  Langohr Campground

  Cute Little Campground with Just the Right Amenities

  About 20 minutes south of Bozeman, MT on scenic Hyalite Canyon Road sits Langohr Campground. There are 19 spacious single sites and the 20th site is a group picnic site for day use. Langohr Campground runs along Hyalite Creek and is tucked inside Custer Gallatin National Forest in a small open meadow with Douglas fir, Lodgepole pine, and Englemann Spruce. 

  I was fortunate to find a campsite as a walk-in even after arriving mid-afternoon at the beginning of June 2019 because it was too late to reserve online. Each site does have a picnic table and fire ring, and electrical sites are available. Some are drive-in or back into sites, and a few are literally next to Hyalite Creek which is an added bonus. A heavy snowfall occurred a week before and remnants of it were scattered along the campground. Good thing I brought a snow scraper to clear the picnic table of snow. The fee is $20.00 per campsite for two vehicles and $8.00 for any additional vehicles. The group picnic site is $45.00 for day use. I paid cash for the site, but I believe you may also pay by credit card.

  Many of the campers were settling in and had parked RVs and pop-ups. Pets are allowed but must be on a leash as wildlife such as bears, deers, moose, and elk frequent the area. Bear lockers should be used for food storage or properly stored in vehicles. There are huge bear safe trash and recycling containers near the entrance for campers to use. The bathroom is clean, free of odor and bugs, and it is a vault toilet. There are no showers, dump station, or camp store, but you are close to Bozeman.  The camp host was settled on site 11 and sells firewood for $6.00. You can take a walk along the Hyalite Creek or drive 3.5 miles south down to Hyalite Reservoir for other activities such as fishing, kayaking, canoeing, climbing, hiking, and boating. The night sky was pretty spectacular especially with the trees around on a clear day.

  Fairy Lake Campground

  Unmarked and slippery

  This campground is mentioned to only be free near the lake. We decided to take our chances on a slightly rainy night. I would highly not recommend unless you have 4 wheel drive and even then we saw a jeep wrangler sliding everywhere. We made it past the campsite and down a dirt road (it was extremely bumpy!), we saw a few other campers along the creek before climbing the slippery dirt road. We didn’t realize how bad it would be but we made it up the first stretch where there was a landing, after the landing there is another stretch of dirt road to climb and I’m not sure what was beyond that point. This campsite is located in the gallatin national forest and when we reached the landing there was a sign for no overnight camping within the forest. At this point the rain had picked back up so we decided to go back down the mountain and camp with everyone else along the creek. The mosquitos were heavy but didn’t bite. It was quiet and the spot was well kept with a rock fire pit!

  Greek Creek Campground

  A nice wooded, but loud campground

  Greek Creek Campground is a small 15 site campground in the Gallatin National Forest. The campground is located on both sides of U.S. Highway 191. The West portion of the campground has 6 sites and sits on the shore of the Gallatin River. The East portion has 9 sites. The campground is paved with gravel parking pads. Each side of the campground has ADA accessible vault toilets. Sites are$20 per night and all sites can be reserved so the chance of finding a spot available on the weekend will be difficult unless you have reserved a site. I was unable to find an available site and I arrived at the campground at 9am on a Friday morning. This is going to be a loud campground at nice with the busy U.S. Highway 191 running through the campground, so unless you are a sound sleeper you might just want to pass on this campground. All campsites are equipped with a picnic table and metal fire ring. Both sides have water and trash service, including recycling. The campground is nicely wooded with Fir, Spruce and Cottonwood trees. The Gallatin River is a popular Rafting and Kayaking location with numerous outfitters available, the river is also a popular fly fishing destination. If you enjoy hiking many trail heads are available in the area.

  Livingston/Paradise Valley KOA Holiday

  Great location for the parks.

  Great little KOA. Awesome views of the Absaroka range. Book early. Tent sites were great. Nice dog park, small though.

  Bear Canyon Campground

  Steep steep

  Not the best experience. The entrance is quite tricky and very steep. We missed the entrance and had to find a place to unhook and turn around. (We’re in a 36’ RV pulling a Jeep) The hookup spaces are so close together you can touch your neighbor, so we missed the beautiful views the partial hook up guys were able to enjoy. It’s a little run down and quite pricy. The dog “park” isn’t fenced, so if your hoping to let your dogs stretch there legs, this isn’t the place for you. We will find another stop next time we come through.

  Bozeman Hot Springs Campground & RV

  Good place to stay, nice hot springs

  Nice dog park across the street, sites are a little tight but its perfect for a couple night stay. Awesome that its only 35 miles to Big Sky and its a gorgeous drive. Our sire only had electric/water but i know there are some with full hookups. Picnic tables and fire rings and sites are gravel.

  Three Forks KOA Journey

  Nice small KOA

  This is a small KOA. Super friendly staff. Sites are shady unless you have a big rig - that area does not have shade. Decent dog park. Decent playground. I did not use the bath house so can’t comment on that. No pool, but did have a nice patio area with tables and chairs behind the store. I just stayed one night as we are on the road home. I do have one complaint and that is the sprinklers that came on overnight - it soaked the chairs and picnic table by our camper. I think the friendliness of the staff and the shady sites are the main reason for 5 stars.

  Cottonwood Reservoir Dispersed Camping

  Very hard to find at night

  This place seemed promising at first. It was hard to find a decent spot at night due to only using headlights of my van. Most of the road is extremely rugged/uneven/full of large holes. The only place I was able to stay for the night was the road leading up to the locked gate. This is about the only nice spot. Other than that this place is • quiet w/occasional traffic along the high way (right next to reservoir) • very few people here, but far enough away from me • no fee required • provides OK view to the mountains • great when you bring along a pet • you will need to be fully prepared for primitive camping

  Yellowstone Edge RV Park

  Worth it for the view

  Right on the edge of the Yellowstone River, about 90 minutes north of Yellowstone NP. This is an RV Park, so no tents are allowed. The view of the river and the mountains is fantastic. And, it’s close to dining in Livingston if you want that. Laundry facilities and a larger than average store. Pet friendly. The sites are small. But, I would definitely go back.
