Best RV Parks & Resorts near Gothenburg, NE

Lafayette Park Campground in Gothenburg offers 50/30 amp electric hookups with water connections on gravel sites situated among large oak trees. Blue Heron Campground, formerly a KOA, provides 40 RV sites including 17 full hookup spots and water/electric sites for $39-45 per night. Muny Park in Cozad features concrete pads with 50 amp electric and water hookups, plus a dump station on-site. Most RV parks in the area operate year-round, though Lafayette Park runs from April through November. Sites accommodate big rigs but require careful navigation between trees. "The sites are all back in and concrete pads, with some trees lining the backside of the RV's," noted one visitor about Muny Park.

Many RV parks near Gothenburg provide easy access from Interstate 80, making them convenient overnight stops for cross-country travelers. Dump stations are available at most locations, though Johnson Lake's facility was temporarily closed for construction as of spring 2024. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the region. Reservations are recommended during summer months when parks fill quickly with seasonal travelers. Shared water connections are common at some parks, with Lafayette Park requiring neighboring sites to coordinate hookup usage. Pets are permitted at all locations, though dedicated dog areas are limited. Pull-through sites are available but limited in number, with Blue Heron offering 17 designated pull-through spaces that accommodate larger rigs without disconnecting tow vehicles.

    I-80 Lakeside Campground

    Great little retreat

Very nice park just off I-80. There's a nice little lake that you can swim and fish (catch and release only), or rent a kayak or little boat. Full hookups available, with many pull through spots as well. Each spot has a fire pit and picnic table. In the middle of the grounds is a children's playground and 2 small fenced dog runs. Nice bathroom and shower facilities, and a nice store for many of your needs. And if you need more, there's 2 truck stops (travel plazas) across the interstate. Maybe the only drawback would be interstate noise. I highly recommend.

    Lafayette Park Campground

    Okay Campground

Our RV GPS took us right through the middle of Gothenberg where WAZE and Google Maps wanted to take us around on Avenue G to 11th St. Around to 11th would have cut out a lot of the stops going through town and the bumpy railroad tracks. But otherwise, it was not hard to find this campground(CG). The park office was not open this day at 3:00 PM as the person was out until the evening. We had reservations so we got a map and proceeded to pull-through site 23 with water(shared between two sites) and electric(50/30 AMP). The map didn’t help much but this was a small CG so we drove until we found the site and then maneuvered between the huge oak trees. We had to disconnect and park our F450 lateral to fit. Since the small back-in site 24 shares water with our site 23, and we were told the CG was going to be full, we put in enough water for our overnight stay instead of staying hooked up to water. Across from our site was a little covered bridge that took us to the main city park area, which was great to walk our dogs. We got a good variety of OTA channels. The satellite would be iffy from most sites due to the large oaks. This CG was okay for large rigs just be careful on site selection as some of the sites are short and back-ins were tight. There are sites like ours that will take bigger rigs but the easiest in/out site for larger rigs is pull through 28. There was a 40+ foot class A parked in 28 when we were there. The CG was okay for a short stay.

Main Campground — Johnson Lake State Recreation Area

    Lovely Area to Camp

I stayed at the Main camp ground with a great lake view on site 76. Sites 77-86 are pull through and the rest are back in for RV. There are also tent sites near the water. There are bathrooms, showers and electric (50/30amp), there are no water hook-ups. The dump station is currently closed (April 2024) due to construction. The camp grounds are close together but they have planted bushes between them to create privacy. I cant speak on the bathroom or showers as the are closed since it is off season.

    Lafayette Park Campground

Very Nice People, Lots of open space

We stopped here, off I80, on our way east from California. It was convenient. We were the only campers, as it is off season. I used The online reservation system, but chose to stay in an alternate site, because ours wasn’t level. Our other site was listed as a pull-thru, but it’s good no one else was there, because it wasn’t long enough for our 45’ rig and our tow vehicle. So I’d caution other big rigs that they might have to unhook their tow vehicle at this park, depending on how full it is.

    Holiday RV Park

    Right off Interstate 80

Quiet RV spot with a diner right near for good breakfast.  Seems like many tenants were long term.  Nice people that run the campground.  Stayed only one night as we were passing through.

    I-80 Lakeside Campground

    Nice for overnight!

Arrived 7pm without a reservation. Clear list of available sites, amenities and prices. Grassy gravel pad, long enough to stay hooked up and wide enough to have slides out without feeling like you’re in your neighbor’s site . Full hookups worked fine. Restrooms older but clean. Soap dispensers and towels were empty. The campground layout was meandering so it didn’t feel like a parking lot. Some sites right next to the river, some away. Where we were the freeway noise was not so bad. Would stay here again.

    Great stop over for us!

Friendly staff!  We stayed in Site 84. Gravel pull through that was level.  Close, but not too close to neighbors.  Lots of grassy areas to walk the dogs with waste stations and bags.  Although we have no kids traveling with us, the playground area was in great shape and had lots to do.  Laundry room is clean as well.  Easy on/off access to highway.  No issues with ou AT&T and T-Mobile service.  Would recommend this campsite.

    Lafayette Park Campground

    Great Park-like CG

Great little RV park in a park-like setting. Gravel roads with relatively level gravel sites. Shared services. Lots of big trees. Long pull-through site to leave the truck and TT attached. Cross the little covered bridge into Lake Helen Rec Area for a good walkabout. Visit downtown Gothenburg to see the Pony Express station. We liked it and would stay here again.

    Cody City Park Campground

City park. Close to Highway so it might be a little noisey

Most cities in Nebraska have these type of site. Grass and sand but has 30 amp electric. Has a dump station along with restrooms and showers. Good place to stay one night. Need to check out the grocery store next to the site.
