Best Cabin Camping near Macedonia, OH

Several cabin accommodations operate in the vicinity of Macedonia, Ohio, offering both basic and upscale lodging options within established campgrounds. Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA provides cabin rentals with electricity and indoor amenities, while West Branch State Park Campground offers more rustic cabin options near water recreation areas. "The family rented a cabin and it was disgusting. Dirty furniture-dishes-run down. Toilet looked like someone died in it," noted one visitor to the Streetsboro KOA, though other campgrounds maintain higher cleanliness standards. Woodside Lake Park and Roundup Lake RV Resort also offer cabin accommodations with varying levels of furnishings and proximity to recreational activities.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. KOA-style cabins typically include beds, electricity, and basic furniture, while state park cabins may offer more primitive accommodations. Reservations are essential during peak summer months from May through October, when most campgrounds operate at full capacity. Pet policies vary by location, with KOA and private campgrounds generally allowing pets in select cabins for additional fees. According to one visitor, "We were able to get a group site with friends along a wooded section," though cabin availability for larger groups may be limited.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities range from none in basic cabins to small refrigerators and microwaves in deluxe units. Campground stores at KOA and Woodside Lake Park stock essential items, firewood, and some grocery basics. The Streetsboro KOA features "a gift shop/store with scoop ice cream and fudge," as one camper noted. Furnished cabins typically provide mattresses, tables, and chairs, but specific amenities vary widely between campgrounds. Visitors planning extended stays should verify what supplies are provided before arrival.

    Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA

    A Traditional KOA Experience

This was a Fall camping experience in a cabin as we knew it would be cold in the evenings.  We also had a non-camper with us so this was a nice compromise.  We had a cozy cabin with 2 bathrooms.  We also had a small kitchen where we could cook when we didn't want to cook over the fire.  This was another way for us to social distance as COVID-19 was still an issue.

I also took photos of the camping bathrooms as each KOA does it a little differently. You will notice that the bathroom is unisex.  It is a single bathroom (toilet and shower).  This is in the center of the campground.  The bathroom photos below are not of the cabin.

The cabin you see here is the Deluxe. "Deluxe Cabin(More than two Bathrooms), Patio Deluxe Cabin(w/ Bathroom)- Evergreen KL8-9-10 Perfect for large family or two couples with two queen bedrooms, sleeping loft, 1 1/2 baths, kitchenette, 3 tvs located in quiet corner with shade trees. Sorry, Not Pet Friendly! Linens are included in all seasons except Winter. Please bring pool towels." Taken from Reservation Email.

For 2 nights it totaled $153.00 which is a good price compared to other cabins we were looking at within the region.  We could have had others camping in the tent section of the campground so it is an easy way to have a mixed crowd for a camping outing.

I did type in some information into the Special Requests within my reservation booking online, as I had a question about who had to pick up the key as a friend lived closer.  No one responded and I had to call them.

Cabins Check in is at 3PM and Check out is at 12 PM

We were able to buy firewood from the KOA camp office. They bring it to your campsite and we were able to grill hotdogs and other food items on our camp fire.  Do read the general information closely and look at number 15 for a free scoop of ice cream.

https://www.whitehousefruitfarm.com/donuts  We did a donut run and explored the farm for our outing for the day.

We also spent the day checking out a local mill https://www.millcreekmetroparks.org/visit/places/mill-creek-park/lantermans-mill/

    West Branch State Park Campground

Well kept campground with access to beach and dock

Each campsite in on a leveled cement pad and comes with a fire ring a picnic table. There is plenty of room around your site and you don't feel crowded. Most sites offer nice tree coverage for shade. The restrooms and showers are very clean and well taken care of. There is also a laundry facility and sink outside each one for washing dishes and water fountains throughout the park. There is a nice beachfront for swimming and then a dock that be reached from outside the park. A beautiful lake for kayaking or boating. The store has most camping needs in it and once a week they host an ice cream social. Has a very nice playground and a sand volleyball court. There are some hiking trails, but nothing extensive.

    Roundup Lake RV Resort

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake

It's Easy to Love this Campground

As newbies to all things RV, we needed a place in Ohio to break in our new travel trailer. Indian Creek is family and pet friendly with all the amenities and even a great lookout spot across the street where you can take in a Lake Erie sunset. We loved the clean bathrooms and appreciated the staff's effort to maintain services while encouraging social distancing. All of their COVID-19 policies were well spelled out online and in signage across the resort so that you knew what to expect. All of the staff wore masks and bathrooms were cleaned often. Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program. We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The only thing that threw us off was that the bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them. The resort is expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow. We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded. The fire ring was so easy to cook on that now I'm spoiled! The camp store/gas station was convenient and well stocked with camping supplies. Golf carts are available to rent if you need them to navigate this huge park. We rode our bikes instead. There is a township park just down the road towards Geneva-on-the-Lake proper that we used to spend some leisure and exercise time near the lake. We look forward to visiting this RV resort again in the future!

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Wooded Waterside Sites

Make reservations! (6 months in advance).  Waterside sites fill up quickly! Check in is very easy as you pass the camp store on your way in. All campsites have a fire ring and picnic table.  West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days. The park office loans games and sports equipment to campers. Washers and dryers are also at the shower house. There is an outside sink to wash up dishes. Bring your boat or kayak. There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake. There is a boat launch at the campground.  There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend. There is a newer dog park near the intersection of Rock Spring  and Esworthy roads. There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd. West Branch is our favorite campground and we make sure to visit every year.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

    Cabins could be better

The bunk beds have very thin rv style bunk bed mattresses. And the master bed mattress was a weak memory foam. Needs to invest in better mattresses.

Guide to Macedonia

Cabin accommodations near Macedonia, Ohio range from basic to upscale options with various amenities and booking requirements. Located in northeast Ohio with an elevation around 1,100 feet, the area experiences four distinct seasons with mild summers and cold winters. Most cabin rentals operate from spring through fall with limited winter availability.

What to do

Waterfront recreation: West Branch State Park Campground offers direct water access for cabin guests. "Great site! Shades lots of space semi private area. Right off the water with area to tie boat for easy water access," notes one visitor to West Branch State Park Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple lakes surrounding cabin rentals provide fishing options. Maple Lakes Campground features "fishing lakes with lovely benches" according to a visitor who appreciated the "beautiful surroundings" at Maple Lakes Campground.

Winter activities: While most cabins close for winter, some remain open year-round. West Branch State Park offers winter hiking trails when most cabin facilities shut down for the season. "The park itself is kept clean and if you avoid the bathrooms in the busiest area then those are pretty clean as well," reports one winter visitor.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Cabin guests frequently mention cleanliness as a priority. At Countryside Campground, visitors note the well-maintained grounds: "Clean campground, lots to do! Dog friendly! Lake Accessible. We stayed a few nights on Tent site 4 and had a blast!" according to a review of Countryside Campground.

Evening entertainment: Some cabin sites offer organized activities. Findley State Park provides a relaxed atmosphere where "many musicians set up camp and would jam out for some live evening music!" as one camper at Findley State Park Campground reported.

Proximity to attractions: Cabins serve as convenient bases for regional exploration. "We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both," notes a visitor about the location advantages of cabin accommodations in the area.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Advanced booking is essential for cabin rentals. For Findley State Park, "If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance," warns a recent visitor about the competition for cabin accommodations.

Water quality concerns: Some properties have untreated well water. At Roundup Lake RV Resort, visitors should note that cabins connect to the same water system as campsites. A camper mentioned, "We stayed in a 33' TT in a pull through site. Sites are close but shady and large enough for trailer and our truck," reflecting the compact nature of the property where cabins are located at Roundup Lake RV Resort.

Site selection matters: Cabin locations vary widely in privacy and amenities. "To much hassle. I will definitely come back but not to site 190," advised one West Branch visitor about nearby cabin sites, highlighting the importance of researching specific cabin locations before booking.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Many cabin properties offer recreational facilities. American Wilderness Campground provides "beautiful clean serene park with absolutely stunning beach views at sunset," according to a family visitor who added, "we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining" at American Wilderness Campground.

Playground access: For families with younger children, on-site playgrounds prove valuable. Countryside Campground offers a "playground, big open area and a nice pool!" that was "a hit for our 8yr and under kids" according to a family cabin visitor.

Organized activities: Some cabin sites schedule regular family events. Jellystone Park offers "tons of planned activities (about every hour) for everyone to enjoy" including "mini golf, gem mine, and homemade ice cream" according to a family staying at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™- Akron/Canton.

Tips from RVers

Cabin alternatives: RVers sometimes book cabins when maintenance is needed. "We were in the area for medical visits in Cleveland. This spot was convenient and a great location to do a little sightseeing," noted a traveler about using cabins instead of their RV during service appointments.

Site grading concerns: Many cabin sites share the same terrain challenges as RV sites. "Our site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke. We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches," warned a West Branch visitor about ground conditions that affect both cabin foundations and RV setups.

Winter accessibility: Most cabin access roads remain open year-round but may not be plowed. "On first impression we were not impressed with this park. First the water fill is on an incline," noted a visitor about winter conditions that can affect both cabin and RV access during colder months.
