No service

Felt nice to spend a weekend without cell service about an hour away from home. Forgot to take my usual photos and video of the site all set up but had a few random to share. Nice campground. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. There are flush toilets and showers and the office has a store for any last minute needs.

Beautiful, LARGE State Park

The park is VERY LARGE, 33,000 acres! The prairie was beautiful this fall with all the native grasses and plants.

There is a flat, brand new 5 mile paved bicycle path that goes from the campground to the beach. Many hiking trails! The trails along the river are beautiful in October.

The campgrounds, trails, and bathrooms are all well maintained. The men’s bathroom/showers were designed and built well and is very clean. Bath building has a large “family/handicap” bathroom shower room.

MANY BLACK Squirrels in the park!

Super open and on top of one another. Very little shade.

Would not go back here. The sites are only shaped and hard to place a tent in bc of shape and no designated site edges. There is no shade in most sites and was very hot in a tent. Everyone is right on top of one another and bc of no site borders was quite loud. The beach is on the river and is very slimy bc of years of artificial beach making. Some of the other parts of the river are nicer and enjoyable. This would make a nice day trip but not great for an extended weekend.

Open Field Type Camping

This campground is 2 of 3 at St. Croix State Park. This campground has a handful of electric sites and a modern restroom and shower. The sites here are very open and there is little trees or shrubs. Some of the campsite around the very outer edge have some coverage, which is helpful in the hot summer sun.

Ready for Round Two

Reserved this site through the Minnesota dnr state park phone line, having been turned away from full camp grounds by two other state parks. Not being familiar with the place, I didn't know the differences between sites, and got placed in site 80, which was right by the road and rather exposed, would try for another, more secluded spot next time. The campground was busy, and full of activity, but that was not a problem. Only made it on one hike because I was not able to get a spot for a second night. Beautiful area, rich history. Saw some great birds and checked 3 off my life list! It was a great for a trial run and I am looking forward to going back.
