Private porches: Many cabins in the region feature outdoor seating areas. "We stayed in one of the cabins, it was clean with fresh linens, a fridge, and microwave. Comfortable relaxing porch chairs to watch the sunset over the mountains. The owners are super friendly and helpful," according to Allison at Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground.
Central location: Easy access to Blue Ridge Parkway attractions. "Located right off the Blue Ridge Parkway the views are amazing. You have access to several small towns and state parks with plenty of trials and things to see," says Bill R. about Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground.
Camping variety: Options for all preferences within short distances. "We stayed here for vacation last year. There's a nice dog park, and the facilities are clean. My only negative was that they had us camp up on the top of the hill and it was difficult to navigate back down, with some very sharp turns for our fifth wheel," reports Megan B. about Fancy Gap-Blue Ridge Parkway KOA.
On-site amenities: From basic to extensive depending on the cabin location. "A wonderful place. Well spaced sites, clean and level. Camp store is well stocked. What you should know
Seasonal operations: Many facilities reduce services from late fall through early spring. "End of season... Pool was closed but it was hot as hell (9/3/2019). WiFi is good if you're in the right spot. We had a great spot for camping, but bad for wifi," notes Peter H. about Fancy Gap-Blue Ridge Parkway KOA.
Pet policies: Vary significantly between cabin rentals near Ennice. New River Trail Cabins explicitly prohibits pets, while many other locations welcome them with designated areas or additional fees.
Tent pad sizes: Can be limiting for larger groups in some locations. "We stayed at Campsite 50, and while it was in a nice wooded area with plenty of shade and a decent amount of privacy, the tent pad was smaller than expected. We brought a 10-person tent, and it was a tight fit," cautions David N. about Hanging Rock State Park.
Bathroom conditions: Inconsistent across different cabin and campground locations. "The bathrooms were a mixed bag. On the plus side, the showers had hot water, which was a very welcome amenity after a day on the trails. However, the women's bathroom was unfortunately in rough shape," reports a visitor to Hanging Rock State Park.

Swimming options: Lake facilities provide safe alternatives to river swimming. "Beautiful campground! It is about a 15 minute drive to 3 great wineries and walkable to the trail head for the Stone Mountain loop. Great amenities, and everything was very clean," shares Kristin F. about Stone Mountain State Park.
Kid-friendly activities: Various organized events available seasonally. "This campground is terrific! All the facilities are extremely well kept and clean, the store has lots of necessities and some fun souvenirs. Our kids loved the arcade, the wagon and train rides around the campground, the craft time, pool and the fishing!" explains Lisa T. about Wytheville KOA.
Tent camping alternatives: Platform sites available for families new to camping. "Campsites in this section are tent only and very nice and have platforms. RV sites are crowded. Clean bath houses, and plenty to do. The lake is beautiful and has boat rentals and a swimming beach! Great place to kayak!" says Denise about Royal Oak Campground at Hungry Mother State Park.

Accessibility considerations: Some locations require navigating steep roads. "We stayed one night at the Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground in our Riverside Retro 199FKS - and absolutely loved it!
