from RVers

Full hookup locations: West Branch State Park cabins can be reserved near full hookup areas for those traveling with both RVs and non-RVing family members. "We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean," mentions a regular visitor.

Level site selection: Pay attention to site descriptions when booking cabin/RV combination stays. "Severe Sloping Site Won't Keep Us From Having Fun" begins one West Branch review, which continues: "Our site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke. We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches."

Dump station facilities: Cabin guests with accompanying RVs should note dump station locations and policies. One visitor to Jellystone mentioned: "Stopped by to use black water dump upon arriving home from Arizona. Super clean, tidy, and lots of family activities to be had. Price to use dump facility was very reasonable and very convenient."
