Fishing opportunities: French Meadows Reservoir offers trout fishing 1.5 hours from Auburn via winding mountain roads. "Nice reservoir lots of camp sites. Long somewhat treacherous drive to get there," comments Dan D. The reservoir access is worth the drive for anglers, with shore fishing possible from multiple campsite locations.
Winter activities: Snow camping remains possible at select RV parks near Incline Village-Crystal Bay when higher elevation sites close. "We ended up camping in a truck camper at Tahoe Valley Campground after being caught in a snow storm. For a last minute find, it turned out to be an awesome choice. It was the weekend after Thanksgiving and snowing so there were a handful of people at the campground and the entire place was very quiet," shares Basia M.

Organized activities: Many RV parks near Incline Village-Crystal Bay offer structured programming during peak season. "They put on a ton of events like karaoke nights, live music, and smores nights. Hot showers and well lit clean bathrooms. Hard to find solitude or silence," explains Dani P. about Tahoe Valley Campground.
Pet-friendly beaches: RV Village Campground at Camp Richardson Resort provides dog-friendly beach access. "We had 2 small dogs so they went allowed on the Zephyr Cove beach, but a short walk to the right there is a dog friendly beach. I would argue it's even better part of the beach. Nice rock formations and sandy beach," describes Randy J.
Mountain views: Silver City RV Resort in Minden offers panoramic vistas. "Great views of the mountains and the Carson Valley from this very nice RV campground. This place has everything. Beautiful setting and great, complete amenities," writes Alison. The park's location provides optimal viewing of the Sierra Nevada range.
What you should know
Age restrictions: Some RV parks enforce RV age policies without clear advance notice. At Sparks Marina RV Park, "There is NO mention of an age restriction on their website. I specifically searched it before I made the reservation. But they WILL take the reservation online, take your money, then call to check the age of your rig," warns Leah T.
Site variations: RV parks around Incline Village-Crystal Bay often have significant differences between site types. "Sites are narrow, about twice the width of your RV, and separated by chain link fencing. But all sites are perfectly flat, paved pull-throughs; easy in, easy out parking," explains John W. about Silver City RV Resort.
Winter hookup limitations: Cold temperatures affect water availability in winter months. "We weren't able to connect to water because of freezing temperatures," notes Basia M. at Tahoe Valley Campground. Campers should prepare for disconnected water systems from November through March at many locations.
Tips for camping with families
Pool access: Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort offers swimming amenities for families. "Beautiful view of the mountains, good security, private bathrooms and showers, pool and hot tub, very clean. Access to trails," reports mom H. The resort maintains the pool seasonally from late May through September.
Kid activity restrictions: Not all amenities welcome children at every RV park. "My children and I could not enjoy the amenities. Kids must be 18 to enjoy the spa even if accompanied by adults, had a great club house with a pool table but kids must be 14 to play," cautions Mar about Sparks Marina RV Park.
Check-in efficiency: RV parks vary widely in check-in procedures. "The line at 2pm was horrible! I got there at 2:01 and there were already 20 people in front of me. The process is painfully slow," reports Nicki M. about Camp Richardson Resort. Arriving before 2pm or after 4pm often results in shorter wait times during peak season.
Tips from RVers
Site width considerations: Gold Dust West RV Park features paved but compact RV sites. "Very clean, paved parking lot with full hookups and cable. Spaces are a bit tight but easily doable. Laundry and showers very clean," notes Gregg K. RVs with multiple or large slide-outs should request corner sites when available.
Urban park standards: RV parks close to Reno/Sparks offer limited vegetation but more amenities. "The spots have almost zero shade and most have no grass. The bathrooms/showers close from midnight to 6 am. But, they have a bowling alley, swimming pool, casino, escape rooms, movie theater, arcade, fitness center, Starbucks, more than 5 restaurants, and it goes on," describes A.T. about Grand Sierra Resort RV Park.
Non-reservable campgrounds: Unlike most reservation-required parks, French Meadows Campground often has availability for last-minute travelers. "We rolled in around midnight on a Thursday in September and there were still plenty of walk-in sites available. The camp sites were a little close together, but it wasn't too bad. There was a water spigot, toilets, table, fire ring, and easy access to the reservoir," reports Adam B.
