Slidell RV campgrounds and nearby camping options dot the wetland areas between Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi Sound. Summer temperatures average 90°F with high humidity, while winter lows rarely drop below 40°F. Camping conditions typically remain moderate year-round, though afternoon thunderstorms occur frequently from June through September. Water management remains a key consideration at most campsites due to the low-lying terrain.
What to do
Fishing access: Lake Pontchartrain: Whites Bayou RV Park offers direct water access. "Friendly, kind and helpful owners offer a kid's playground, swimming pool and large RV campsites. Full hookups at most sites. Tent camping accommodated as well," notes Chuck H.
Beach exploration: 25 min drive to Gulf Coast: Silver Slipper Beachfront RV Park provides beachfront sites. "The beach is across the street and very nice. Casino is a very short drive. We only used it for a one night stop," explains Bill B.
Local brewery tours: 4 miles from downtown: Abita Springs RV Resort sits close to Abita Brewery. "Visit the nearby abita springs cafe for great breakfasts and of course the brewery for good beer. Cute little town area and farmers market very close," recommends Alanna R.
What campers like
Pool facilities: Seasonal availability: Reunion Lake RV Resort maintains multiple swimming options. "Nice resort offering lots of amenities. All the sites are concrete pad which makes its very hot in summer and feels sorta like a parking lot at times," notes Diane H.
Private security: 24-hour monitoring: French Quarter RV Resort offers secured camping. "Despite being just a stone's throw from the historic famed district that you've come here to revel in and perhaps catch some beads here in NoLa, French Quarter RV Resort is a small slice of respite in an otherwise busy, traffic-jammed section of the Crescent City," writes Stuart K. who adds, "you'll be able to depart 3-lane highway chaos and shoulder-to-shoulder dwellings and enter a fortified encased stone wall fortress complete with a key-coded security entrance that provides both increased privacy as well as a solid measure of 24/7 security."
Water recreation: Seasonal swimming: Lake LaCroix RV Resort provides clear water swimming. "The lake water is crystal clear with plenty of fish. Very peaceful here! We spent time at the natural playground, swimming in the beautiful pool, fishing and bicycling," shares Tiffany M.
What you should know
Water quality variations: Some parks report issues with water taste and pressure. At Pinecrest RV Park, one camper noted "The water was soft & had a strange taste when used for ice tea & coffee."
Site levelness: Check site conditions before booking. "Pretty basic but well kept. Amenities are limited but good for a stop over to visit the area. Easy access to New Orleans, about 30 minutes," states Lenny M. about Pinecrest RV Park.
Cell service coverage: Service strength varies by provider. Jude Travel Park reports solid connectivity. "We had a nice time, it was very secure here. The operators offer a shuttle several times a day for a small fee per person, to the French Quarter," mentions Jon F.
Tips for camping with families
Safety considerations: Check neighborhood: Research location safety ratings before booking. "Kinda dodgy part of town. Hard to get to, we had to do a u turn to get there off I-10. Tight turn to get into the park," Michelle M. warns about Jude Travel Park.
Kid-friendly amenities: Water activities: Military Park New Orleans Joint Reserve Base provides spacious sites, though with one caution: "Great location, clean sites and facilities, well spaced between sites. $30 a night. Quite part of base. *There are gators in the water filled ditch along the sites," mentions Chris L.
Playground access: Multiple parks: Several RV campgrounds Slidell Louisiana and nearby areas feature playgrounds. At Bay St. Louis RV Park, a camper noted, "We stopped here for an overnight on our way to Florida. It is a Passport America park so we used our discount. The owner was super helpful and very nice."
Tips from RVers
Site selection strategy: Choose sites based on specific needs. At French Quarter RV Resort, "IMHO the best sites are actually the standard sites that are noted as 'budget friendly' are located closest to Interstate 10, which seems like an odd recommendation, but given that this busy highway is a good 200 feat above you, there's really no escaping the noise it imparts, but at least you won't see it or have to pay more," advises Stuart K.
Gate access information: Verify entry requirements and timing. "The blades that allow you to get in the park are extremely sharp. We witnessed a class C get their trim ripped off trying to get out of the park," cautions one RVer about a Slidell area campground.
Seasonal booking patterns: Reunion Lake experiences occupancy shifts. "We stayed the month of March and the park was about half full during the week with seasonal campers but filled to capacity over the weekends," observes Nancy W.
