Boating, swimming, and fishing draw campers to Clark Canyon Reservoir, where Lewis & Clark Campground sits along the water's edge in southwest Montana. The reservoir is large enough to support a full day on the water, and a boat ramp provides direct access for those trailering in. Sites are spread out with decent spacing between them, though shade is sparse. Wind is a consistent factor here, so securing gear before settling in is worth the effort.
The campground is the only RV location with hookups around the lake, making it a practical base for those with rigs up to 50 feet. Some sites have electric and water hookups while others are electric only. Picnic tables and fire rings are standard at each site. Cell signal on Verizon runs to less than one bar, so plan accordingly. Nearby options include Beaverhead Campground and Clark Canyon Recreation Area for campers who want to compare setups around the reservoir.
The bathrooms are functional but basic, housed in unheated cinderblock. Showers are on-site but cold-weather visits make them impractical. A dump station is available. Nightly rates have been reported at $30 for non-residents and $20 for Montana residents, with senior pass discounts bringing costs lower. Reservations are available and worth considering during summer weekends when the area draws more traffic. Campers arriving in late fall should call ahead, as facilities may close after October.
