Best Campgrounds near Leadore, ID

Campgrounds surrounding Leadore, Idaho range from primitive tent sites to full-service RV parks, with several options located along scenic waterways and mountain terrain. Timber Creek Campground and Meadow Lake Campground provide developed sites with basic amenities, while Leadore City Park offers electric hookups and water for both tent and RV campers. The Salmon National Forest and nearby BLM lands contain multiple established campgrounds with varying levels of development, most situated within striking distance of mountain trails and fishing access points.

Road conditions and seasonal availability significantly impact camping options in the Leadore area. "This is a very nice and clean campground situated within a small cirque of mountain summits," noted one visitor about Meadow Lake Campground, which operates from July through September. Many campgrounds in higher elevations remain snow-covered until late spring, with most facilities opening between May and October. Timber Creek Campground typically operates from mid-May through mid-October, while some lower elevation sites like Leadore City Park and dispersed areas along creek beds remain accessible year-round. Cell service is limited throughout the region, particularly at more remote campgrounds like Big Eightmile Campground and Trailhead, where high-clearance vehicles are recommended for access.

Riverside camping represents a common feature among highly-rated sites near Leadore. Several campgrounds provide direct access to creeks and streams, with Timber Creek Campground receiving particular praise for its dual-stream setting. According to one camper, "This campground has 2 streams running on both sides of it so most camp spots have access right into the water." Amenities vary considerably across the region, with developed sites like Meadow Lake offering drinking water and vault toilets, while more primitive locations provide only basic fire rings. Visitors frequently mention the area's solitude and mountain views as highlights, with many campgrounds remaining uncrowded even during peak summer months. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound throughout the region, with deer commonly sighted near camping areas and fishing available in nearby streams and reservoirs.

    Morgan Bar Campground

    Comfortable

Good for an overnight stay. Cattle farms nearby but not a bother. Small campground that is quiet with camp host on site. Camp host dog wanders but is friendly. Only 2 sites with direct river access, a few adjacent, and a few more on a turnaround. Verizon signal very strong, vault toilets were clean and had TP. No hookups. $15/nt. The sign says there is a 50% discount for interagency passes (including military) but we did not get that option when using scan & pay. Can use the envelopes to pay the discounted rate directly if you have cash I guess.

    Morgan Bar Campground

    Nice small campground

It’s a nice quiet camp close to town on the river. It is not $5, it is $15 a night. Which is more - but 1/2 off for old farts like me.

Cactus River Ranch RV & Campground

    Here overnight

Beautiful river - the non service site is great- easy back in with 24 ft TT. Wouldn’t choose service sites. Too close together and hard right angles.

They have a covered concrete pad that you pull up next to and enjoy the view of the water at the dam.

    Deer Gulch

    Great spot! Easy access

Just off the main highway, and only a narrow bridge as an obstacle. There is currently a 30’ish foot big fifth wheel here, so I guess it can handle the weight. Just watch your sides if you are pulling a camper.

Plenty of room for Rv’s and tents. Lots of open space next to the river. There are some shaded spots, and plenty of unshaded in case you have Starlink. There are even some metal campfire rings.

Easy river access, too! Note that you can turn right or left once across the bridge. Fewer people to the left.

Salmon Creek Camp on Loening Road

Does not appear to be easily accessible

The first bride is closed, and the second bridge is pretty narrow. I have a 16 foot camper, and didn’t feel comfortable crossing it. I couldn’t see anything across the river that looked like a good candidate for camping, other than a very overgrown depression with some sort of signage. It appeared to be right where the maps were trying to take me.

Hope someone else can visit it and shed some light, but it’s a no go for me!

Hot in the summer. There are some higher elevation spots a good ways down the highway.

Deer Gulch 20 minutes further down is decent, but still hot. Plenty of open space, though… and not too terrible of a bridge to cross. I saw a 30’ish foot fifth wheel that made it across… so… Deer Gulch spot is good.

    Beaverhead Campground

    Great free camping spot!

There was so much room for tents, rigs, cars, and boat trailers. Dog friendly, clean pit toilets, manual water pump, and beautiful sunrise/sunset over the lake. Only a few people stopped for a Saturday evening which was surprising. Only downside is hearing semis or loud vehicles stop at the rest lot right next to the camp.
