    Really nice place!

Such a nice and clean campground! The sites are pretty big so you can move around easily and there are tons of trails you can check out as well and water access. Campground host was very nice too!

    Nice for groups

I came here with a large group and really liked it! We were all at crammed into the 4 large group sites so I admittedly can’t comment on the size of a regular site. However the bath houses were adequate. The staff was helpful. And the trails were nice. I wish I would have explored the park a little more as well as the surrounding area. But nice little get away.

Small, quiet and relaxed among the pines

Our stay in Site #4 on February 25 in our 20' Mode LT was quiet and restful.  The park has an interesting geomorphology, sitting atop cliffs overlooking the river below, and there are miles of hiking trails.  The Campground Host was particularly helpful, checking us in when we arrived early.  Unlike many  state parks they offer their Senior Discount to out-of-state campers.  The campground is very clean and sites are very large with gravel pads, but only 14 sites have hook-ups.  Our stay was marred by heavy fire smoke from campfires penetrating our van.  The distance from I-95 adds an extra hour to your travel if you are just planning a one-nite stopover, so we might not make the trek again.

No Frills, Full Hookups I-95 Waysration

Excellent place to camp overnight or for a couple days to rest while traveling the I-95 corridor. Full hookups to empty your tanks (heated water to avoid freezing in cold), level sites - mostly pull through so you can get in and out with ease. Large open areas to walk the pups and a decent sized dog run so they can get exercise (I can’t run that fast :) ). They has a small pool for hot summer months to cool off and refresh. Camp store has needed essentials but don’t expect to find everything a camper can desire. Campus is sparsely appointed but it has all that travelers really want which is a quiet place away from the noisy highway that is safe and has the site amenities of bigger and fancier campgrounds. I rate 4 stars because it serves its intended purpose, has level sites (didn’t even need to unhook to get level) with full hookups, and it’s priced for a quick overnight or even long-term stay if you are of humble needs. We will make it a regular stop on our journeys south and north again.

    Passing thru

This campground appeared to be very clean and well kept.  I am disappointed that we were only there for a night  traveling south.  If I'm in the area will definitely come back.

Great place to stay, safe location, and has a family atmosphere.

Great place to stay, safe location, and has a family atmosphere.  Space was large and I was able to pull through without having to de-attach my car trailer.

    Relaxing stay!

First time camping at cliffs of the neuse and it was great. They sell firewood for $7 (cash only at the camp store) and the park staff was friendly. Our spot was shaded by the trees and even had a little path to the bathroom in the brush. We were surprised by two kittens who cautiously watched us from the bushes. Bathrooms were also very clean. Cleanest I might have ever seen at a camp.

    Clean and Quiet

We stopped at Medoc Mountain State Park for a night on our way North. It was only 10 miles away from I-95. It was a quiet campground (but we were camping the night after the 4th of July ). Lots of space in between campsites, bathrooms were clean.

Though the website said there was only 50 amp availability, we didn’t have to use our adapter and were able to connect using 30amp plug. There was also a 15 amp connection.

There is a shared water spigot for 4 sites right next to the site. We were able to fill up using our hose before fully backing up into the site. The water was much closer to site 3 than site 1,2,4.

Lots of hiking right from the campground and a fun playground nearby for the kiddos. We would definitely visit again, especially as a stopover to destinations farther from home.

    It’s a trailer park…mostly

Just being honest- I’ve been over-landing/camping all around NC and this did not feel like nature. It feels like a parking lot with a pool. Please Understand you will be parked in between huge trailers/RVs that rent that space permanently and are slightly territorial. Considering not spending night. AND Don’t go over 7.5 mph the golf cart police will scold you. Pros- It’s clean and quiet and hookups work.

    Farm Country Campground

    Friendly Campground

Owner on site, propane available, showers & restrooms are newer and very clean. We reserved late so had one of the spots right next to the restroom. Owner explained that the wrong kind of sand had been delivered so it would not compact, it was a challenge pulling our trailer thru the sand. This seems to be an issue in only a few of the spots.

    Great for Full Timers!

Great little campground! About 30-40 sites. The camp host Sharon is FANTASTIC. Not a ton of “amenities” but the campground is very well maintained. Very good restaurant right across the street!

    Drive By!

We drove up to check the park out to see if it would be worth a trip to camp. We will definitely be making a trip there. The camp ground was nice and very clean. The sights are all gravel with full hook ups. But loop around the sight is paved. There are some cabins as well with a bath house. The tent sights are completely secluded drive in with some on the water. All the roads are paved and nice. Except the road back to the tents is dirt but very well kept. If navigating the tent spot the road may be tight for larger trucks. I have a F-150 that was fine but anything larger than a half ton truck it may get tight.

Activities: There is a nature center at the entrance of the park. A ton of trails with trail heads everywhere. A swim beach (we didn’t walk to). A place to launch Kayaks as well.

Careful There is four foot tall vegetation between the sites and they are spread out. When I was there a random fire started where myself and another camper fought it for 30 mins and my wife drove around getting campers to evacuate until the fire department came. Just be mindful if your smoker and any fires you may have while camping. If you were camping there March 5th, 2023 and came back to your house unhooked from your trailer, I’m sorry but I used it to contain the fire instead of burning your 5th wheel down. I didn’t hook it up because I was dragging it through fire and didn’t know if you would want it hooked up.

My go to site for tent camping

Have been several times the last being 2 nights last weekend. I sleep in the primitive site in a hammock and there were plenty of trees to hang from. Firewood is $8.00 a bundle. Although it was a busy weekend the sites are far enough apart that noise is not an issue. The primitive sites are well maintained and the staff is great. There is a dock that you can launch a kayak from and racks to store them. Nice touch. Water is from various spigots but no electricity. There are some bathrooms

    I’ll be back

    Rude Camphost

The camp host was extremely rude. When I was pulling into the campsite, driving the posted speed limit, he made a motion for to slow down. I did.

When I approached his campsite to secure my campsite, he approached my vehicle before I had a chance to get out. I did. He told I was driving too fast. I said I was driving the posted limit and did slow down regardless. He said the same thing repeatedly. I told him I would not be staying which seemed to upset him more. He made mention that he was assistant director of something and he was going to give my tabs numbers to the police in case I came back to do "something."

In all of my years of camping in many states, I have never been treated or talk to so disrespectfully. Beware.

    Will definitely stay again!

We stayed in site 11 which was surrounded by lots of trees and gave us lots of privacy from our neighbors. Each site has its own covered trash bin to use. I also appreciated that there was a recycling bin near the bath house. Bathrooms were clean. Great hiking and biking trails! Service was spotty at the campsite but better over near the pavilions/playground.

    Handicap Accessible !!

They have a cabin that is fully handicapped! It has a paved sidewalk to the bathrooms and they will allow you to drive your “person” down the access path to the water way!! My daughter loved it and we will be back! Even the picnic table has a cut out for a wheelchair!

Quiet, clean campground on the river

Stayed here in February.  Was nice and quiet, especially the far away camp sites.  All sites seemed pretty level.  One note is that they only accept cash for payment.

A great place to stop over for a night!

We stay here occasionally when we head south on I-95, and it’s a decent place to call home for a few nights. You can reserve this campground online, which is always handy. The staff are helpful and pleasant.

The campground itself is not huge, but a good size and easy to navigate. Just watch when you are arriving as the driveway is a bit hard to see and turning around can be tricky if you go too far. It would be good if they marked the entrance a little better, but that is a nitpick.

The sites are pretty big and level, and it seems most of the sites have sewer, water, and electric. There are lots of pull through sites as well.

I noticed that the police patrol the area frequently and even park their cars there, so that is good for security.

The campground has a nice sized pool, a camp store, and a few other amenities. It is also gated so you can’t just drive in. When you check in you need to call the office and they will come out and move the barrier and then escort you to your site.

This campground is certainly nice enough; it is conveniently located, has good sized sites, and all the necessities. We will definitely stay there again!

    New and clean

New clean RV area in older state park. Bathrooms and showers were new and excellent for RV campers. Verizon 1-2 bars. Spanish moss in trees over the Pamlico. Can get buggy and humid when hot. Bring bug spray. Gravel RV pad.

    Quiet with nice trails

Very quiet with well spaced sites.

    Well maintained hiking trails.

Big open park area for night sky viewing or daytime picnics.

Most the sites have deteriorating construction or in need of new gravel.

The bath house was very clean.

Trailer / RV sites aren't level for most sites. Some of the pull through sites don't accommodate large trailers due to tight turns.

The tent camp areas are very level.
