Reservations are available but not required at I-80 Lakeside Campground, a privately operated RV and tent campground off Exit 179 near North Platte, Nebraska, running from May 1 through September 15. Nightly rates run $34 to $44 depending on hookup needs, with full electric, water, and sewer connections available across roughly 89 RV sites. Sites are gravel and level, with pull-through options long enough to accommodate large fifth wheels and bumper pulls without unhooking. Walk-in arrivals have generally found open spots during weekday stays, though site spacing is described as a little tight.
The campground is built around a small private lake used for catch-and-release fishing and swimming. Anglers have pulled crappie, bass, catfish, and walleye from the water, and the camp runs a tagged-fish incentive: catch one and win a free boat rental. Kayaks, paddle boats, and rowboats are available to rent at the office. "There is a nice little lake/pond where we saw a lot of birds," notes Aaron, who visited in the off-season when other facilities were closed. A playground, two fenced dog runs, horseshoes, volleyball, and a walking trail round out the on-site activity options.
Each site comes with a fire pit and picnic table. The on-site store carries camping essentials and firewood. Restrooms are older but functional, and GP describes them as "older but clean," though soap dispensers and paper towels have occasionally run empty. A laundry facility is also on-site. Two travel plazas sit across the interstate for fuel, food, and additional supplies.
Noise from I-80 is a consistent consideration. Sites closer to the highway are noticeably louder, while those toward the far end of the grounds are more removed from traffic sound. Large cottonwood trees provide some shade and attract birds, but parking directly beneath them in late spring means dealing with cottonwood fluff and droppings. The access road is noted as rough in spots, so drivers towing larger rigs should take it slowly. A number of permanent or long-term RVs occupy the perimeter, though reviewers generally note they do not affect the rest of the campground's layout or feel.
Campers looking for a different setup nearby can check out Holiday RV Park a couple of miles to the west, or Flying J Travel Center — North Platte for a no-frills overnight stop closer to the interstate.

I-80 Lakeside Campground, formerly known as Lakeside Camping, reopened under new owners in May 2016. Seated on a clean private lake, our campground features 126 sites, many with full water, sewer, and electric (30 or 50 amp), as well as a community shower house, laundry facilities, and dump station. Several sites are pull-through and can accommodate any size RV. We also have areas set aside for primitive and tent camping. A small convenience store is located on-site, and includes items such as snacks, drinks, fishing supplies, camping items, ice, and a limited supply of grocery items. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer WiFi or cable.
In addition to being an overnight campground, I-80 Lakeside is also available for day use. A $5 per person Day Use Pass allows access to the south and east beaches of the property during office hours. Activities available with a Day Use Pass include fishing (catch and release only), swimming, sand volleyball, a walking trail, picnic areas, and use of campfire pits. We also have non-motorized watercraft for rent from our store, including kayaks, paddle boats, a canoe, and rowboats. These can be rented by the 1/2 hour, hourly, or daily (during office hours). Only I-80 Lakeside watercraft is allowed on the lake.
The well-stocked lake houses a multitude of fish. Species include Crappie, Bass, Walleye, Perch, Catfish, and others. No permit is needed. Fishing is catch and release only.

Campground is on the South side of the road. From Highway 30: Turn South onto Newberry Access (on East edge of North Platte). After driving about 1.5 miles and crossing the Platte River, turn East at the first opportunity down a private drive (this will be immediately after crossing the Platte River bridge).
