Winter activities: For those looking to camp during colder months, several locations offer year-round access. "We stayed over winter. They have a small winter section. You'll have the entire mountain side all to yourself! Snowshoe, cross country ski. Winter campfires," explains James S. about Frosty Acres Campground.
Biking paths: Many campgrounds provide direct access to biking networks. "There is a nice paved walking/biking path adjacent to the park that runs from Lake George to Glens Falls. The path is perfect for safely walking or biking to Lake George which is less than two miles away," reports Nancy W.

Private, spacious sites: Moose Hillock Camping Resorts offers unusually large sites with natural barriers. "The sites at this park are huge. You could have parked three RVs in our site. Added bonus is that there is nice separation between sites with trees and shrubs that block out your neighbors and provide lots of privacy," notes Nancy W.
Clean facilities: Many campers praise the maintenance standards. "The shower room is very tidy and I like it very much!" shares Bai C. about Ledgeview Village RV Park.
Water recreation: On-site swimming pools and water features are common amenities. "The pool was very cold but spotless, which was surprising since there's pine trees all around," notes Cecilia K. about Ledgeview Village RV Park.
Family entertainment: Organized activities keep younger campers engaged. "There is a trolley to get around the camp ground as well as to the local outlets. Fun family activities and quite a few pools to relax in," explains Michelle D.
What you should know
Road noise considerations: Some campgrounds near major roadways experience traffic noise. "The Northway was directly to the west, maybe 1000 ft through the woods, extremely loud traffic noise," reports Cat R. about Lake George Campsites.
Seasonal amenities: Many facilities operate with limited services outside peak season. "We were there in May (which is early in the season) so not all the amenities were open. Essentially, we were paying for things we did not use," explains Nancy W.
Proximity to towns: Lake George RV Park provides access to nearby communities. "This park is amazing! So much to do right in the park with clean sites, friendly staff, awesome amenities and even a trolly to get around this huge park or get down town to Lake George," reports Carrie M.
Campsite selection importance: At larger campgrounds, site location matters significantly. "Getting the right site here is key. Some have room, privacy, and trees. Others are close together, and out in the open," advises Ian P. about King Philip's Campground.
Tips for camping with families
Dog-friendly amenities: Pet accommodations vary widely between glamping locations near Ballston Spa. "Best part- the 2 acre dog park with shaded seating for humans, bathrooms and a dog wash station," shares April L. about Lake George RV Park.
Child-specific facilities: Lake George Escape Campground offers designated youth areas. "Great Camper camp ground! This place is great for families, it has different activities, a waterslide, peddle carts, kayaks and boats for rent, dancing, and teen specific activities too!" explains Meag F.
Swimming options: Multiple water features keep children entertained. "Living 10 minutes away, we were looking for an affordable vacation and we found it! We are already planning our next trip," shares Carrie M. about the swimming amenities at Lake George RV Park.
Playgrounds accessibility: Consider proximity to recreational areas when booking. "Great campground for families, we stayed at a tent site right near the playground. Pool, arcade, a short trolley ride to downtown lake George. It was a great stay and the kids loved it," notes Katrina J.
Tips from RVers
Site leveling requirements: Many campsites require adjustment for RV parking. "The site pad was packed gravel and slightly unlevel. We have a 27 foot camper and was slightly difficult to maneuver into the site. If your camper sits low, chances are it will hit the road on some of the inclines," advises Cat R.
Hookup configurations: Utility placements vary between locations. "The sewer hook-up was very weird and at an angle that was hard to secure my hose to. Instead of flowing straight down into the ground, it was at 45 degrees and took a big rock for me to secure it," explains Nancy W.
Navigation challenges: Alpine Lake RV Resort can present maneuvering difficulties. "The roads are narrow and many should be one way, but are not. It would have been impossible many places in the grounds to pass a rig on the road due to the amount of other's vehicles, golf carts, decorations etc... so patience is important when arriving and departing," warns April L.
Satellite reception: Tree coverage impacts connectivity at many locations. "I was able to use my roof-mounted satellite dish and get reception but that would not be true for all sites," notes Nancy W. about coverage at glamping sites near Ballston Spa.
