New River Canoe and Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Reservations are available at New River Canoe and Campground, a privately run facility in Independence, Virginia, with nightly rates ranging from $29 to $89. The campground provides electric and water hookups for RVs, a dump station, showers, and WiFi, though at least one camper noted the shower water did not get fully warm. Sites sit close together, and a one-lane entrance road sees steady traffic, so campers who prefer more space between neighbors should factor that in. The New River is the main draw, with Class 2 and 3 rapids accessible via a $20 shuttle for a 10-mile float back to camp. Healing Springs Farm is an alternative roughly six miles northwest for those wanting a different setup.

Not enough room

Sites are on top of each other and there is so much traffic in an out on a one lane road. It’s a wonder no one has gotten hurt. The river is nice.

Clean and kept up

Stayed at the 221 walk/paddle in group site. The walk in wasn't a blast, but that was our fault, but the whole campground was kept up nice, bathroom was clean, sites were cleaned n trimmed. I didn't shower but my wife did, and said the water didn't really ever fully get warm, not sure what that's about. All around a good stay, probably will stay here again.

Best camping and floating on new river!

Great place for camping, plenty of tent camp, also plenty sites for campers with 30 & 50 amp service with water, dump station available onsite also. Best canoeing and kayaking on new river, class 2 & 3 rapids on the 10 mile float, worth the $20 shuttle to take you up river to float right back to camp ground. Also have have cabins/apartments , and store available
