Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area

Very quiet, very pretty, several issues.

Asked for a lake view cabin. We were the only ones here since it was a weekday after labor day so all cabins were open. I go to check in and it's a long sidewalk between narrow rails. Not at all easy if you are disabled and with my COPD, I had to stop several times.

I get cabin 6. If you go here DO NOT GET CABIN 6. It's the only one you can't park in front of as it's down the side of a hill. You must traverse several levels of steps down a steep grade. The office hours are over by now so I hauled what we needed down.

The lake view was somewhere past the forest so I'll take their word on that.

The refrigerator was filthy and we had no hot water. Since it was after hours all we could do is clean the fridge, make supper and wait till 9 in the morning to call maintenance.

Maintenance arrives and determine the elements are bad. At about 10:30am they started working. Spent most of our only full day watching them fix the water heater. The maintenance guys were very nice but I'm not leaving my stuff with strangers.

So basically, I spent $200 to sit on a deck with acorns falling on us or on the world's most uncomfortable couch as they worked on getting me hot water. Early morning fishing was shot.

They did say we could now switch cabins but I would need to move our stuff back up Mt Fk-That just to move it again into the new cabin, then back out again tomorrow.

It is a lovely area and the people are friendly but they need to do better. Also, warn people that cabin 6 is more cliff side than lake side.

My family used to stay here every year. Owners are just not very friendly. You get told 2 different prices over the phone compared to when you get there. Overall is a nice camp ground pretty quiet. Pretty river.

        Dirty cabins and rude staff!

The cabin was disgusting 🤢 bugs crawling in the fridge, door was held together with a wire hanger. Rudest staff I've ever encountered.

        Overall quite and clean

We called because we were just on the road and I could hear the lady in the background yelling at the camp host I was talking with. She was being very rude. We reserved a site and only gave us 2 options. Web said 20.00 to camp FHU. They also charge 10.00 a person so plan on spending around $50.00 a night. Doubt we will be back. Just not worth that.

        Spacious sites and friendly staff

Spacious and mostly level sites, which is outstanding as this park is on face of a hill. We stayed in march so leaves are off the trees and could hear road noise. Very nice stay.

        Mid October Ozarks fall beauty

The campground is set up for all varieties of camping. My 35 ft. Fifth wheel is about max length to make the campground roads. Otherwise, All pads are level asphalt so minimal pad shimming necessary. Park staff and hosts on hand, so the park is extremely clean with a wholesome atmosphere. The Shower and restroom facilities well kept. There is quality shade if summer camping.

        Camp Takimina

Beautiful quiet campground in Columbia MO!

We stayed at Camp Takimina on our first shakedown trip with our Popup camper.  It was amazing.  It was about 5-10 minutes from I-70, super easy to get to. The camp was quiet, private, and peaceful.  There are no hookups, but water was right next to us near the parking lot, and the picnic tables near the lodge were shaded most of the day.  Portapotties were clean and well stocked.  We brought our dog and two children and the had an absolutely fabulous time!  We hiked a lot in the woods, played in the creek, and had plenty of time and space to figure out our new to us popup camper.  There aren't actual spots for to park in, it is just a big gravel lot with a couple designated areas for campers if the lot is full (it wasn't full at all).  We reserved Arrow Hill also, which is a huge site right next to the parking lot, so we had a campfire ring to cook on.  Most of the firepits have benches that surround them, which was very handy not to have to move chairs around all the time.  The tent sites were huge- easily would fit multiple tents at each site, and we will absolutely be back to tent camp, and with the popup too!

They’re trying but a bit to go

Campground is on a short gravel road and sites are gravel. Sites are pretty level and WiFi is good. Contactless checkin is a bit confusing from map provided. There are a lot of long term users. Bathhouses are pretty new and adequate but a pretty long walk from the transit sites. I don’t think the baths are cleaned daily.

Favorite Campground @ Lake of the Ozarks

It’s my favorite place to stay at the lake of the ozarks! I love the atmosphere and friendly staff and other campers. Stayed here with other friends and families several times. Always clean and cared for. Nice outdoor pool! Kids love the mini golf, shuffleboard, and basketball. Huge private lake great for fishing and watching duck families swim by and come up to you on the grass! And I always enjoy the evenings sitting by the campfire making memories with everyone.

        Linn Creek Koa

        Southern Discomfort

Lynn Creek KOA is a mediocre resort. The pool and the bathroom facilities are pros, and the sites have trees for added shade.

But the cons outweigh those pros, as the sites are all gravel with very little grass, deferred maintenance is an issue for electric & water outlets, the noise from the freeway running in front of the resort is unbearable at all hours, and the flies are biting nonstop.

        Good stopover site

This was a good stopover site on our journey. The campground reps were kind and great to work with. The registration online was seamless. We submitted an inquiry online, they replied within a day with the invoice to confirm our site and sent us confirmation details via email. Checkin was simple. The lots felt a bit tight but no big deal since it was just a stopover. It appeared there may be permanent residents who stay so if you’re looking for that, it might be an option based on the setups and work trucks parked at a few. Everyone was friendly, quiet and seemed to keep to themselves. Nice pond onsite that you can fish. We didn’t explore the grounds much but apparently we could’ve walked and seen the horses by the resort. The only thing I didn’t love was the gravel road all the way in. Our truck and camper was covered with gravel dust. So if you had anything exposed, it’ll get a bit dusty. But again overall a nice stopover and the employees were great to work with.

        Worst. Time. Ever.

Literally, the worst customer service I've ever had from an actual owner of an establishment. After finally coming to an agreement(which I wasn't even able to even get a response until I had to publicly complain) to use tickets from last year for this current year, I was told not to come THE DAY BEFORE I planned to come to the event even though I was in a full emailed conversation about the dates and agreement confirmation a week and a half before. My friends and I had to make last-minute elsewhere and were very unhappy about it. I've never had such an inconsiderate, unprofessional conversation with any business.

Beautiful campground, though Full hookup sites are on an unappealing parking lot. Sites with electric and water only are in nice oak woods overlooking Lake of the Ozarks. (Our site # J has a concrete stairway with 150 steps down to the water.) Tent sites are right on the water, with spectacular views. You can launch your own kayak or rent a motor boat to explore this gigantic lake. Free laundry facilities. Lean restrooms with nice shower. Very relaxed reservation procedure. We called and were told to just show up. They would hold a spot for us. It worked out fine.

        Great scenery !

        Great scenery!

We got to stay along the river looking down on the banks and across from the boiling spring pouring into the river from below. We watch kayakers and canoers flock to the spring to tempt and dare one another to feel the icy cold fill the river.

We had great neighbors and boy scouts galore. Everyone seem to have a good time.

If you can bare one community shower and few toilet facilities with running water, then you will like the grounds.

For a pair of half century old empty nesters, we did all right for 2 nights and no shower.

In all, what really made our high appraisal was the setting and wonderful vistas.

        Great for just popping through.

Great place for a place to stay near the lake of the ozarks attractions. Super close to big surf and not a bad drive from all the lake has to offer. But not a favorite for a trip focused more on hanging out at the camp site. Very hilly (though grade on the site wasn’t bad at all), pull through sites make getting in easy with larger rigs but all roads through are gravel and rutted so not the easiest. Sites close together without much in between. Nice large trees would offer some summer shade but still not much separation between sites. Water and electric at site. Small “dog park” (fenced in area) great for smaller dogs to run off leash and pretty large kid okay ground too. Overall we will stay here again but think of it more as bringing our own hotel to the lake rather than coming to enjoy the campground.
