Welcome to our campground! We have a variety of options that should suit just about anyone. We are near Yellowstone National Park as well as Bozeman, MT which offers all types of recreational opportunities e.g. hiking, fishing, climbing, skiing, cycling and running trails.

VanGoBoon is the perfect "Pull-in for the Night" as well as week-long stays! Most of our sites are SELF-CONTAINED. We have 2 sites that have electric and water hookups. (20,30,50amp)

On site we have horseshoes, frisbee golf, and corn toss. We mostly offer dry campsites for overnight stays for vans. Most sites are on concrete slabs so they are level and the property has grass areas with trees as well.

FYI: Great site if you like trains! An important part of Montana’s commerce is transportation by rail so there will be some highway and train noise.

Private spots between trees but near freeway for easy access. Our 2 horses have been a favorite with young campers along with the open yet private campsites! We look forward to welcoming you!

Showers are for cabin rentals only.

This area contains two water-oriented recreation sites. Upper Toston Dam campground is located just above Toston Dam on the Missouri River Reservoir, and Lower Toston Dam campground is just below the dam on the free-flowing river. This reach of the river is a popular fishery for rainbow and brown trout. Wildlife frequent the area, and waterfowl, eagles, hawks, cormorants, and pelicans are common sites. Motorboats can be used above the dam on the small reservoir. Lewis and Clark named the canyon below the dam the Gates of the Mountains.

    Langohr Campground

Cute Little Campground with Just the Right Amenities

About 20 minutes south of Bozeman, MT on scenic Hyalite Canyon Road sits Langohr Campground. There are 19 spacious single sites and the 20th site is a group picnic site for day use. Langohr Campground runs along Hyalite Creek and is tucked inside Custer Gallatin National Forest in a small open meadow with Douglas fir, Lodgepole pine, and Englemann Spruce.

I was fortunate to find a campsite as a walk-in even after arriving mid-afternoon at the beginning of June 2019 because it was too late to reserve online. Each site does have a picnic table and fire ring, and electrical sites are available. Some are drive-in or back into sites, and a few are literally next to Hyalite Creek which is an added bonus. A heavy snowfall occurred a week before and remnants of it were scattered along the campground. Good thing I brought a snow scraper to clear the picnic table of snow. The fee is $20.00 per campsite for two vehicles and $8.00 for any additional vehicles. The group picnic site is $45.00 for day use. I paid cash for the site, but I believe you may also pay by credit card.

Many of the campers were settling in and had parked RVs and pop-ups. Pets are allowed but must be on a leash as wildlife such as bears, deers, moose, and elk frequent the area. Bear lockers should be used for food storage or properly stored in vehicles. There are huge bear safe trash and recycling containers near the entrance for campers to use. The bathroom is clean, free of odor and bugs, and it is a vault toilet. There are no showers, dump station, or camp store, but you are close to Bozeman.  The camp host was settled on site 11 and sells firewood for $6.00. You can take a walk along the Hyalite Creek or drive 3.5 miles south down to Hyalite Reservoir for other activities such as fishing, kayaking, canoeing, climbing, hiking, and boating. The night sky was pretty spectacular especially with the trees around on a clear day.

    Lewis & Clark caverns

Lots to do in this park with local history and geology being the focuses. Not far off 90 if you’re road tripping. The campground is simple and open. Pros: different sleeping options (tent, RV, cabin, yurt, tipi), cave tours, river access, short hiking trails, lots of history (native, mining, settlers, etc), ranger talks, ice/wood camp store, helpful rangers, stargazing, nice modern bathrooms. Cons: very open campground with no privacy nor shade, no tent-only area, lots of RVs. We’d definitely visit again.

    Breathtaking

We were looking for a campground near Bozeman and a friend recommended Hyalite Canyon. We lucked out finding Langohr! Wonderful and secluded camping spots, and we found one right by a river. This was probably the best campsite of our week-long Montana camping excursion.

    Great Scenery, nice sites

Sites were readily available the night we stayed, about 12 in the main campground and several more sites with fire rings outside by the trail entrance. Overall pretty clean, and the lake has a small trail to walk around. The road to get to the trailhead and campground was slow going and really just a logging route- would recommend something with good clearance and ideally 4WD. There are restrooms but no trash bins.

Beautiful Scenery | watch out for Wildlife

Campsite 1 was probably not the best choice but we loved the view… so did our wild life friends

For sure there is 1 grizzly that’s pretty big. He checked out our truck tent.

Mountain Goats will come in your camp and they will do what goats do and want to check you out. They are not scared

The restrooms are shutdown in the camp but the lake access restroom down the hill does work

1 bear box for the whole camp ground so be prepared to store food in car or tree

A little flat but pretty nonetheless

I took my dogs here midwinter. It was cold (obviously) but very pretty next to the water. The mountains reflected the sunlight perfectly and it all was surreal at times. Nice for a little getaway. Don't expect quiet, that river is raging!

Ranger review of Upper Toston Dam Campground and Liquid I.V. Review

Upper Toston Dam Campground and Boat launch is one of two campground in the BLM Toston Dam Recreation Area. The Lower Toston Damp Campground is located a half mile below Toston Dam. The Upper Toston Dam Campground features four cover camp picnic table sites with metal fire rings. All four of the sites sit at the edge of a large parking area. Between the covered sites and the Missouri river is a grassy area that tents can be set up in. The grassy area slopes down towards the river, this could make finding a level spot for your tent difficult depending on the size of your tent. One could also pitch their tent on the edge of the parking area. The site has a single vault toilet. A small boat launch with a dock is available as well. Their is not water or trash service at this campground. This campground will be a quiet location as it is 5 miles from the highway, the only noise will be from water running over the dam and any trains that come down the tracks located on the other side of the river. This site also benefits from not having any cell phone service.

Ranger Review of Liquid I.V.™ Hydration Multiplier Passion Fruit Flavor

I have been trying out Liquid I.V. for several days now and I am quite pleased with the result. Just drinking one of these a day is keeping me well hydrated, far more so than drinking the same amount of water or other sports drinks during the day. Today I tried out the Passion Fruit flavor which taste great. I would give the flavor 5 starts, all though I do prefer the Lemon-Lime flavor.

Gravel road to get to and noisy

First of all you have to get on a 10 mile dirt road to get to the campground. The road is not too bad for a truck or SUV. May be a little challenging for normal passenger cars but doable.

Both campgrounds are nice and close to the waters edge. However a noisy and busy train track for freight trains run on the other side of the river. It feels and sounds like freight trains will run right thru your tent at all times of the day.

    The big plus: its free.

    Free, Private, beautiful drive/setting!

This campsite is free! The drive is so gorgeous right below snow covered mountains. Deer frequent the campground. Has everything you need from a picnic table and fire pit to tent space or you can car camp as you have your own parking spot. There are a few double parking spots as well. Pit toilets. Nice and small/quiet.

Such had a great weekend here. Amazing views at the top of a hill. Not all the cars in our group made it up, so for some of us it was a walk, but doable. Great sites for tents, as well as hammocks. It was clean, everyone was very respectful around us.

    Well Spaced

There is a very generous amount of space between camp sites making this campground feel very private. I brought my dog and it was really nice to have all that space. The campground has excellent views of the Bridgers. It's a fairly shady campground, bugs weren't too bad. Each site has a fire pit and a picnic table.

    Very nice

Campground was nice and woodsey. Love hearing the birds and wind blowing through the trees. The only negative about the place was these people with several kids that seemed to be living there. The kids were noisy and riding bikes through our campsite. The two families that lived there in an RV were extremely nosey. They acted like they owned the place.

Other then that the campground was great. We camped there twice in a months time and that family was still there....ughhh

    Pleasant Overnight Stay

Very pleasant place to spend the night. Manager very helpful in finding the perfect site for TV reception. Spacious gravel site, although needed quite a bit of leveling. Didn’t use any of the facilities, just enjoyed the serene environment, bunnies and doves. Perfect place to spend the night on way from Glacier to Yellowstone. Definitely would stop again.

    Great spot to regroup

Spent 2 nights reorganizing after 5 nights of dry camping. Showers, laundry, restocking the fridge, and letting the dogs run. Perfect spot on our journey

    Great little KOA

This was our first KOA experience and it did not fail to impress. The staff was friendly bathrooms and showers were top notch and the kids had fun. Given that this is a Journey campground our expectations were not too high however we loved our weekend. Will come again.
