Shaded by trees and set alongside a dried-up creek bed, Blue Heron Campground sits just off I-80 at Exit 211 near campgrounds just outside Gothenburg, making it a practical overnight stop for travelers moving through central Nebraska. The property changed hands in 2021 when new owners took over from KOA, and reviews since then describe ongoing renovations alongside a consistently well-kept grounds. Freeway noise is audible but, as multiple campers note, it fades into the background quickly.
The campground has 40 RV and trailer sites, a mix of pull-through and back-in configurations, with 17 full hookups and the remainder offering water and electric. Sites run $39 to $55 per night depending on hookup type, and three cabins with air conditioning, swings, and fire pits are also available. Laundry, a playground, and a dump station round out the amenities. The restrooms and showers draw consistent praise across reviews, with Heidi describing it as a "lovely spot under the trees next to a nature preserve." The creek bed alongside the property gives leashed dogs room to roam.
A few practical notes: check electrical connections at your site before unpacking, as some hookups have had issues. The campground accepts reservations, and given its convenient highway access, sites can fill on busy travel weekends. Arriving late is manageable since staff have been known to personally guide campers to their spots after dark. Booking ahead for summer travel is a reasonable precaution.
