At Bogue Chitto State Park, visitors will experience a diversity of natural habitats on one of the most dynamic and scenic river systems in Louisiana. The 1,786-acre site includes small streams, cypress-tupelo swamps, a hardwood forest, upland forests and a rolling landscape. 5 Upland cabins overlooking a 90 foot Bluff, RV camping, Conference Center, Group Camp, Picnic Pavilions, Canoe Launch, Amphitheater, Water Playground, Over 6 Miles of Hiking Trails, Access to the Bogue Chitto River, Interpretive area, Fishing Lakes. Water Playground - Louisiana State Parks' water playgrounds operate Tuesdays through Sundays, April 1 through October 31, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; the facilities will be closed on Mondays for cleaning and maintenance. Please contact the park directly, to confirm that the playground is open or for additional information. Overnight visitors will find accommodations from tent camping (complete with glamping sites) to RV camping to cabins overlooking the bluffs. For larger groups and family reunions, the park offers a group camp and a conference room. Bring your mountain bike and explore the newly opened 14-miles of single track trails for bikers of all skill levels. Fricke's Cave, which – despite its name – resembles more of a gorge, possesses delicate sandstone spires created when water erodes the surface underneath pebbles. The pebbles remain perched atop the spires, while over time water splashes on the sandstone surface, forming the two-foot-tall fingers of sandstone that shoot up from the now-lowered surface. Boardwalks have been built so that visitors can admire the sandstone creations from afar, as the formations are too delicate to allow visitors to walk among them. Fourteen miles of equestrian trails wind through some of the most interesting topography of southern Louisiana, with the trailhead located near Fricke's Cave. A day trip to Bogue Chitto State Park will be a full one, with a river perfect for canoeing or kayaking, 11 lakes stocked with a variety of freshwater fish, a water playground, numerous picnic pavilions and an outdoor classroom.

          Peaceful Evening in the Trees

All campsites had a picnic table, fire ring and a grill which were typical of these free NPS campsites. The bathroom facilities were clean with running non-potable water. All of the fire rings and grills were rusty and some of the wooden picnic tables were falling apart but we were one of a few campers this early in the season, so hopefully they'll be attended to before the summer rush. We picked a pull-thru site and lit a fire in the ring and used our own camp chairs and table for a lovely star filled night.

          Loved it!

This was our first time camping using our popup. We set it up with ease and enjoyed a weekend vacation. It was my husband’s first time ever camping. We were both astonished with the vacation feel of camping. We had a great time and our fur babies have slept the past two days since we’ve been back. They played so hard and we hiked a lot! The only negative side was a street light righttttt above us, all in all we loved it and can’t wait to go back.

          Perfect Overnight

This campground is the perfect overnight spot; there are some hiking trails & historic sites to visit but, otherwise, it’s just a good spot to pull off the parkway and recharge. There are probably 20-25 sites, most if not all ate large enough for RVs or pull-behind rigs. Above ground fire pits, BBQ grills and picnic tables at most sites, off of the paved parking area(s). The bathroom(s) aren’t great, but they work! 1 bar Verizon, not enough to load any GPS or internet but you can squeeze a message out.

          Peaceful retreat

My husband and I spent three nights here. It was a peaceful stay with a paved walking track and boat ramp. I would stay here again. They were working on improvements and could very well become a four star getaway with a little work. Trash, Bathrooms and bathhouse on-site.

Nice primitive grounds with pull-through and back-in options. Gave a 1 in service because it is a first come first serve. It is a terrific spot to stop and sleep. We camped at Natchez Trace Parkway- Rocky Springs in a Fifth Wheel. Didnt get a chance to take photos, we arrived at dark and left early morning.

          Wonderful Place!

What an incredible place! We enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. The lagoon was cool and refreshing, the deer came right to our campsite, the ducks and birds and squirrels all hung out too! Beautiful scenery and very clean. We stayed in BL6 ( perfect spot ) Not a great signal for internet but it didn’t matter much to me. Only issue we had was that the General store & cafe were not open during the week and we were not aware of that until we got settled and walked over to it. But other than that FANTASTIC!

          Not a bad stay.

Overall the stay wasn’t bad. The staff was pleasant and the area and lake is very nice. The restrooms were awful and it looks like the maintenance crew don’t check them regularly. The campsite is getting a make over in September so this may account for the apathy towards these facilities. No camp store but I was told this is coming next year.

Small Diamond in the Rough Campground

We hit the jackpot with this small diamond in the rough campground right outside of Jackson. If you find yourself passing through Jackson, this is an excellent place to stop. This resort is beautiful and peaceful with the friendliness people around. The owner greets every visitor personally, showing you to your site, and making sure you have everything you need for the best stay possible. I can’t say enough about their hospitality. My only regret is not being able to stay longer! This was our second stop on our roadtrip from Dallas to Disney. Read the entire story at ChampagneOnDeck.com

          Beautiful property but….

It’s a pity the place is so dirty, especially the bathhouse.

It’s a pity because the property itself is of stunning beauty…

There is lots to love; bbq pits, fire places, all kind of canoe activities, a river with fresh and nice water… it’s mush and green. Bring repellent!

Rocky Springs Campground, Milepost 54.8 — Natchez Trace Parkway

Beautiful place on the Natchez Trace

This is a great campground right off the Natchez Trace. I was able to get the last spot there. After my set up I went for a walk up to the old church and remains of the town of Rocky Springs. Being a Nevada Barr fan I was delighted to see the cemetery she mentioned in one of her books “Deep South”. I had planning on staying two nights but had trouble with my refrigerator so I was disappointed that I had to leave the next day. Will definitely be back when I am in the area. I will say this is a rustic campground. There are two bathroom facilities and the third has been boarded up for years. Have your fresh water tank full when you arrive. There is no water available other than the sinks and flush toilets in the bathrooms. No shower facilities. Not an issue for me as I travel in a small motorhome. And don’t show up with a full tank of grey and black water because there isn’t a dump station. I didn’t get to hike the hiking trails. I did walk down to the water that is behind the amphitheater and it was pretty. Very quiet and peaceful place.

          Beautiful, Rustic, Snakes!

If you are afraid of snakes, please keep your eyes open! But don't let that stop you, this is a beautiful quiet campground! We stayed 2 nights in site 40, on the lake; water and electricity but no sewer. Concrete pad, needed 1 block to level. Lake view is a little obstructed from the site we stayed at, but will definitely go back! Lots of trees and privacy, a lake, and walking trails. Cabins, showers are both a little outdated, but clean. Well a couple of spider webs shouldn't discourage you...
