Fishing, paddling, and wildlife viewing give campers plenty of reasons to set up at Neuseway Nature Park and Campground, a municipally managed site along the Neuse River in Kinston, North Carolina. The campground sits in open terrain with river-facing and wooded site options, plus viewing platforms and at least three ponds stocked for fishing. Trails run through the property, and the adjacent Neuseway Nature Center houses live animal exhibits, including raptors in outdoor enclosures near the bathhouse.
Sites run $10 per night for primitive tent camping and $20 for RV sites with 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups. RV sites accommodate rigs up to 70 feet. Payment is cash or check only, collected at the Nature Center during business hours or by a host who makes morning rounds. The bathhouse requires a code, given out at check-in. Reviewers note the showers are functional and the grounds are generally clean, though the bathhouse is a longer walk from some sites. The campground sits in a flood zone and has gone under during Neuse River flooding, so checking river levels before arrival is worth the effort.
Across the river, a short walk leads into Kinston's Heritage Street district, where campers can find dining, a brewery, and a full-size Civil War ironclad replica. As Myron C. puts it, the location has "a little bit of both worlds." Riverside sites come with bugs and highway noise that reviewers describe as modest but present. Pets are allowed, WiFi is available, and Verizon users report solid cell coverage. Campers exploring places to camp near Kinston will find this one of the more activity-rich options in the area.
